Ugh… I found your channel through a simple search for St Elmo’s Fire and have plowed through most of your video back library. Please don’t go away!!! Your voice is too good.

This movie has a place in my heart for purely self-serving reasons. My Rocky Horror cast actually performed it -- rehearsed for months prior, even -- and I played Mushnik. One of my roommates played Audrey II and devised a gigantic wearable costume. The damn thing was so unwieldy it couldn't really be stored inside the house. So since we performed it in the summer, he stashed it on the porch and scared the bejeezus out of a couple of mail carriers. The cast who wasn't in named roles filled in as the residents during "Skid Row" and the climax of that number was one of those moments where we briefly bridged the gap into being an actual stage troupe.

Somehow, I've never gotten around to seeing this one but you've sold me, Morgan. Besides, anything with Moranis, Candy, Martin and Murray is always gonna reel me in.

Yeah, it's stacked with so many comedy greats that it's worth watching just for that. But it's also just a great deal of fun.

Morgan, As you so eloquently put it once, "Sometimes I miss the '80's so much, I could cry.". 🙂

I saw this film in that time. I must say that Steve Martin was the one that stood out for me. I didn't knew that Bill Murray was in the film. I was not a fan of musicals and I though the film was a bit bizarre.

Man did I love this movie as a kid. I think I can recite this whole movie by heart. i didn't even know the alternate version existed as a movie until this past year, which was a huge shock. Unlike Morgan, though, I have no interest in the recasting choices. None of those casting choices seem remotely intriguing to me. I may be too far gone but Seymour has to have an "aw shucks" vibe about him and Hollywood seems to keep thinking that only pretty boy/girl action star can play leading roles. If he wasn't so tall I would say Nicholas Braun could do it, or if there was a young William H Macy. Maybe Charlie Day as Seymour, Anna Faris as Audrey, JK Simmons as Melchink, Gerald Levert as Audrey II (Billy Porter is not right for every dang thing), and yeah Chris Evans as the dentist might be fun.

Fun Fact #3: Chris Rock is the son of one of the three girls in the Greek Chorus (can’t remember which one, though).

Sort of! -- Tichina Arnold, who played Crystal, played Chris's mom in Everybody Hates Chris, and her character was based on Chris's real-life mom.

I agree with you Morgan about the unnecessary remakes but this one sounding good. I think stage musicals can have a bit of a pass on the remakes issue though; they get re-staged with new casts all the time, so maybe my mind is just primed to see different variations of the same show every dozen years.

The movie with like 1,000 porn parodies. lol. Next thing you know they'll reboot Ghostbusters as a musical... But sometimes the reboot if done well can be as good as this.

I had no idea about the porn parodies! Makes sense, I suppose.

@@MorganRichter Just a joke, not sure if there are any or not, but I watch reviews and they usually make that joke, about "Little Shop of what...? Oh, I see, its spelled differently."

@@MorganRichter Okay one more joke... I always wish there was one more product placement in E.T., or at least a regular advertisement on TV, as a tie in merchandise.. "E.T. foam home'. "Yes, you too can get foam, for your home, at very low discounted rates. "ET, Foam Home... E.T. Foam home... E.T. foam home." Then E.T. climbs out of foam dog style home. I' didn't say they were good jokes, just what I think of when I hear the movies titles. One of these days I need to go and watch The Quest{ Frog Dreaming} again.
