How to remove barnacles without hurting the sea-turtle: 1. Place turtle in fresh water. 2. Barnacles die and fall off. 3. Anything else can cause infections and is painful.
@michaellwalker87483 жыл бұрын
How long does that take?

Barnacles are harmless, provide useful hunting camouflage , and are easily removed by the turtle scraping itself off on a rock, assuming you'd think the turtle actually wants it off... Now, barnacles on a ship brings drag, which means you need more resources and energy, therefore more fuel or frantic rowing, to move the ship. But a turtle is a frikkin' dinosaur: it won't even feel the things.
@Nost26825 жыл бұрын
@@ceeqanguel Barnacles make the turtles heavier and they need more power to swim. In addition, they do not sit evenly on the turtle.

@sootlet88946 жыл бұрын
Sekhar Dommeti they did. can see him without them at 4:15
@SpiritBear126 жыл бұрын
Barnacles are not parasites. Parasites feed off of a live body in some manner. Barnacles don't do that, they feed from the water. They filter out small bits of food with feathery projections and draw them back in to consume what they caught. They just attach themselves to rocks and slow moving creatures. Even large whales tend to get barnacles on them. They pose no real threat to the animal. But the turtle was sick and probably moving too slow, so the barnacles stuck to it. Since there were quite a few, they were probably causing some drag, slowing down the turtle some more and adding weight to him. That was the problem, but barnacles are not parasites. The narrator, or whoever wrote what he was reading doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.

They spent three hours removing all of the barnacles. It's in the video.

@debbiehenri71705 жыл бұрын
In Britain, plastic bags now cost 10p rather than being provided free. While this has lowered usage, I notice some ppl are now buying them again rather than bring long lasting bags or crates (I use crates). The other problem is, open a box containing a mobile phone, microwave oven, toaster, whatever, and a FLOOD of plastic bags avalanche out of it. About time manufacturers of, well, practically everything were discouraged from using so much plastic packaging.

Ya okay whatever, NOT. We may not dump "as much" as others do but we do contribute. I know first hand knowledge of ships dump grain and other loads just to keep stocks at a certain level and that is not even garbage. Remeber the old catch phrase " The Solution to Pollution is dilution"? Besides with that (let them clean it up) attitude, nothing will get done. If we do it we could exchange for carbon credits, make money and the most important part, it gives Canada and or US some really good PR.

The fishermen definitely did the right thing - they cared. If you don't try... But I do hope that they, and other trawlers take precautions in having sea turtles and marine mammals not caught up in their nets, to drown. As far as those floating junkyards, maybe big ships can gather it all up and then we can throw it in some volcano. Bam.

Anyone else notice the rubbish on the beach at 3:16 isn't quiete right 1st I noticed the wheel and tyre are from a scale model and then you look closer and other things don't match up, Anyone else notice it? Good video

@JT_706 жыл бұрын
It's off a small toy, not a lawn mower. The other fragments around it are all larger than life due to the close up photo. Glass particles are normally quite small when they wash ashore by wave action, not large like they appear in this shot. Look at the pieces of wood and tiny roots which look large in the video.

It is amazing what forced perspective does but I disagree its definetly a Model wheel from a 4x4 due to the width and the molded wheel with hub cover but its a helluva cool picture all the same, But the main point is poor Turtle. Thanks

Those barnacles should have been removed immediately , not 2 days later for vet care , very sad the turtle passed away. """"Angel Turtle """
@rsmith023 жыл бұрын
Barnacles don't hurt the turtle, though. They just add weight and slow it down, which doesn't matter if it's sitting on a boat.

That breaks my heart. There isn't very many left in this world. There is a disease that makes sea turtles float and not able to submerge. Sad!! Rest in Peace sweet turtle!! Xoxo

@@dededenver9560 if it lives off another animal it's a parasite. Duh
@dededenver95605 жыл бұрын
@@jonathan2755, barnacles attach themselves to hard surfaces, such as ship hulls, rocks, docks, and turtle shells. Since turtles are constantly in motion, barnacle larvae don't usually attach to them, but a sick turtle is less mobile, so the shell appears stable enough for barnacles to start a colony. They are attached and grow constantly. So they become extra weight and drag on the turtle, which compounds the problem of poor mobility. So while they live on the turtle shell simply by circumstance, they do not feed off the turtle. A parasite lives on the tissues of it's host, usually causing health problems for the host over time, such as intestinal worms, ticks, fleas, or bedbugs. Maybe you should look it up. DUH.

Is there someway possible to monitor the sources that are polluting the oceans as in Cruise ships, Cargo ships, devastating weather events, Japan’s Nuclear disaster in order to force the Shipping companies, Japan’s Government, etc. To clean up the plastic trash they are responsible for? Even the fishing ships with not caring about loss of their nets or damage to the ocean floor by these trawling nets. How to make them accountable!
@Durka-Durka6 жыл бұрын
Or make things out of biodegradable material might be a better solution.
@imnotacat52996 жыл бұрын
If you want to hold them accountable, don't buy anything that uses plastic or invent a cheep, biodegradable alternative. But seeing as how the former isn't practical & the latter is already being worked on, we allow things to stay the way they are. Everyone who uses plastic is responsible. That includes you, me, and everyone one else who doesn't live in a farm or in the wild.

Gail Howes it would be nice if part of the taxes that are paid in all of the countries go partially to a cleanup crew who are specially assigned to clean up the ocean so that this doesn't happen to more wildlife.
@JessieI5 жыл бұрын
Gail Howes, yes, there are organizations both governmental and non-governmental that do this and/or other conservation activities to save wildlife and protect the environment and the earths biodiversity. I’m posting you a website with a list of international and national organizations. How involved you become is up to you. When I was young and broke I gave time and effort. I’m older and injured, I give money and share their works and stories. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_conservation_organisations
