What would have made this part of the film/sketch really funny, as it's the only part of the film that most people have seen or remember anyway if they're being honest, Is if the waiter/owner/assistant, replied/answered, by saying, 'She's having a club sandwich & some cake/pie by the looks of it'. This is what a True actual sense of humor is all about, unlike those that have got away making films/ TV shows for years that are not funny and/or don't really have a sense of humor.

The succinctness of "I'll have what she's having" as the final punchline is why the joke works. Adding another less funny secondary laugh grab would be "milking it". Sorry.... There's an obvious bad cut at 1.25 when the shot changes from 'over the shoulder' medium shot to the wide shot showing the two of them. In the 'over the shoulder' shot she appears to look away to the left. Immediately when the scene cuts to the wide shot she is looking right in front of him. Somehow the continuity guy did not catch that. So the poor editor had no choice but to do the cut that way.

There are interviews with both Norah Ephron and Rob Reiner during which they discuss their collaborative discussions before writing the script. One such discussions is the orgasm scene. They pretty much took their discussion verbatim to the script. Thy plotted out the differences between how men and women approach love relationships. Norah had to explain to Rob that very point that women fake orgasms. Rob at first didn’t believe her. This bonus feature is a must see for those of us who love this film. Epic film lore.
