When faith collides with reality - Reggie Beloved

Today I spoke with Reggie Beloved, who gave his life to Jesus and was committed to living for him, but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart.
We touched on many topics, including:
• Growing up in Haiti with Catholic and Baptist influences that shaped his early religious experiences.
• Being taught to view god as an omnipresent and judgmental figure.
• Accepting the Gospel and committing his life to Jesus.
• Encountering contradictions in scripture that undermined the claims of divine authorship and consistency.
• Reading the Bible and Quran during his deployment in Iraq and grappling with their depictions of violence, slavery, and patriarchal practices, and concluding that both were human-created texts with significant flaws.
• Rejecting the concept of faith as a virtue after recognizing its role in suppressing critical thought.
• Choosing to prioritize morality and human connection over adherence to outdated religious doctrines.
• Letting go of Christianity after critically examining its contradictions and moral inconsistencies.
• Embracing atheism and finding freedom and intellectual fulfillment in a secular community.
• Rebuilding his worldview by critically analyzing religious beliefs and seeking evidence-based understanding.
• Realizing the societal harm caused by religious indoctrination and dedicating himself to promoting secular education.
• Reflecting on the cultural and psychological effects of growing up in a deeply religious environment.
• Advocating for open dialogue about religious trauma to help others heal and reclaim their autonomy.
• Founding the Haitian Freethinkers group to support secular individuals in the Haitian community.
