Guys usually ghost when they believe they have more options than they really have. Guys usually dont have as many as women so they usually always come back.

Or they ghost because they realize that this particular woman requires too much time/effort and they don't get "enough" out of it. E.g. if a guy is only looking for casual sex and a fun hook-up and something to validate his fragile ego, he doesn't want a woman that has high standards and wants to be intellectually stimulated, wants him to invest time in getting to know her, etc. And because it's difficult to communicate those things (since the woman might react in an upset/frustrated way if the guy hadn't previously made his intentions clear), guys are often cowards who'd rather ghost than to have that uncomfortable conversation. PS: I know women can be cowards, too, and ghost somebody instead of having a conversation. It's sadly become more normal in our texting-based times.

Can I give another reason for ghosting (from a ghoster). I’m 34, spent my 20s being messed about and was ghosted etc. A few months ago, I met an amazing kind man, and when my feelings became intense (I was falling for him) I blocked him off everything and ghosted him. I did this because I couldn’t cope with my feelings, had unresolved past issues, and I felt in my mind that “I’ll get rid of him before he hurts me”. I ended up going to counselling for unrelated issues, and the counsellor made me realise that I had severe abandonment issues. I got back in touch with the man I had ghosted months later (after working on myself) and we have an amazing relationship now. All im saying is, not all “ghosters” are mean people, a lot of them might be messed up. Just remember, it’s not a reflection of you when someone does this x

Props to you! There are more reasons for ghosting than simply "dating other people simultaneously". We have made everything so black and white in this generation. Sometimes we need to assess our personal experiences to react differently, instead of blindly believing everyone functions and behaves the same way. That said, as someone being ghosted, you don't deserve to be treated that way- just be upfront about your boundaries, listen to their part of the story, and see if it sounds genuine. Of course this works only if you are secure in yourself.

Wish I had heard this advice three months back when the ghost I dealt with, returned after six months of break up with the idea of second chance. I gave him what he needed at the moment. I regret even today after he has left spoiling the peace within me again in the whole same way. So ladies, forgiveness is a choice, not a feeling. If they contact me before the cutoff, I MAY give them another chance, depending on whether they offer a valid reason for disappearing and don't repeat the behavior. Nah it’s much worse for them if they think someone else moved in on and courted you while they where out looking for options and dating others. It gives you value and makes them feel like a loser if they think someone swooped in to grab you up. It’s the thing most nightmares are made of with these dudes that’s why he brings it up subconsciously. You will strike massive cords of insecurity. Honestly, girl, the next step would be just to delete the WhatsApp chat with him and block his number. You already know that you'll never want to communicate with him again, so the only reason you're still letting him message you (by not blocking him yet) is probably because you're curious whether he will continue to message you each month. So perhaps, on some level, you do get some sort of validation out of this? I don't know. I'm only speculating, and only you can look inside yourself and figure it out. :) I'm not trying to be rude to you, but I've been in that same situation with a few guys before and eventually realized there's no use in letting them do this -- it's fairer to myself to just block them and never have to think about them again.

Similar thing happened to me. Only several months ago, we ran into each other and he tried to shove his way back into my life. I made it clear that I didn't want to be close like we were before and when I saw the tiniest red flag, I cut him off. Apparently, he didn't like it that I cut him off, but he taught me how. One thing I've learned is that these people are HIGHLY insecure and selfish. They constantly need attention and validation. When they deplete you, they drop you like a bad habit and then they're off to their next victims while you're left sad, confused, and exhausted. It's sad, really because instead of them working on themselves on the inside, they're constantly searching for it on the outside. For me personally, I'm glad I had this experience. Even though, at first, it was pure hell. It really helped me to spot out these vampires and avoid them at all costs.

My question is: why do most men constantly cheat on their women? I've got loads of male friends and they tell me the most horrifying stories about how they cheated and never got caught, how some cheated right before their wedding day and straight after and they brag about it. I think men and women cheat. Our environment has a massive influence on us, so if you're surrounded by those that cheat and take pride in it, I'd carefully reassess those relationships since you sound like someone who feels that cheating is a terrible thing to do. There's a great book by Esther Perel The State of Affairs: Rethinking Infidelity. I'd highly recommend it if you want to understand why people cheat, how to get over someone cheating.

As someone who saw it as a fling who was being called by this guy everyday, I asked him if he could let me know how I was too full on so I could learn from it. He never replied. Few months later, he messaged again. I told him I didn't want to talk to someone who had randomly ghosted me twice now. To give him his due he apolised and hasn't messaged since. If I don't hear from someone for a few days, I have a cutoff date. If they contact me before the cutoff, I MAY give them another chance, depending on whether they offer a valid reason for disappearing and don't repeat the behavior. If they don't contact me before the cutoff, I delete their number and don't respond at all even if I do hear from them after the fact. It doesn't matter how much I liked them, it only matters how they treated me.

I once sort of ghosted a guy after he made a half-ass attempt of asking me out, and the shitty part is I really liked him and wanted to go out with him but I have low self confidence when it comes to these things so it’s not always about not being interested, sometimes the reason someone is ghosting you is because they think they’re not good enough for you and want to work on themselves / not ready for a relationship and it has nothing to do with you. And when they come back it might be to reassure you that they still think about you sometimes as someone they could potentiallh match with. Ghosting is harsh but it’s not always about YOU. I find it’s just as often a case of the ghoster having extremely low confidence /not feeling good enough and instead of facing your rejection after the first date, they feel ghosting you is easier because then you never have the chance of rejecting them.
