All you can find at BPI most of the time are 3.5”s... I bought their spin and trim and can now make any length I want. Not a bad deal, just an extra step in my process.

Make a mandrel that will fit snuggly in the hull that will go in the Chuck of your drill motor or press, to buff the brass.

Thank you Wade ! I went to the bench this morning after watching your video yesterday and brought back to life a bunch of grungy rusty range brass that I picked up this year ...20 ga Rio buckshot hulls... they now look incredible with a wire wheel and a slow rpm drill - wish I could post pictures ...(from Upstate Communist NY) best, Rob

I've been doing the steel wool trick to a whole bunch of 1980s Remington peters 2 3/4" hulls that I got a whole printer paper box full for the cheap from an older guy that was moving 👍🏼 works great

Excellent video...! In my experience... those burned end roll crimps are the result of over aggressive power roll crimping. When I use a hand crank roll crimper, it doesn't happen. Thanks for the video...

Everyone may not be old enough to remember, back when I was starting one of the reloading companies offered "case spinners " that were more or less tapered mandrels that fit in your hand drill, and you'd push the case mouth over the taper and spin the case and hold a wad of steel wool against the dirty case and it would polish out really quick. The fit with the taper would hold the case firmly and would easily come back off after you were through. I never bought any although I wish I had. I haven't seen them offered anywhere for a long time. Somebody with access to a lathe would be able to turn some out for any sized case. I can't remember if they ever offered any for shotshells , but I don't see why one wouldn't work

I have refurbished Cheditte shells like the one shown at the beginning the video. Get a 1/2” dowel and sand the end to about 1/3”. Insert the dowel and giggle it around until it opens the damaged crimp up as much as possible in order to be able to insert a1/2” socket wrench attached to a socket extension in past the crimp. I then use my heat gun (set at 500º) and rotate the casing around the socket. I find that putting the heat gun handle into my bench vise and turning the hull, softens the crimp and makes it round again within about 15 seconds. My “heatgunless” friend accomplishes the same result by holding the case of his lead melting pot. Not recommended. Wade, go to the hardware store and get a longer bolt for your spin n trim. Set it and no more "eyeballing" the proper length. Bolt is 6mm dia.x1mm pitch.

To trim 12 ga hulls down I use 3/4 pvc pipe cut to the proper length and use a razor blade cutting it flush with the top. The pvc will have to be bored out just a little to compensate for the brass. Happy New Year!!!

If you use the right schedule PVC you won't have to bore it for the brass

Wade, a bit of furniture wax on the shined up brass will stop it rusting. Ex duck blind hulls need to be 100% dry. Interesting that the brass is coated tin, not real brass. As the roll crimper warms up the edge before rolling, it is likely that the will go again without cutting them down.
