"maybe it's the desire to turn these videos into the perfect versions of what they could be that stops me from doing it, or maybe it's a lack of a deadline" I've never related more to a statement. Thanks for the inspiration Jesse.

SAME. I kinda have to give myself deadlines otherwise nothing gets done.... but then the realization that I MYSELF created the deadline sets in and then become okay with fudging up the deadline a bit for the sake of saving my sanity.

I feel that in most aspects of my life tbh. Taxes, car repairs, cooking food etc. I get super overwhelmed by knowing how many steps are involved and so I avoid it. When it comes to video making I have a pretty good habit of just recording anytime I'm going something, in case I may need it someday. I also rarely script or plan out my videos, so that helps... or doesn't idk.

but if you arent planning these things out, how do you achieve such continuity within the transitions and thought process? do you shoot videos like this during a moment of hyper focus? Planning out videos that Im making for myself sometimes is so draining for me, but if I know it will be seen by the public, I'll plan. @@JesseDriftwood

@@antirushdreamclub I'm sorry I never saw this question! I'd say like 5% of the time I'll try scripting a video, but thats usually just if I have a list of features or something I need to remember to mention, otherwise I shoot and edit the video simultaneously just constantly asking myself "what should come next? what feels right?" and then I smash my head into the keyboard for hours on end until it feels like I made it on purpose.

I resonate with those last minute thoughts of "this thing that is gonna cost us so much more time would make this video so much better." My brain is like " how can we take this to the next level" and I see that in your videos and I think adhd, at least in my experience practicing creativity, is the timbre that makes the voice of your content so unique

Jesse, the whole premise of your video is the blessing and curse of every creative, myself included. But, you did something today that is not just going tohelp you finish your videos, but you articulated what most of us struggle with every single day. And, you did it in a way that is inspiring in a way to help us go back and tackle our projects like this. Thank You. Secondly, for the same reasons I have seen you and fellow online content creators do, form networks, so that you each get to do the things you love doing, because in almost every case, you are going to find this wonderful puzzle-piece-like patchwork that will help each member do the part of what is needed that is holding you back, while you get to do the things that are holding others back. One of the greatest gifts during the Pandemic was a gift from both online content creators like you, but also the whole approach that Canadians tend to have with life - "just live it." Stop making excuses and find new and creative ways to push forward, and where Canadians really excelled during the Pandemic was in the way they inspired an entire generational moment to pivot life. I hope one day that there are documentaries made about this phenomenon, but until then, I am in awe, and deeply grateful for all content creators. You led creatives to places forgotten and unknown. Even in moments of hardship, you found ways to inspire. You also reminded us that the power of humanity is in the working together. Some of my favorite videos during the pandemic were when groups of content creators (from all over) got together to celebrate those moments when it was safer to do so. And, when it continued to bring you all together, we got to watch as creative minds fused and then we got an explosive dose of new creative inspiration and energy. That is the very best of humanity. It was not the products, or even the projects, it was witnessing inspiration, creativity, collaboration, resolve and re-inspiration, in action. As I wrote the above, it makes me more and more interested in making sure that story gets told. How many creators could be pulled together to do it justice? And, after thinking about it more, I am wondering if this would be an amazing project for the #Artlist100KFund challenge?

this video like most of the ones you make are great. The creativity, the sense of humor, the work, the script, the technical execution. All at a very high level, never doubt that you are a great filmmaker, it seems to me that the only thing you need to succeed is consistency and concentration, which is not easy. Courage and at some point you will have everything under control and as you want, it's just a matter of keep trying.

The timing of this video! I'm 30 years old, and after a year and a half of therapy, my therapist said she suspects I might have ADHD. If that's true (I'll be getting tested in the coming weeks), it will be one of the most liberating diagnoses I've received in my entire life. I've always been considered 'talented but lazy.' I've constantly heard complaints that I'm not utilizing my potential, that I lack ambition. I changed jobs every few months because I got bored. I dropped out of college - twice. Since yesterday, I've been listening to interviews with people with ADHD, and it feels like I'm hearing about my own life. If I indeed have ADHD, I'll be able to shed a tremendous amount of pressure off my shoulders, to the point where it makes me want to cry. I've spent my whole life being angry at myself for having a short attention span and not finishing what I started. BUT, let's wait for the diagnosis - so I don't turn out to be a genuinely lazy person :D".
@JesseDriftwood

I resonate so much with this! Getting diagnosed was so helpful for this very reason. I grew up feeling like all of these things were character flaws or moral failings, even when I knew I was trying my absolute best.

I feel like every creative needs a friend like Jesse...I struggle because I always have all these ideas and things I want to do, but I've been the wearer of so many hats in my productions/content that I enjoy when I can have other likeminded creatives be able to take on those roles that I often have to do along with (shooting/editing/sound design/etc) while I enjoy doing those things, I like to be part of a fully functioning team of people even if the team isn't big but I'm not the one having to do everything. I've always had friends and people I know that are down to help, but they lack the same passion and drive, and I feel more like they are doing it as a "favor to a friend" to "help me out" and less of they also want to see the vision in its final completed form. I know it sounds selfish to ask that of other people. I just wish I had more friends that were like, "yeah man, lets do this" when I feel apprehensive about starting projects I really want to see completed and released to the world, yet I'd rather scrap them, then to have me continue to do it all myself, I want to share to creative spotlight and wealth (well when that side of it comes :( ). Thank you for always being inspirational and encouraging Jesse...All without even knowing me. -Matt
