Problem with altering Yas Marina is all the buildings. Can't change many parts of it because it's routing around a building. For removing that chicane into the hairpin, that works except now you have a big braking zone with no run-off (a big building & grandstand is right there). You can however also move that hairpin up 20 meters (closer to where the chicane currently is) with a curved exit onto the long straight. YM also has a bunch of off-camber turns, if the track was re-profiled so that these turns banked in instead of banking out, following would be a lot easier.

Another change for the Catalunya circuit : Turn 1. Make it sharper to force a heavy breaking there.
@jonathanlund24564 жыл бұрын
Honestly, most of these redesigns aren't great. Starting with France, the issue there is really dirty air before the Mistral Straight. That problem should be sorted with the 2022 cars though, as the dirty air will be greatly reduced. Beausset has been ruined as well, being a brilliant fast corner where cars can go side-by-side if they get out of signes together. The final sector definitely has potential, but that chicane looks very awkward, and would just let gaps increase onto the pit straight. Sochi would not really work for the T7-T9 section, as the dirty air through 7 will kill any passing opportunity into 8. Turn 8 is also a nice corner, and the flow there is ruined. Bypassing the 15-16 chicane is a big improvement, and the last two corners are improved, although the space taken up might mean that it is impossible. The pit entry could be improved with this last corner, with potentially an 80kph speed limit, which decreases the pit delta. Abu Dhabi's chicane before the hairpin has to exist, for safety. If the drivers did just skip it, the FIA would DQ them, or just not sanction the event. The new section at the harbour could work, but the issue there would be runoff, as the facilities there would restrict what could be done. Spain's big issue is dirty air, so bypassing the chicane is a big no. There is a reason that F1 stopped using the chicane. The dirty air through the final corner would be a lot worse without the chicane, so passing would be a lot harder, as the following car can't carry enough speed to be close down the straight. The tighter new turn in S2 would give a passing place, but looks too tight to race well. Monaco's change is one that I do like, and it could work well. Moving nouvelle back could help as well, if a new area is built just like the existing chicane. Singapore's arena section (T16-19) will be torn down in a year or two iirc, so there could be a straight between the current T16 and 19. The final corner would require a lot of building work, especially as it requires a lot more runoff than the current corner. China's redesign could work very well, but the racing there can be very good already, so it doesn't really need to change.
@felito214 жыл бұрын
Hmmm
@limpetarch98k5 ай бұрын
For Barcelona, you also need to change Turn 1. Its suppose to be a heavy braking zone à la Monza, but its still a fast corner. Or you can change turn 3 to make it a very sharp hairpin so that the dirty air problem associated with turn 3 isnt as egregious.
@thomaskompier2757 Жыл бұрын
They could make the final corner at Shanghai a little rounder because it's a hard-to-judge corner and they could go faster which gives a better change of overtaking into turn 1.

In Monaco, extending the back straight through the tunnel by a little bit would not change the reasons why almost no passing occurs on the highest speed section of the track - that the drivers use up all the road width through the tunnel, and then you are immediately into a downhill breaking section the moment you are done navigating that curving tunnel section. If they could move the chicane farther away so that there is some space between exiting the bending tunnel and braking for the chicane, then MAYBE that might help a tiny bit? Or if you want to see the F1 drivers around the circuit and actually passing, maybe have a karting exhibition event for the F1 drivers to compete in on the same weekend for charity or something? 🤔

Hi tommo im a Singaporean here...just wanna add that the grandstand at turn 18-21 (part that u want it to be removed to make long straight to the last corner) is going to be demolished soon to construct a venue called NS Square which will be done at around 2025 so the circuit layout is up in the air for the future. As for that youth olympic park theres a highway and a big bridge that starts from the road beside it so it cant just be demolished and make the track go through there. Cheers :)
@pulkka253 жыл бұрын
There is a reason for the chicane before turn 7 in Abu Dhabi; not enough run-off area for a hard braking zone. To remove those corners you would need to tear down the whole grandstand facing the corner. That strip of tarmac is there for other layouts where they don't reach such high speeds before the hairpin. So yeah maybe the change is doable but it is far more complicated than it seems at first glance

3:45 I would remove the chicane in the middle of the straight and add the hard braking zone at the end of the straight. I like the decreasing radius corner that you killed.
@utry_daniel4383 жыл бұрын
I remember hearing that the reason they had to add that horrible chicane in Abu Dhabi is that they didn't have enough runoff compared to the amount of speed they would carry into that corner or something.

The chicane at the hairpin at Yas Marina is only there for safety reasons as there is very little run off.

For those tracks that already have the changes in the form of slip roads, I wonder if an e-sports simulation can be held to see if these changes make things more interesting!

Tommo: worst an bored circuits 2021: hold my beer
@astideri35433 жыл бұрын
Great video, but tbh I don't think that the reason for boring races at Paul Ricard an Shanghai is due to lack of overtaking spots. It's probably because it is too easy to overtake on those circuits and the huge runoff areas.

I'm just gonna say I think Singapore has great races every time (racing wise). 2019's race was the most underrated race of the year.

Yes it is exciting. But at the hint of an overtaking move some drivers just take the escape route or we have racing incidents (Stroll-Norris). Its really difficult to go side by side at that speed and angle. Maybe widening the corner like turn one in Portugal?

I think at Singapore turns 8 and 14 the junction should be opened up so they have to cross over each others paths. Williams would then have an actual chance of "knocking" Lewis off the podium. Also, random red lights and crossing trains.

@mancantswim661914 жыл бұрын
@@CIinbox How would you fix it? Imo, the track flow is brilliant. The only change I would make is to go straight on at the small right kink before Rivazza and then make Rivazza a tight hairpin and then have it open up like Parabolica (@Monza). However, this would reduce the chance of an overtake at Variante Bassa, although we could create a "new" Variante Bassa by switching the side of the pit boxes and reversing the direction of the chicane, also removing the small right kink that proceeds Variante Bassa. I thought of placing it after the start line, but there is a restaurant there and Italian's love their food, so I wouldn't want to remove it. Saying that though, I would absolutely YEET the ice skating arena at Sochi, cos, who really actually cares about ice skating.

I will be fair i like most of the tracks. Monaco I agree with you Tommo, no change is better, but well... (If i could I would change Monaco with Australia). But about Singapore I have another change that might be even better: so instead of cutting turns 18 through 21 and passing through the park, you could instead cut turns 16 through 19, make a chicane or something else at turns 20 and 21 and maybe maintain the actual last corners.
@harveymoss67674 жыл бұрын
Good video idea: Tommo’s perfect 23 race calendar. So you replace the boring tracks to what you think should be on the calendar (mugello,kyalami etc) to make up the perfect track season.

You can't skip the 5-7 complex at Yas Marina because there is not enough runoff behind turn 7. It's just a bit of tarmac into a wall. You'd also have to demolish a big grandstand there to give it more runoff, so… yeah…not happening.
