Just starting Spearfishing and what best to start with if not a small speargun and small fish in shallow waters.
When nearly everything goes wrong, When scouting a small "cave", ended up spotting a lionfish 3 to 4 meters inside, pitch black, fire coral on the top of the cave, my swimsuit string got tangled in a coral and got my swimsuit down to my knees, the damn lionfish after being shot instead of dropping down with the weight or the spear it swam towards me, once I grabbed the spear the friken lionfish pulled me down and the bouy line got tangled with my legs. Apart that it was perfect.
Rubber 19.5mm + 14mm, depth 10 to 12m (I think).

I've been freediving for years and I've also scuba a few caves. Just something about freediving a cave that sits uneasy with me. One thing that's kept me alive is trust yourself. If I don't have the confidence for certain dives that day I'll skip them. Worst thing is to be unconfident resulting in panic when something goes wrong.

I don't know why some people need an explanation of what went wrong. What you're doing is by far the most dangerous sport. My first time watching I thought your scuba gear was malfunctioning because of no bubbles. Then I realized you were free diving. Caves are a no-no especially when there's stuff to snag onto. This is worse than base jumping or spelunking because once your oxygen is depleted you're done.

Hello Brent, I guess there is some risk involved as there is in most activities I imagin. Just a small remark, I do not spear fish for sport, I do it to "clean" and eat. Also , yes my friend I have to agree, once my co2 tollerance is done there is no other option to breath. heheheh and if the surface is not close by I guess it will be hard to the the next day.

There is a cave here in Southern Indiana near the lake called lake Monroe that has a pond in it , the pond goes down about 10 feet then ther is a tunnel that leads into the lake. There is a rope attached at the edge of the pond in the cave going all the way to the lake floor. I always wondered who the first one to put the rope was. More than one person died trying to attempt it even with the rope. Scary stuff. I believe it's supposed to be closed now. Hi there, I give it a go to explain. So I guess I start from the basics. We as humans have to breath eventualy, so anything that can stop you from returing to the surface is a danger. In this particular video I am not really in "danger" because what happened was a couple of weird things and all happend all at once, so at the end its more comedic than dramatic. HOVEVER its not the lack of skill that kills the most. It is OVERCONFIDENCE that has the highest body count.

Hello Eric, thank you for this new comment, but as you surely noticed I wrote all this you are asking on the comment you replied to earlier. However, no worries, I will explain a litte better. To start when something goes wrong deos not mean that it is a 90 degrees or 180 degrees shift of activity (it can but not in this video case) So the to dive/ search/ spear/ secure/ swim up and secure the fish was indeed acomplished, the issue is "how it was accomplished" if there is a grade from 1 wost to 10 the best. In this video my performance was a negative 2. Negative 2. Mainly because when I noticed the faults I kept going (thats negative 1) and more stupid was that I found it funny and even cracked laughing (thats another negative 1) So total score for activity NEGATIVE 2. (hence that video was "when everything goes wrong") But no drama it was comic to say the least (only after the event and none was hurt) Hope that is clear buddy.

Hello there Markus. Yes, you might occasionaly find an octapus but not that often, its not the best habitat for an octapus. However, I have to agree with you that caves like this might be "spooky". Once in a similar cave I came face to face with a big ass cobia, which of course at the first contact I though it was a shark. However no drama here, at the end we ended up having cobia stakes on the grill.

NOTE TO ADD, **"its not the best habitat"** because in these type of caves there are bigger things that eats them. These type of caves are the home of groupers and giant groupers, these fish will suck octapus right off their hole with ease.

I understand that it may be frustrating for you that you are trying and failing to communicate your thoughts in English, but that is no excuse to take that out on other people who are making genuine questions. Check your ego please.

Free-diving into caverns is incredibly dangerous, even smaller ones like this. Going from open circuit to cave diving is like learning everything all over again, so even if you are very experienced free diving, caves & caverns are a different beast entirely. Try to avoid overhead environments please, if you were to go into a bigger cavern or cave you could get lost and drown, and then that cave will likely be shut down.

Hello Romen, yes my friend you sure must assume that someone that does this to eat would know that there are risks involved, correct? Anyway, dont worry about closinf the caves, we regularly find cadavers in caves or holes like this, none are closed, they are just marked with lines as you see in this video. Yes, soneone died in this one before.

Hello Liam, I appreciate hoesty and that you asked because you do not get it. So the to dive/ search/ spear/ secure/ swim up and secure the fish was indeed acomplished, the issue is "how it was accomplished" if there is a grade from 1 wost to 10 the best.

@@iamLiam053022 As for a more lenghty read (just in case you might be interested) this is what happened action by action. The biggest thing that happened was that I cracked laughing. You really should not exhale when freediving (even in the surface) You should always breath in first. HOWEVER, in order this is what happened in the video: 1) Decending from the wrost angle in relation of the "cave" 2) Did not look deeper before entering 3) After making contact I droped the light 4) Exit plan and marker line were not optimaly executed 5) Wardrobe malfunction 6) Laughing. AND IN SHORTER VERSION I dove from an angle to scare the fish rather than to pass unoticed did not check for anything that might go crazy once it smells blood (els, big ass groupers and occasionaly small black tip) after I droped the light and could not see when I recovered I noticed the fish with big needles was swimming thowards me so while taking action I got the marker line stuck in my snorkel after that the line got stuck on my hips but also my shorts got undone and it slided till my knees at the end I made my self in a position to black out because I exhaled (when I was laughing)

Hi 22, the issue witht hose lines are that they have a metal core. They hcanot be cut without a metal wire cutter (pliers r aything this kind), the issue withthese tls is that they have to be used with effort. In freediving you are already under effort by just being there so more effort will kill your dive time really fast. Practicaly I will end up diving 100 times to cut about 115lines. Whereas a scuba diver can stay there for 30min plus and but well over 400lines. BY THE WAY I did nto invent these umbers. I tried.

@@protogenoi1 if you watch the video you can literally see the light from the sun coming in behind you. If you need a definition explanation from expert divers go watch Dive Talks video on the true definition because there has been constant confusion in thes subject. A cave has absolutely zero sunlight from the surface and no direct way out from which you came. Not trying to be an ass but it's is not a cave by definition.

((mind you the flashlight was on all the time it just pointed down so maybe you are seeing the flashlight?)) AND, NO my friend you are not percepted as an ass, I am glad you exposed your knowledge about the subject. it was interesting to learn. I did not know that it has to be completely dark to be called a cave. Thank you.

@@protogenoi1 Techincally it is a topic up for debate and not many cave divers even share the same opinion. I came off wrong in the first place but basically if you watch that video in dry caving I think it's different terms used also. But in the cave dicing community tons of instructors say a cave is when you have zero light from the surface, don't have a direct way straight out from the cave, and if you can turn around and see daylight from the entrance from cavern to cave. Lots of people say a cave is when you enter the no light zone. That would be for dry caving as in diving you generally have to pass through a restriction that actually starts the cave from the cavern. I watched the video and I see that as you keep up on the fish your camera angles up away from the light on the floor. Yeah it got dark in there and didn't have light. I can see what everyone means but it doesn't qualify for the other rules. Again it's a topic mostly up for debate. I'm pretty sure people recognize caverns as underground corridors and caves as any entrance into it. So again I think that most expert cave divers refer to it as how their video explains. They are good guys and very down to earth.
