The "They sleepy" is really cool but should also half their speed, cause idk who just about to fall asleep runs 30 feet before passing out. New meta- When you are about to fall asleep from sleep, run 30 feet to a tree and climb it so you fall and take a bit of falling damage and wake back up.

this is literally what i was thinking, it reminded me of the sleep effect in monster hunter where you can walk around kinda drouzy, not being able to attack, so you would either be sipping an energy drink if you could select and use one in time, or walk over to the next ledge so than when you fall forward, you fall off and wake up

The new sleep spell works how I do, even if someone tried to use magic to put me to sleep, it's not happening in 6 seconds. If it takes me an hour to fall asleep naturally, there is no way i fall asleep in 6 seconds to some magical words. I do like the idea it makes you super drowsy and you can assume "if you are in combat- that round of movement might let them run away to alert someone BUT- if you cast it secretly, they aren't aware of any danger so why would they suddenly run when they feel tired?" it gives a great way of making it work different in combat and outside of combat.

Its decently backwards compatible if you use the logic/guidance given by them. Anything that's printed in 2024 PHB and DMG replaces the old subclasses, classes, spells and items. Anything that isnt reprinted, you can port over. So any items, spells, subclasses (like old ones from PHB, XTE or TCoE) feel free. Same with monster stat blocks. If you wanna use an old species (race) just don't take your ability score increase from the bg and you're set.

The one thing that I can't figure out is how the subclasses are backwards compatible for classes like sorcerer, warlock, and cleric. In 2014 5e they get their subclasses at lvl 1 (also druid gets theirs at lvl 2, but in the 2024 rules everyone gets their subclass at lvl 3.

I want to give you a genuine, heartfelt, thank you. I've never ran or read a pre-written adventure before but I knew that I wanted to run the lost mines of phandelver for my 8 and 9 year old nephews who have never played D&D before. And I'm getting them started with the new 2024 books that I bought specifically so I could play it with them rather than having to juggle between 50 odd side books like Tasha's 2014 players handbook xanathars etc. I heard the 2024 books are apparently easier for beginners, and since they are such young children I figured it would be best if I use them along with a quest that people said is great for beginners as well if I gave them like a level 5 wizard mentor that has divination and mostly non-combative spells to allow them to still shine. I know the video just came out an hour ago and I'm only about 10 minutes into it but man am I excited and already so amped to "Not illegally rip this PDF" and run it for my nephews. They just got their dice from kracken dice and are super excited to give it a go whenever I finally figure out how to properly read and run pre-written games haha. Again, thank you for doing this very specific video today lol

Amazing video. The end i think summarizes it pretty good what is the 2024 D&D: many little changes that ends up creating new small but game-changing opportunities to do things differently, that in the whole picture makes the game more dynamic. Unfortunately, sometimes they didn't know how to properly tie these decisions with the flavor and intent of the classes, subclasses and rules in general, which is a bummer. But all in all, it is probably pretty possible to adjust some details to the taste of each table and make it playing 2024's D&D to be an amazing experience. Really excited for Dungeon Delve in 2025! Happy new year!
@Awsomeman3283 күн бұрын
My opinion of 5E 2014 vs. 2024 is that the main decision is mostly about playing when you are playing with brand new play groups, meaning either strangers you've never met before &/or players brand new to the game. Basically, in order to make sure everyone in the play group is on the same page for what all of the rules are, it is important to pick one set of rules and not have a bunch of homebrew rules that everyone has to learn on top of them. After that though, once you are playing with an established play group, that is when the opportunity of mixing, altering, changing, and adding rules to your groups' games comes into play, whether you combine the aspects of what you like from both versions or have some player characters be built in 2014 while others used 2024; Like many have said, including Jacob early in this vid, 5E is so customizable and malleable to accommodate so much creativity and tinkering from the players and able to be resilient enough to not break under that, that you really can just decide that the rules for your guys' games are whatever rules you all agree and decide upon to play with. The most important part of all of that being everyone understanding and agreeing ahead of time what the full set of rules and expectations are at session 0, so as to not "make up" rules in the middle of play, or at least seeming to make up rules while playing. 1:33:12 Idk about y'all, but I'm looking forward to them possibly Dungeon Delving into Mutants and Masterminds as a TTRPG System. I have no basis to think that they would, I'm just shooting my shot at hoping Jacob sees this and tries it out!

General thoughts: 1) Power creep. Which was happening anyway in more recent 5e books. At least with 2024 it seems to have been fairly even across classes (at least for low levels). This is neither good nor bad, but it's something DMs need to be aware of for balancing reasons. 2) I like weapons having 'flavour', but I feel like some of those features are too strong for low levels. I approve of the feat having the level 4 requirement, and I do understand that making martial classes feel cooler is also an element here. This is something I'd want to tweak if implementing in a game (e.g. in 3.5 you had a bonus when using that weapon, but didn't unlock things like cleave unless you took additional feats. Obviously in 5e the feat system isn't the same, but I wonder if it could be unlocked for free at level 3 or something for martials. I'd have to try things and see what works). 3) In general, the overall power of PCs didn't seem too far from 2014 at this point, though healing is way stronger. It's no different to balancing for a larger party or a group using stuff like Tasha's. So I think pretty much any older module for 5e will work without too many hitches, though stuff like Rise of Tiamat would need adjusting. Conversely, the modules they ported over from older editions (Tales from the Yawning Portal, Saltmarsh) may run better with the slightly more powerful 2024 rules, as they were more lethal, and using the new rules will probably make them feel more like running a 5e module! 4) The books seem to be more clearly written and accessible to new players, second-language English speakers etc. Obviously WoTC are aiming a lot of things at new intake, but I like that it's clearer. 5) None of it is different enough for me to spend £100 on new books. I would, however, run in 2024 if players requested it (and provided access, and understood I'd have to look stuff up!). 6) These videos are AMAZING both for entertainment and for info!

