"treated for PTSD" the way he crumpled to the ground next to her, you can see even in that moment how traumatized he was that he did that to her, the fact that he got over that, and that she regained trust in him, that they continued to compete together, shows quite the bond.

One of the many reasons why a coach should always be present and watchful when pairs skaters are practicing spins or lifts is so that if they start to drift too close on a spin, the coach can warn them before either gets hurt. It can be difficult for the skaters themselves to judge whether they're too close. If it happens in competition, unfortunately, the coach can't really shout out to them.

A friend of ours was a Canadian ice hockey referee. He told us several horror stories about accidents on the ice!! When a team was practicing at the A T & T Center, a friend of ours was working, doing some rigging of signage around the seating. He fell from two stories up, crashing to the ice below, and fracturing his skull in 9 places. Because the teams always have ER docs with them, those guys reached him in seconds, working on him and savings his life while waiting for rescue. Our friend is still with us, thanks to them being there. Endlessly grateful to those men and women who work behind the scenes keeping people alive!!

I was watching the live broadcast of the last pairs team you showed. She was eventually taken off the ice on a gurney, and had amnesia about the fall and a bad concussion, headaches for many days, and severe facial bruises. She did make a full recovery, and her partner did have to get therapy because he was so traumatized, but also their coach took them back to the basics for all lifts, teaching them both to be absolutely precise when going into a lift, sustaining it, and coming out of it. I remember Peggy Flemming was one of the commentators during the broadcast, and you could hear that she was in tears because the accident looked so dangerous.

When I was an EMT in the '70s we were called out on a car accident on I-75 just south of us. When we arrived one of our doctors was working on a young man who had severed an artery or vein in his neck (forgotten which now.) The doctor had applied clamps to them, saving his life. He was one lucky young man. The doctor rode with us back to the hospital and stayed with him until we transferred the patient to Atlanta about 30 minutes later.

So, I finished eating and then resumed watching and I have to say I respect the skaters who continued to skate together after the woman was cut in the face with the blade. First, it's pronounced "Doobay." Second, you missed a couple big ones. There was a Russian pairs team that had a similar accident to Dubé's. They were doing side by side camel spins in practice and his blade hit the top of her head. She had to relearn how to talk, but eventually competed again. People said that her accent no longer sounded natively Russian after the accident. The second was an American pairs team where the guy fell during a lift and hit his head. He was pretty badly brain damaged after the accident. I think this one also happened in practice. He advocated for the use of helmets for pairs teams, but that never happened, of course.

I went ice skating with a friend in New York's Central Park. I had not skated for quite a while, so I was more than a bit rusty! My biggest mistake was letting go of the handrail, and trying to get myself aligned with the flow of the other skaters. Next thing I know my legs are up in the air, and I fell flat on my back. The moment my head hit the ice on impact I literally saw stars😵! I looked up, and there was a crowd of people circling around me trying to help me up. After my initial embarrassment, I got out of there real fast. My friend accompanied me to the ER. Luckily no serious damage was done. However, I had severe headaches for quite a while afterwards. I never went back on the ice....‼️😎🇺🇸 Loloud

Ice skating actually works as it does by using the triple point of water. Pressure from the skates causes ice to turn to water, so the skates glide more smoothly. Once the pressure is gone it quickly returns to ice.
