People have a tendency to misinterpret things because they don't pay attention to the relevant details and thus file things in buckets they don't belong in. Anna could talk her face off and there would still be people misunderstanding her, because communication is a two-way street regardless of what lazy people like to pretend when trying to blame others for their own shortcomings

What I did is I kept the beautiful side of my personality, but I rounded it off with being softer, being kinder, less or no swearing, eating healthier, exercising, taking care of my hair, skin and nails, dress more modest and more expensive good quality clothes, remembering less is more, less makeup and jewelry, studying hard, working hard, sleeping early to be able to wake up earlier and start my day right, having amazing posture 😊 but its all still ME..

The truth is... if you’re drawn to this channel, you’re probably above average in terms of elegance. All the tips you give us are probably intuitive to most of us but you say it with so much grace and elegance that it motivates us to be more mindful of the little details that make us classy. I’ve forwarded a few of your videos to some friends and they just didn’t resonate (it’s obvious why). Thanks for all you do Anna! It makes me want to be better every day. 💖

@LaLabutterfly
@LaLabutterfly 4 жыл бұрын
Pause, think and ground yourself. In addition, people who’re often trying to rattle you don’t know what to do when you don’t give them “ammo” or are looking for a reaction. Think Miranda (from The Devil wears Prada). Edit: Being assertive is something you learn as a child ie your parents teaching you about boundaries and you being allowed the space to express yourself and discovering your own boundaries. Being unnecessarily aggressive is just another form of a deep seated insecurity and the inability to express yourself outside of anger.

Good advice from all the comments. Mine has always been simpler. 'You do not have to show up for every fight you are invited to'. Genuinely ask yourself if some behaviours are worth reacting to. In the heat of the moment, it's easy to think that it needs 'strong action' when actually walking away is exactly the right response

My late grandmother was also an elegant lady. I love wearing broche because of her because i am trying to imitate her look. During her 60's she would still wore 5-7 centimeter high heels. My grandma is the same! But her story is a bit sad. She'd always wear heels out, dress with the latest fashion, she was always so elegant. But when she got a bit older and couldn't walk in heels she shut herself inside the house and never came out again... She doesn't want the world to see her in any less of a way. My grandpa's death also made her close into herself even more. I'm still trying to find ways to get her out of the house..

I got employed by a high end department store when I was 16 and after university I got employed as a teacher in a wealthy private school. I’ve always been inspired by elegance, have followed sophistication and have also worked very hard which is probably why I ended up in these places. I’m not married to a rich man because I wasn’t interested in rich men when I was dating - I actually refused to date them - but my husband is well educated and articulate which is all I’ve ever wanted in a man. His good looks are a bonus. I came from a lower socioeconomic background where my wonderful father couldn’t work due to chronic illness and my mother did what she could to make ends meet. My parents taught me to think laterally and to follow people who were more skilled and respectable rather than follow the herd and be mediocre. I think your videos are invaluable parenting tools for bringing up girls. I don’t have a daughter but I want my son to be a dignified man who will hopefully marry an elegant lady one day. Thank you!💖

I think as long as we’re not requesting intrusion into her private life (lunch w/ friends, or seeing a house tour, etc) that’d be ok. Anna has to walk a fine line between keeping her personal life personal and divulging her background, friends, etc via Q& A videos.

I’ve always enjoyed books and movies about princesses, high court, and aristocracy in general. It’s an interesting culture/history, especially as an American... particularly a Black American- the contrast is fascinating! I’m also curious about the progression and evolution of this demographic in modern times. Where did these people go? I’ve learned that many are hiding in plain sight, and have quite broad associations! Growing up in Florida, and having lived in NYC, with career experience in the hospitality industry, I’ve had the opportunity to observe affluent individuals and families in both casual and formal settings when they are “on” socializing with networking intentions. I can typically tell the difference between someone who is pretending, and someone who genuinely has class. For this reason, it is appealing to me as a young low-income individual from a lower middle-class family, to learn and apply the nuanced behavior that elevates ones persona. Just because I don’t come from these circles doesn’t mean I don’t aspire to enter them one day. Also, just because I came from a modest background doesn’t mean I have to settle there. I think, any woman would be wise to continue elevating her financial status, education, and networking circles- not only for personal benefit, but also for the security of her future! Being upwardly mobile requires a curated skillset I am all too happy to obtain. These videos offer valuable concepts to consider, and a discreet way to discuss topics that might otherwise be taboo in a social setting.