Might mainly be that I'm significantly more experienced with the 2014 version and that I haven't done enough of 24 yet, but I'm mostly at the point of sticking to the old rules as the base and moving in a few of the newer ones rather than vice versa. I'm really glad that you brought up 5e (both versions) being super flexible for expanding with both major and minor homebrew being able to feel mechanically meaningful without being overly hard to track or balance. I really love these videos, and while I'm perfectly happy watching unedited games, the discussion you do parallel to it are nice for reflecting about the games you play

I’m running a game of Dragon of Icespire Peak under the 2024 rules with my friends, and it is requiring a couple of changes to make it work (eg: ability scores are choices and not tied to your background) but it’s working really well! They’ve already got overpowered gameplay (Druid’s wrath of the sea + spike growth = 5d6+6d4 damage a turn. At level 4. One setup action and beyond that, it’s a bonus action every turn.)

Just curious, how do they have their wisdom at 20 at lvl 4? (5d6 means wisdom mod is 5) Is that possible in 2024?
@Buunatic3 күн бұрын
@@frankiepineda9 its possible if you rolled for stats instead of point buy, cause you can roll an 18 then get a +2 from background
@frankiepineda93 күн бұрын
@@Buunatic ahhhh true, forgot that was an option!

@@frankiepineda9 I had them roll for their stats. 18 base after initial ASI, then at level 4 took the ASI feat for another 2 for a total of 20 wisdom Edit: that means that they rolled a 16, put a +2 in to wisdom as start, then took +2 wisdom from level 4 feat, as far as I remember Edit 2: Actually, I think they rolled a 17, put a +1 in wisdom so they could +2 another stat, then made it 20 at level 4

@@Perukids123 makes perfect sense! Honestly I didn’t remember because me and my players have never rolled for stats, we started with point buy and then forgot there were other options **blushes in tabletop embarrassment** I gotta see if they wanna try it out next campaign we play, change things up a bit!

This is the best fucking series!!!! Edit: I also thought that Backwards compatibility meant that you could play with a mix of both rulesets, so in my games I've been playing with both and just being really clear with my players which versions or changes to rules we're using. Also, I enjoy the ability to have characters be able to take the same spells but maybe the wizard has the spell from the 2014 rules and the druid has the spell from 2024 because it gives more reasons for the classes being raised differently on how magic works, and I think it adds more depth in magical world building. 😊

No. The characters are backwards compatible. But if you play with any 2024 characters, you are supposed to use the 2024 rules as a base. They specifically say it's not a good idea to try to run 2024 characters with the 2014 rules.

@ Thank you for clearing that up for me! 😊

I've always been a supporter of "keep what you like, cut out what you don't" with the rules, within reason of course.Like it's not a big deal to use 2014 Paladin and Ranger with 2024 everyone else, to make sure the whole table is having fun.

I'm excited for this because I'm running the shattered obelisk right now and we started with 2014 rules but switched to 2024 partway through.

I absolutely love the dungeon delve videos and I hope to see more in the new year!! I've so far really enjoyed dnd 2024, and I'm so so happy to see a video showing how it's actually used in game! I'm in the same boat in that some of the changes don't 100% vibe with me, but overall it seems just fine, and even though I'm a forever DM i'm hoping to play around with the new character changes. Also excited to see what the new monster manual brings!!!

I really enjoy how in the new phb and dmg they describe things more intuitively or in easier to understand ways. I love how when you knock out a creature they start a short rest. It adds a timer to them receiving healing. I also love how they changed exhaustion from the table to a more direct type of scaling with each level. Also, I love your content, you and everyone you work with does such a great job. I really enjoyed the little mini interview snippets with each player when something big happened. (this is also my first time watching a Dungeon Delve so if that is normal y'know keep it up.)
@ez_theta_z931717 сағат бұрын
yeah the new exhaustion is just so much better done than '14 exhaustion. i think i did prefer the playtest rules where it had 10 levels and reduced rolls by 1 per, rather than the new one which has 6 levels and reduces by 2 per, but eh. still good.

I picture the new sleep spell effect like something you'd see in a loony tunes cartoon. You get hit with it and stumble around for a bit with widdle birdies flying around your head before you fall down. You can try to run but can't get very far since you can't dash. So you might be able to put yourself in a position to have an ally or an effect give you advantage to break out but if you're in a bad position you might be screwed. Which just means I feel a little better about using it as a DM on players

Honestly at the quality and fun of watching these Dungeon Delve episodes. I wouldn't mind waiting at around an hour long and please break it up into parts if need be, I do kinda want to see all of it. It's gonna be really hard to sit down to watch an 8hr vod even broken up. I like the, "we tell you the parts that don't need to be shown and show the parts that are too good not to tell you" editing. As jaded as a Dnd player as I have become in running and playing you guys give me hope that I can still have fun with the right group. So I'll take whatever I can get of these DD episodes, even if I'd never play again and hang my cloak up for good, I'd still watch these.
