I've loved Janis's music for over 50 years. She's one of the greatest singer-songwriters ever. Her music and lyrics (and her beautiful voice) always touch me deeply. Thank you, Janis! You are loved and appreciated. You're a true gift.

@@janisianchannelI've liked you ever since I heard "Society's Child." It's crazy to think some DJ was beaten up for playing that and nobody would bat an eyelash at it today, except that girl's family would be cancelled! Of course today they might welcome the black boy with open arms to be trendy,or at least pretend to. You can have our wallet too! Just don't come outside our doors with bull horns! I bet you never dreamed when you were in the closet that one day you'd be ahead of the game when you were out! Did you ever think one day grade schoolers would be out?! I also like "At 17" and I know you've never cared for "The Bridge" too. I also love and miss the late Laura Nyro. It's a very impressive that you knew when she said she wanted the music to be like a purple chair you knew she meant legato. We also recently lost Ezzra Mohawk. I corresponded with her here a couple of years ago and she seemed to think Laura and maybe to some extent you messed up her career, but I tend to think it might have been more of a David Geffen thing since Laura was never looking for superstardom anyway. I'm so sorry you will no longer be recording because I really do like your work. Time is an effing thief and executioner!

I've never heard this song before. WOW, how heartbreakingly beautiful and sad at the same time. I hate that Janice's mom never got over her relationship with Janice's dad. Sometimes there's only one true love. I hope her mom was at least happy. My mom and dad separated when I was 9 yrs old, I'll be 70 this month (Sept 2024). Sadly no matter how much my parents loved each other and they did deeply, until the day they died, it just wasn't enough. My father was an alcoholic and my mother very spiritual. However, they stayed devoted to each other their entire lives. Sometimes love just isn't even. ❤❤❤❤ Love ya Janice, your music has given me so much throughout these many years. In fact I was fortunate enough to hear u live in Santa Cruz, CA around 2016. What a gift it was to hear you perform live, get you to sign my Stars album and meet you. Thank you for all the joy you've given us all. FYI, Loved your book Society's Child. I've actually read it several times, it's very inspirational. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

To be honest I don't think either of them ever got over it. My mother had an MS and was wheelchair-bound toward the end of her life, and whenever he was in New York my father would visit. They had a lot of respect for one another. It just wasn't meant to be.

So heart wrenching-my parents separated for 5 years when I was 14 and I lived with my dad and older brother while my mom took the 3 younger kids. I'll never forget coming home the day she drove away with them. I saw them weekly, but it was never the same and even though my parents were able to get back together, the pain remains.

Victor and Pearl Fink’s marriage ended when Janis was still in her teens. Weirdly she felt her success played a part, but apparently it was infidelity on his part, to begin with, that ended the marriage. This is a very wistful video depicting what once was and what could have been. It’s doubly sad for myself, as Janis has lost her singing voice and is looking behind as opposed to ahead, in her 73rd year. Very sad, indeed. 😰😰😰😰😰
