I can't get over how this is resonating with me right now... I'm so totally exhausted and overwhelmed literally every day - I've been feeling down / depressed about the state of everything (work, house, life...) and other than getting sleep that I SOOO need, I don't know what to do to recharge - these ideas are so completely fantastic! Thank you for sharing!!

Yes, Cas, I do this piddle cleaning, but only after your channel made this possible for me. After getting my house under control (decluttering and organizing that fits me...I'm a ladybug). So thank you Cas. I'm 45 and FINALLY have my home in state I can be proud of. If company showed up unexpectedly, I wouldn't be mortified. So thank you Cas.

I heard someone say recently, "Slow motion is better than no motion". I swear it is my new motto. I have spent too many years thinking I was failing if I wasn't full of energy and flying around, working. Doing something is better than doing nothing...which is what happens if I feel too overwhelmed.

This is exactly what I do (been at it all weekend in fact!) and I even call it "puttering". I always put my apron on, queue an audiobook, and just go one little task at a time. Theres just something about loving on our home this way that keeps my heart full and my attitude grateful.

I’m retired, live alone, have limited myself to only one volunteer commitment and one hobby…art. But still need that budget friendly “recharge”. 2 or 3 times a week I go to a local McDonald’s, take my pocket size sketchbook and spend a couple hours, just drawing whatever I want, have a small sandwich, sometimes visit with some other regulars, in general get out of the house, change of environment, relax with no expectations or to do lists. It’s nothing I couldn’t do at home, but the effect is rejuvenating. Cas this is a good topic, some people think it is frivolous, or criticize fast food nutrition, or whatever, but you nailed it. It is rejuvenating. That’s all matters. Thanks for the validation.

I can relate to everything you said about the go go go or absolutely nothing. I’m going to try your way. I put so much thought and energy into tasks like washing dishes. I would have KZbin, audibles, or music on but it isn’t the focus. I like the idea of focusing on relaxing while doing the task more low key. Thank you! I hope this will help because I push myself what seems beyond my own limits everyday without finding a way of refueling. I appreciate you!

You nailed it. I’ve been acting like a bear. Head for the bed as soon as I come home from work. Last night, I slept 13 hours. I have no zest since my daughter left for college. I hate empty nesting. What’s my purpose? So much to do around the house. No energy. I’m exhausted even though I don’t do anything. But the last 2 days, I have puttered. I cleaned my sink, washed the floor; tonight I cleared through a pile of paper. Would be great to feel like I had a full battery or to feel motivated.

Thank you Cas, you always make me smile and help me on my decluttering journey. I really struggle some days due to my body, I have osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia and a few other illnesses. Listening to today's video has made me realise that my battery isn't recharging. I have found putting my headphones on and listening to podcasts or you tube helps me get motivated. Also chatting to my friend on the phone with headphones on found me decluttering at the same time. Time was being used wisely. I appreciate all you do and say. You might like the book “Pottering: A Cure for Modern Life” by Anna McGovern. It's about this exact thing that you are talking about! A very relaxing read. “This little book is both a discussion and practical guide to the pastime of pottering. Author Anna McGovern writes with charm about the joy and practicality of living in the meandering moment, not asking too much of yourself and yet still getting things done in the gentlest of ways. This is the book for people who want to discover productivity at an easier pace, and above all the contentment you achieve when accepting that you can only do what you can do. Pottering is a true ode to slow living and an antidote to the stresses of modern life”

Another thing that helps me is "Taking a Step in the Action" which is a legal term. Basically, do something small or very small, towards the thing I want to accomplish, however low energy I have. Small preparatory actions every time I pass from that spot. It's amazing how they add up. This is a constant help, however imperfectly I take those steps.

I live with my parents and do most of the cooking. My dad lives on 24 hour news which I hate. I'm going to start wearing my semi-noise canceling headphones (cheap ones) and putting happy music on to make boring cooking more tolerable. I think I'll move some of the unused cookware to a hiding spot in basement because it's difficult to get to what I use because there's so much excess. Your ideas are workable solutions.

I would say it comes in waves where I'm more productive than other times. Other times sitting and reading a book hits the spot for relaxing. And I don't find running relaxing at all either. 😊

I'm not real sure either, but I'm pretty sure I used to do this as a single woman living alone. Chores never felt overwhelming and I never felt drained the same way I do now. I always assumed it was just the sheer amount of what increased after getting married but now I'm realizing that I completely lost my rhythm and turned it away from a cleaning dance party I did every Sunday and into resentful rage cleaning I did every time it got overwhelming. I'm gonna give different tasks a try ❤ I suspect I enjoy mopping when I take my time. I do know I like the satisfaction of getting a window or mirror perfectly clear and streak free. Yes!!! Puttering is the best! Listening while doing that right now. I'm the opposite of ADHD. I am OCD to the 10th power! BUT I am also an introvert, 57 and have Lupus! Talk about a reality check. I really treasure my putter time because I don't feel pressured to finish and if I get ADHD cleaning sydrome😂, it's OK! Progress is progress! Breaks are encouraged and I WANT to do it! I get my wireless ear buds on, put on a podcast and clean away. I adore doing laundry while watching movies! That's my ideal Saturday (ikr, I am a nut): movies, laundry done, meal and shopping lists made, dinner for at least 2 days in the slow cooker. It makes life manageable. My house is never terribly dirty, we always have dinner at least partially done (as well as stuff precooked in the freezer) & I get in am unbelievable amount of steps just going from here to there and always making progress! 🎉
