Being honest, I think the Endurance Layout is actually pretty good for testing. You have a nice and slow, tight, twisty, tricky section for the cars to be tested and the teams learn more about the car on these conditions. They can also adapt the knowledge to similar situations on other circuits.

I was thinking something similar by having one day during testing using the endurance layout and then two days of the normal circuit they’d be racing during the season. Also they could do the same for FP1 at certain tracks to entice fans into going to practice sessions and drivers would be able to get more insight into some of the handling/aerodynamic issues they may be having by using a slightly different layout with different turns and racing lines. Then go to the normal layout for FP2-FP3-qualifying-race. It’d be interesting to see how much faster F1 is than say LMP and GT3 cars

@@RomanBellicTaxi hahahaha nice, ok jokes aside i really share your point of view regarding the track layout and imo this would be the perfect track for testing, on the other side you cant compare the times from the official layout (races, qualis, FP etc) to the ones from testing if you do switch it up. But if they were consistent with the test layout they would have some comparision after two years already sooo...

Qualifying on the traditional layout, a sprint race on the oval, and then the Grand Prix on the outer circuit. There's a practice session on each layout, but you're only allowed to participate in one of them, so you have to choose wisely.

I tried driving the endurance layout in the Toyota hypercar in Ac. You are basically driving blind. It's so tight that you can't see the current and next corner.

interesting idea, what if the outer but also possibly the endurance layout, was used for testing as quality of overtaking opportunities are irrelevant and It would deprive teams of running data for the first race and imo less data always makes for a more interesting race.

I remember getting F1 2010 for the PS3 and hated the way I had to play this track first. I loved the outer loop layout in 2020 though, which as you say, uses some of the same track. The difference - on the endurance, turn 7/8 precedes many slow corners, so is of little consequence laptime-wise. On outer loop, a good exit from 7/8 makes all the difference on the run down to the final real corner.

Imagine if they used the endurance loop as a Joker lap like they use in Rallycross. One or two laps out of a race have to be done on the Joker (endurance track). This would allow cars stuck in a battle with a slower car to undercut and find some open track. Since everyone would have to take it at some point during a race it would add new dynamic and strategy to the race. It also would keep the race order in question since everyone would be mixed up depending if they have taken the Joker or not. It would make for some very interesting racing.

Agreed. In fact I dislike night races, they have no racing atmosphere at all. It was nice to see for the first couple seasons in Singapore but the novelty quickly wore off.

I don't get the argument about the endurance layout not providing enough overtaking zones. Where the layout diverges from the regular one, there's rarely any overtaking there anyway. The problem is probably that it increases the lap distance which reduces the laps & hence reduces the amount of time cars go past actual overtaking zones like turns 1 & 4.

Dude, you know that @3:30 turn 4-5-6 if u consider just the flow are the same corners of Bahrain short, where Russel overtook Bottas in 2020, most exciting overtake of that race for sure. The endurance layout was inappropriate in 2010, but in 2020 would have been as good as the outer layout, imo.

4-9 was where we saw russel overtake bottas. From there it’s a few slow corners and we’re back on the original track. I don’t think it’s terrible, but it doesn’t add much.

Perhaps the endurance layout would benefit Pre-season testing; a wider array for teams to test aerodynamic, braking & cooling properties, and perhaps making the actual Grand Prix less predictable. I dunno.

You know there is actually one thing i want f1 to try on the bahrain gp in the future and that is change the location of the start/finish line. You question where well how about the pit straight that is between turn 10 and 11 since that section is kinda made as a start/finish straight so why not like maybe in next year they should try it.

I always thought that for testing they should do 1 day on each layout, the high speed one, the other normal one, and the twisty endurance layout. Could have almost the best of all worlds. I mean cmon you have a track with such different contrasting layouts which is great for testing but they only use one. I get theres alot of logistics to it but i think it could be doable. Make testing a full week. Put a day in between each test day to change the track around

Curious to see how the following would work (thinking a little left field on this in all honesty): 1st 3 turns as usual, before using the connecting road between just after T3 & the traditional T10 (it's already there, so why not?). From there, run T10 to T5 in reverse, before using the outer loop the rest of the way around. I can certainly see the need for some reprofiling in order to get this to "work" as such, but what do I know? Just a schmuck throwing his 2 pence in here.

March in Bahrain is really all over the place in terms of temperatures during the day. It could be quite hot, like right now, it could be bearable or could be "cold". You never know

The normal layout is clearly the best one. Not a fan of either the endurance or the outer layouts. The latter being better than the former but still too simplistic imho. Nicely put video... maybe a new feature before each GP? I'm all for it.

I like the Endurance layout, it had technical corners and high speed straights. Sure, like you said, it caught out Chandhok and Hulkenberg, but that's what we want from grand prix circuits, something which catches out drivers if they make the smallest of mistakes. With cars of 2022, if regulation changes have worked and they are able to follow closely, then this layout will succeed. Cars can stay close in the twisty technical section, then slipstream down the straights.
