One thing that as a DM has felt clunky is the wide varieties of ways that players have the ability to knock things around simply by hitting or knocking things prone without a saving throw. Legendary resistances were there to prevent a boss from getting immediately decimated. Now I have Goliath Rogues knocking people prone for free getting sneak damage. It becomes even more problematic for flying targets who, if get prone drop to the ground. Fighters moving targets 50 ft in a round with a reach weapon is insane. I really wish they would have put saves to some of these. I think they saw some of these concepts from Warlocks and broadened them to others. It never felt bad with Warlocks because there would only be one in the group usually, but now multiple characters can work together to knock a villian 100ft away off a cliff or into a pool of lava effortlessly. That's my biggest gripe with 2024 RAW atm.

3:07. "What I've done is maxed out all of my monsters' hit points." I've done this in addition to maximizing the monsters' damage. It's worked fairly well when it's time for a knock-down-drag-out fight where I want the threat of danger to feel real. But really, if you're not sure if you're challenging the party enough, remember that you can always add a dragon. Combat encounter balance rules be damned - send more dragons. Party walloping your wizards? Send more dragons. Vampires getting vaporized? Send more dragons. Are your liches getting stiches? Send more dragons. Are your mind flayers flayed like the players were getting paid? Send more dragons. Worried about the odds when the party faces gods? Send more dragons. I don't have a campaign (playing or running) at the moment, but I've been pondering a 2024 update to the hexblade warlock... though it would likely be under a different name. ("Hexbound"?) Basically, my concept is a patron based around enhancing the features and flavor of whichever pact boon was chosen at level one: pact of the blade gets proficiency in medium armor and shields and the pact weapon counts as magical for overcoming resistances, pact of the chain grants telepathic communication with your familiar at any distance on the same plane, etc. I haven't figured out what bonuses pact of the tome should get yet... Long story short, I'm trying to make a more warlock-y warlock. And yes, I realize that making the pact boons into invocations in 2024 complicates things. There would need to be concrete language ensuring the subclass locks the PC into only getting bonuses from one boon at a time.

If you think there's power creep in this new edition, you really need to watch Treantmonk and D4. They both have done the math on new and old classes. The power levels of PCs are very similar to what they've been in the past. My players in 2014 were already very strong and I already was using max HP to have my enemies survive for more than 1 round of combat. I love the new changes and Weapon Masteries have been so much fun (on both sides of the DM screen). I've also had some Players want to stay in 5.14, which is fine. I just made sure they had no access to the new feats/weapon masteries (I have 1 player with a cracked out Sharpshooter build). Anyone else that wanted to update to 5.24 lost access to the older versions of the new feats, but gained all the other benefits of the new edition. In these mixed groups, I have not seen a disparity in power levels between the new and old characters. For context, I play 3 days a week, with different groups and rotating campaigns (6+ Campaigns).

@@Felrohan From what I've heard of the Treantmonk video, it was quite flawed with it's approach, mainly because the power creep of One Dnd is not necessarily in raw damage numbers, but rather in versatility and crowd control. Can't quite put something like the new Giant Insect 0 move speed on hit effect on a spreadsheet. I don't know if d4's video is the same, but I wouldn't be too surprised. I'm sorry, but One Dnd is an objectively higher power level compared to 2014. Between the Origin feat, broad buffs across the board (except Ranger for some reason), the power is higher. The top end of optimization might not have budged much, but the bottom objectively did. Sure something like Twilight Cleric can keep up, but that subclass was an extreme outlier in 5e. That being said, if you prefer the higher level you may continue and have fun. There are still issues with One Dnd beyond that (most inter-option balance is still terrible, bland features, etc.) but that's a whole other topic

2024 Twinspell is nothing at all like like the 2014 Twinspell, so that is a case that is worth considering, either let the person keep the old version, or let them pick something else should they decide they don't like the new version. I have one table that has made the change, and one table that hasn't, and likely won't until after the new monster manual or maybe not even then. Also, you are not beholden to the the Rules as written and never were, you can hybridize with table rulings to make your own twist that is a mix of both. A few of my Updated Characters are not ditching their Background features for the new version of Backgrounds + origin feat, because the 2014 backgrounds are a little better for roleplay.

Why are we calling it 2024 when 1/3 of the game is being released in 2025? This is inconsistent with previous rules updates, in accurate, and IMHO it sounds dumb. Can't we all just agree to call it 5.5 whether WOTC likes it or not?
