It’s amazing although how funny, chaotic, and knee slapping DRG can be a lot, it’s moments like these you stop and just listen and just soak in the feeling and nature of the world you as a dwarf are in. This song just radiates the energy of those who came before you, to those who didn’t make it back to the drop pod, to those who were lost in the unforgiving planet’s clutches. This one’s for our fallen brothers. Rock and stone forever lads, rock and stone.

Where Leaf Lovers or Humans might see the caves of Hoxxes as claustrophobic death traps, I think this track shows how the Dwarves view them. In a way, caves and other geological structures are just the architecture created by the planet itself, waiting for billions of years for someone to comprehend and admire its beauty. Just trying to find the right words to put to this track, amazing animation!

It is the fathomless tomb of the planet itself. Dwarves are meant to live, work, and die in the caves. Born from stone, and to stone they return - but not without a fight. Fathomless tomb always makes me think of how big Hoxxes is. It'll take thousands of years to completely mine that rock. So much beauty and wealth. I remember playing the game with some friends a few weeks ago in the radioactive exclusion zone. The pod dropped, we walked out into a small spawn, and our driller went ahead into the dirt. We kept waking through small, claustrophobic caves and at the end of it was the largest, most beautiful cave I’ve ever seen in the game. A 160m cave that stretched across into a pitch dark, spots of green glowing everywhere. Stone had formed into natural bridges and pillars, creating something like a giant web. We spent over an hour in there and I always remember it when this song plays. Great video!

driller here: if you leave the 'pod and the driller immediately hurtles into a tunnel somewhere, it's good odds he's spotted something on the terrain scanner, or he's trying to make a passage to the deeper sections of the cave for ease of access to the pod, during extraction. or, in my case... I just put on Diggy Diggy hole, and do my best mole people impression.

I remember getting a similar generation to that in Hollow Bough. Something about the vines snaking through the barely lit room and just being able to make out the shapes of them from the limited light of my headlamp, knowing that anything could be hiding in the darkness combined with the deafening silence of that exact moment.. it made me completely stop and just take in the beauty of the room for a few minutes. If I’d remembered what button hid the hud in the moment I’d honestly use the screenshot I took of the room as a desktop background

This is how I felt hearing Ode to the Fallen for the first time after loosing a Greenbeard driller who begged to be left behind. Me (engineer), a greybeard scout and a greenbeard gunner were at the drop pod at the 3 minute mark when I see the driller's been downed. He'd tried to drill to the drop pod but was out of fuel and had to go the long way round. He begged to be left behind, saying there was no point in saving him. I disagreed. 2:30 were left. I alone ran what felt like miles to save him, running through and around Haz 5 levels of swarms to get him. I got to him, got him up and we had to effectively climb Mt. Everest to get to the drop pod. I have never been so on point with my platforms as I scaled it like a mountain goat with the driller close behind. Just before we reached the summit he stumbled slightly and fell behind, but not by much as I ran around the corner to the drop pod. 10 seconds were left I made it to the ramp to the pod and looked back to see him turn the corner, only to see a grunt blindside him at 1 hp. I saw him fall and I felt my heart do the same. There was nothing more I could do. I had no time, no field medic and no backup. It was with a shamed turn that I left him and boarded the drop pod at the last second. As much as it pained me, it was better to lose only one dwarf and not two. I'd lost brother's before, but they knew what they were doing and why they decided to fall. That driller didn't deserve his fate. I still have disturbed nights over it. Before every promotion I buy an oily oaf and salute his statue as both a sign of respect and so that the music can properly kick in. He will not be forgotten. No more shall I ever allow dwarfs to be left behind. His statue shall forever stand proud in the memorial hall. Rock and Stone.

Back on the homeworld, momma’s probably still making ironbuck grits, flavoring it with the local berries… Here I am. On Hoxxes IV. I am a humble miner. A song moment like this is the same energy as right before a big storm. The silence, the calm. It's eerie but...comforting. Feeling the only sound in the world being the wind around you. No animals, no people...and then it rains.

Fathomless Tomb is a Masterpiece of an ambient track. It's the background sound when you take a moment to rest,to remember what you have done, and contemplate what you will do next. You start to ask yorself why, then stat to think about how you got here. then, you remember an old memory you cherished long ago. You start to appreciate the time you had with friends and family. You rest and think for a while, and eventually, at long last, you thank yourself for holding on to the good memories, then you slowly start to continue the task at hand, a little happier, a little sadder, a little more content, and finish your work. Today has been a good day, and tomorrow is looking brighter then it did. Rock And Stone miners.

The first time i did a salvage mission, when i found the drop pod i walked over and saw a helmet lying on the floor (the ones that you scan to download map data) and this started playing. I froze and stood looking at that helmet while the music played for about 10 seconds before a swarm came and the music switched to A Distant Terror lol

This track speaks to me in a deeply emotional level, It makes you ponder about the tragedies of the past, to think about the moral choices you had to take to reach the point you are at right now. I just adore the feeling of melancholy it gives off.

@CompletelyroundOak Indeed, lootbugs are there not to provide the player with vital resources they might need but are the object to test the player's morals; do you kill this harmless bug to feed your greed and have an easy way to call for supply drops? or do you leave them be and choose to earn those critical resources the hard way by mining in often dangerous areas?

Every time I hear this track I remember entering a cave full of crystals, it was massive, and the light of the glow rocks and my flares made me stop, the song practically echoed through room, and despite there really not being much in it of value, I still took my time and just enjoyed how beautiful the game could be

The first time I saw this video some months ago was the first time it ever even occurred to me to just stop and take in the view of some of the caves in this game. Also this was the first time I'd ever heard Fathomless Tomb even get to this part bc most of the times it was playing we'd get a swarm before the good part which resets the track.

This track gives you that feeling that dispite being on an extremely hostile panet that is being constanly hit by meteors, microwaved by ita parent star and inhabitated by alot of chaotic wild life that for the moment it has found a peeiod of calmness and peace, and thats why i think this is the best non swarm music in the game

I remember going in wide open places in biomes that have some kind of natural light sources, (i.e. Magma Core with the geysers and molten rock. or the Azure Weald with it's bioluminescent plants) I sometimes turn off the headlamp and let myself be completely surrounded in darkness. As I look at the silhouettes of the environment in the distance and when this song plays, I sit there awestruck at the beauty that these cave systems have... Then Management tells me a swarm is coming so it's back to work .

I have an existential crisis everytime I hear this song. Even in amidst the absolute chaos of hazard 5 where ONE mistake could easily be the end for you (which I think is the true nature of Hoxxes if we were there in real life), I have to take a moment to really soak up the emotion in this track. Whereas almost every other tracks are dark synth and electronic to pump your andrenaline up, this one stands out from the rest to me as the only track that does not do exactly that. It reminds me, that as chaotic as this game and life can be, there are certain moments where you stop and suddenly feel that there are beauty in the nature of this world, its good and evil, light and dark, everything is in sync, one cannot exist without the other because they are 2 faces of the same coin. Everything you do is meaningless to the beauty of the vast unknown, if it weren't for the ones you love and care for, why do you even try right? Truly, a Fathomless Tomb.

"Should one seek glory and gold, one need not look further than the abyss. Feel no fear brother, know the abyss stares back upon you. They will feast upon fear. Dare you take the first step into the perennial depths, prepare first by drinking with those whom you hold dear; for it will most likely be the last from them you will hear. Head further into the darkness, dwarf. Click clack of your packs, pings and clings of your swings. Our brother was a warning, now he is our creed, may he rest in piece for he came in our time of need. This warning, is Karls heed." Is what this music makes me feel.
