Nobody has this figured out. Hickeroo the shrew has repeatedly been a sour loser and claimed cheating. He LOST the lawsuit against Hans Niemann who Kramnik is now coaching. This is all a publicity stunt taking advantage of Hickeroo and his hypocrisy. Meanwhile, Hans has crushed both Zagreb and the London Classic and Hickeroo is too much of a lemon to reference it.

Very entertaining to see the young Grand Master Hikaru Nakamura defeat the former world champion Vladimir Kramnick in such an interesting game featuring an underpromotion to a knight that would eventually win the game! This win also ended a very suspect 64 game unbeaten streak for Vladimir. How is it he was able to score on so many consecutive games against so many highly rated Grand Masters? Seems statistically impossible to me. I'm not a professional statistician but I do play chess quite a bit.

We need a statistician to calculate the relative probabilities of Hikaru's 45.5/46 and Kramnik's 64-game unbeaten streaks. As an aside, is it possible that Kramnik held a grudge against Hikaru ever since this game?
@11.15.M
@11.15.M 11 ай бұрын
I was thinking the exact same question you are asking
@BrennenChua
@BrennenChua 11 ай бұрын
I'll do a few simplifications to make it fit in a comment. For naka, let's discard the draw and say 45 wins / 45 games against opponents - 350. At - 350, score chances = 92% So a 92% chance event to happen 45 consecutive times is at 0.92^45, which results in a 2.3% chance of happening. For VK, since it's unbeaten which includes draws, these are the assumptions, which are generous. 15% win 80% draw 5% lose. So to not lose = 95%. So 64 consecutive 95% is at 3.8%. In the overall scheme of things, HNs run is almost guaranteed to happen given the number of games played. As an example, put in 2 red marbles and 98 blue marbles in a bag. The chances of getting red is 2%. But if I ask you to draw from that bag (returning the ball after every draw), I wouldn't bet against you drawing a red ball if you'd draw 500x. In fact it's harder not to draw a red ball during that 500 attempts run.

Worth to mention Kramnik played on even when mate was unstoppable because there was still the chance, as briefly demonstrated, that he could lure Hikaru into a stalemate trap. If a move that looks natural and winning is a stalemate blunder, it's worth baiting it. He resigned only when Hikaru avoided the stalemate trap.

A mathematical proof is one of the most difficult thing in this universe. Many times simple statements feel intuitively correct, but are very-very hard to prove(see the very beautiful proof by Euclid for “ there are infinitely many prime numbers” which seems obvious but hard to prove!). No wonder there are many “conjectures” to be proved which have taken centuries. For example one of the most famous conjecture in 1637 by Pierre de Fermat is the “Fermat's last theorem” and was proved by Andrew John Wiles in mid 90s. There are tons of beautiful articles on the internet which explain the difference between a mathematical conjecture and a mathematical proof, for people outside the domain of mathematics. Anyway hats off to Hikaru for his continued passion for the game, and remaining undaunted!.