I like your concept except for one thing: a 'low' setting doesn't mean low individuals. Living a life in the modesty of a 'low level' it's perfectly good if you have dignity and pride. It's you way of living that put value in you, not how or where you live. I can find gems of people withing poor families and scums within high society. And, from my experience only, high society people know more of what life is but less of who they are, they're interesting and funny when they talk about what they've done or teach you about what they're interested in, but boring when they have to talk just about themselves, because they don't usually know their bare self. I think it's a win win situation if one is able to take the best from the base of the pyramid as from the top of it. I personally value a lot when someone is low class and choose to live a good life in it, without big dreams beside the one to be a better person for himself and his family. For me it's reassuring to have friends like them, they do not want anything, they do not take, only give, and the most precious thing they give you are lessons. :)

When I first saw the School of Affluence I was very curios to see how are you teaching, for example, how to step out of a car?, how to sit?, etc. because that was my experience. Dear Anna I congratulate you for spearheading this transformation you have added contemporary skills and reaching women who otherwise would not have the opportunity to learn this kind of advice. To me being elegant is like knowing several languages, it is knowing how to behave in different scenarios. Today we need skills like networking, how to make a good impression on a business meeting. You offer tools for personal improvement if one wants to use your advice to look for a husband, good. If one wants to be a power house your advice is also on point. I would like to see videos about networking and how to define your personal style. BTW I love your videos. Congratulations!!

True, and that's precisely why elegance, good manners, a kind heart and a sharp mind are way more valuable than phisical beauty, that depletes itself over time. A lot of what you teach has resonated with me, however, I admit I was one of your subscribers who was confused and thought that I had to stop being who I am in exchange for etiquette. LOL! I am naturally a happy and expressive person and when I watched some of the videos what came to mind was that I will never be "poised" enough. LOL! I am laughing because now I understand your stance on what Elegance is. Thanks again, Anna, and I would enjoy more sit-down videos in the future along with your teaching videos. ~Annie

What a wonderful conversation to have and explore. Thank you. My grandparents were from modest mid-west American backgrounds. No where near “high society”. But eventually people from high society will find you no matter your background if you display elegance and good character. To meet elegance is synonymous with self awareness. Choosing to behave in an elegant way can be anyone’s choice and it elevates yourself and people around you. Elegance is to behave admirably.

I appreciate this video so very much, because I try to incorporate your tips into my daily life and there were times I felt like oh boy I need to adjust because of the perfect picture of elegance. I'm happy to hear the goal is not to be perfect, but there is accommodation for your personal style. Eg. Eventhough you said when luxury handbags start to patina it is time to get rid of it, I actually like when the leather has a golden patina and I do prefer shorter trench coats at times, so the clarification is nice.

Thank you. Where we are with all the "sexy" emphasis in society, elegance is a necessity. Many don't understand it, because elegance has been far removed over the last decades. So, as the pendulum swings back to it, the understanding of it may take some time. I agree that elegance is a mind set and is exemplified in not so much what we do but how we think. Realizing that "sexiness" is boring and mainstream. Also elegance is exemplified in the "classic women." I used to do color and personality analysis and we discussed 4 fashion types: Natural, classic, dramatic and gamine. I went to a grooming school long ago and we discussed more options. So, elegance can also be exemplified with fashion personality type. The dramatic would have a tendency towards "boho" and excess. So this person would need a way to express their personality while remaining elegant. The same with the other personality types. I say continue with elegance and some of the misunderstanding with iron out as our society begins to understand it more.

No one's perfect, but you're pretty close! Your channel is more than a school of affluence. It's a school of opportunity. You give us the opportunity to give ourselves a total make over. You're telling us, no matter what our past or present situation is, we can change if we want to. Not just change our looks - change our entire persona. That's a meaningful goal! If people get confused, you owe it to yourself to sit down and chat with us to clarify. It's good to ask, "What to you ladies want?" but it's also important to ask, "What would I like to say?" That's part of elegance. There is no need for us to be misunderstood. We all have voices. You are teaching us to use our voices in a friendly, non-threatening, articulate way. Bravo!

There are always going to be people who hate just to hate but just know you are helping people better their lives and that is a noble calling. I appreciate you and your channel. ❤️❤️❤️

Anna, I loved this video and it gave me a clearer look at you on a personal level. I used to think of you as someone who's strict or someone who'd say "you should be like this or like that" but that wasn't really the point you were trying to convey. I understood that people are different and I struggle being a perfectionist which isn't a good thing since it leads to frustration if perfectionism wasn't met. When I heard you say being picture perfect (not literally in pictures but also in our behavior) isn't really how we should be, my eyes were opened and people wouldn't want somebody who's manufactured. People want us to be ourselves like what you have always told us, your viewers. You're true to your words and slowly, I will learn from my mistakes and maybe become as elegant, real, and confident as you are.

this video really inspired me to think what is my take on the definition of the word "elegant"........so thank you for that. To me it is a lot about body language, being "healthy" confident (but more importantly being "at home" in you confident self)....so many people try to look confident but it just ends up looking very unnatural and awkward.... So my take is ..... learn how to look like that(of course you need to learn more than being confident) and than "fake it till you make it" .....one beatiful day you wake up and realise that this is your normal..... Thank you for this insight , this is truly inspiring.
