What an honor to see one of the greatest actors in history in the making!! Sir Anthony Hopkins, a VERY YOUNG ONE to say the least!! I first met him as an older much more grey man in blockbusters like "Silence of the Lambs" , "Hannibal the Cannibal " and other unforgettable movies! He surely is one of the greatest out there!! But even in this movie where he plays the hero for once, at this young age, those droopy ice blue eyes and thin lips are unmistakable!! Thanks for a great movie guys!!

Spot the scenes 'stolen' for Bond and visa versa. eg. Pressure suit fight [ For Your Eyes Only ] and boat attack on bad guy's lair [ from the short Bond story 'Risico' - then incorporated into the film 'For Your Eyes Only.'] Crossbow scene - Long table, ala Stromberg's death in 'Spy.' Plus the use of Bond stuntmen Bob Simmons [ asleep / whiskey ] and George Leech [ cemetary fight ] STILL more entertaining than that same years 'Diamond are Forever,' though.

I read all Alistair McLean books at age 13 to 15 during 1969-72. He created a world in my mind that still exist today. He wrote on other book under the name Ian Stuart as well, Satan bug. The COVID pandemic reminded me somewhat of that book. If authors like that was still around, children would read a lot more.
@cattymajiv5 ай бұрын
Their books ARE still around! And many great newer ones as well! Actually it's entirely the parents' influence, or lack of it, that dictates whether a child will love to read, and how much they do it. There are already myriads of fantastic writers and books, but if parents don't make the effort during the very young most formative years, that love of reading will never developed. My husband was a reasonably intelligent person, but he hadn't been exposed enough to developed that love, the way that I was, so he was never a big reader, where I'm a compulsive reader and just can't stop. I could read a dictionary for hours, and have done so many times. The existence in the home of a large bookshelf with a variety of wonderful books of all types is crucial, and access to the internet is not a substitute for it. Of course that's a great thing that should also be used by parents to direct the love of reading, but by itself it would never replace the physical existence of hard copy books, in the early years. The love of reading is SUCH an important skill and such a wonderful thing to have that I consider it to be severe neglect to NOT teach children to love it! But then, those who didn't have what my parents gave me wouldn't know how to pass it down. I was very VERY lucky that I had a dad whose mother was a school teacher. As austere as she was, she did pass on to my dad the ways to get two small children interested, and to consider books the greatest treasure on earth.

One of the first Alistair Maclean books that I read, from late evening to late morning. ( it was the school holidays ). And I was hooked. Reading a book is always better, but I must admit I enjoyed watching this movie. To tell the truth, I liked watching all Alistair Maclean's novels that were made into movies. I think the reason they are good is because they were made by the Brits. Geoffrey Jenkins, a South African, is also one of my favorite novelist.

The 'girls' are nice 'eye candy' but the acting not quite up to their looks, but never mind....:) Just to be a bit picky, but the first fight on board the ship with the 'bald' baddie, I could see his 'bald' scalp moving and crinkling on top of his head, probably covering a full head of hair....:) Checking your channel, you seem to have a range of films, not checked any, but I suspect the quality will be just as good as this one, so have subscribed..

A good movie. Thanks! It is great quality ! Some excellent on-location work. Two years after the film was made Jack Hawkins passed away at aged 62. He played Sir Anthony Skouras in this movie. He was a pack a day chain smoker. Charles Gray, who is uncredited, dubbed the voice of Jack Hawkins for this film. Jack Hawkins larynx had been removed when the actor was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1966.

Great film, watched it many times, good story, gritty and witty at the same time. Only just noticed that the head quarters where the helicopter lands at 5.00 mins, is the same location as used in From Russia with Love - another great film, one of my favourites.

@@stevengrotte2987 Did you notice a drop off in quality sometime around the mid-1970s? I’ve read roughly the first half of his output and have read on a couple occasions how Maclean’s writing quality falls into a precipitous decline owing to his unfortunate period of alcoholism starting about that time.

I haven't seen the earliest Bond movies but weren't they more like this? with the witty almost hard-to-follow dialogue exchanges, modest stunts, and nothing particularly over the top. If not, then this one set a bit of a standard for its time, a standard that has indeed aged very well as the earlier comment noted. .

The earliest Bond film was Dr No. I wouldn't describe it as having " modest stunts " or " not particularly over the top "..?!?

I remember reading the book as a kid, I don't really remember the plot at all, but I remember the opening of the book with the main character staring down at the ".44 caliber peacemaker" as the book goes on to explain how terrifying that would be ... glad they left that scene in there!

"..because the Colt was aimed at my right thigh" (Then the paragraph changes and McLean torments us with More info about the Colt.) "Another thing about Colt. It’s really hard for me to take seriously Sir Anthony Hopkins in the role of dashing action hero. Likewise Corin Redgrave, who brilliantly played the foppish & vain Sir Walter Elliot in Persuasion, as his sidekick. I’m going to keep watching though. It’s such a fun surprise.
