So when I was living in Tacoma, I had several occasions to administer Narcan, and I am so glad that I had the medication and knew how to use it. For anybody who doesn’t know Narcan is free at any pharmacy in Washington state and many other states, you can go to any pharmacy and ask for two doses of Narcan, and they will either give you vials in a syringe, which, if you administer that kind of needs to be administered into a large muscle, like the upper thigh or the butt, or they will give you an inhaler which is to be put in the persons nose and you just spray it and it goes automatically to be absorbed in their sinuses. If you can get the spray kind it’s much easier and much safer and you don’t have to worry about possible interference from the cops if they ever pull you over and search your car and find that they can Collett drug paraphernalia, but there are Also places that you can download a license if you will to carry Narcan in places like Indiana it’s required in places like Washington state it has not, but I’m having this medication on and save lives. I have personally administered it to more than one person, and one particular person more than one time and I’m so glad that I was able to so thankful that it even exists.

I should also add that during the time I administered the Narcan to these people I was also in active addiction. I was able to quit heroin, cold turkey, December 2, 2018. And I’m so glad I did. One of the people who helped me get Clean has since had his life stolen by a fentanyl overdose. Don’t take life for granted. Because you never know what day will be your last.

You can also go to the local needle exchange or harm reduction placed at the local health department, and they have Narcan that they will just give you and you don’t even have to go to the pharmacy

In the days after my son committed suicide, I experienced a profound revelation of the importance of every person and the reality of human frailty. I found myself saying repeatedly, it doesn't matter, when anyone had a transient concern. Because most things we stress about don't. Only each other. Love one another. It is what this life is, or should be, about. ❤

As a addict 20 months clean, I thank you for your compassion and understanding. Most addicts I've met are addicts because of trauma they've experienced and do not know how to cope with it. We tend to try to hide from it. I lost my dad in February to cancer, and we didn't find out he had it until the previous November. I spent most of this year terrified of relapsing because that's what's happened with every loss in the last 10 years, but in the words of Elton John, I'm still standing, so is my sobriety

A lot of times it takes more than one Narcan to help somebody. I have seen somebody need a total of 4 Narcan. It was a police officer who came in contact with fentanyl. It instantly hit him like a ton of bricks, within 30 seconds. He was wearing gloves so he must have breathed it in. Thank God he was not by himself and thank God his partner had Narcan.

I was a paramedic for 13 years in Canada and overdoses are a large part of the calls I went to. It's an epidemic everywhere. I have also had therapy for PTSD symptoms and EMDR is life changing! I highly recommend anyone who is struggling to reach out to services in their community. There are people there to help.

Yes! Great point. Sometimes the narcan wears off before the other drug can.. sometimes hours later and they need another dose immediately. In the hospital I think if they get narcan they have to be observed for 4 hours.

Where I live if EMS is called to narcan someone over dosing and they've been to that same person twice before, they can only do it one more time. So 3 times and that's it. If they're called a 4th time they can transport to the hospital and the ER can narcan them

Hi Kristi I normally don't comment but I just want to say thank you for caring about addicts. I'll be 53 and June 27tb was 3 years for me off of roxicet which basically they are 30mgs of Percocet. Thank you for making this video. What you did was a wonderful thing.😊 Not to many people would have done that. One of the reasons I adore you is because you're so real and raw. I'm sorry your going through a rough patch and I'm sending you so much love ❤ light 🕯️ and prayers 🙏. I know this is going to sound cliche but my life couldn't be better and I have a 17 year old daughter who knows everything and we have such a special bond. When I found out I was pregnant I was 6 weeks and I stopped cold turkey and it wasn't easy but I knew I didn't want my baby being born addicted. I ended up having her at 24 weeks due to an incompetent cervix and she was in the in the nicu for 5 months and weighed 1lb and 2oz and 9inches. She wasn't supposed to make it but she did and she's a senior this year and such an awesome kid. I always carry narcan on me and hopefully I'll never have to use it. My sister and her boyfriend just had a baby. Yay! The baby choked in breastmilk, had CPR done on him by my sister, and was taken to the ER. Luckily, he's perfect. Then they had to put their 16 year old cat down. But then when their son turned 3 weeks old, baby's dad went into the hospital and was diagnosed with cancer...the same type that killed his mom a year ago. My sister's milk seems to have dried up a bit while they were in the hospital an hour away and my mom was bottle feeding the baby. My mom and I were both diagnosed with Sjögrens, so we're reeling from all sorts of stuff going on. I think this is the first place I've actually listed everything that's been happening. The guidelines for CPR have changed, it's now just chest compressions. It keeps the blood pumping, getting oxygen to the brain, until paramedics arrive. It's especially important for drug overdoses, because if they injested it orally, you can become a secondary victim of it with a very small amount.

My parents were killed by a drunk driver in February, my brother died in April, i went into premature labor in May and my daughter had scores of health issues, the city fined us $2,000 for weeds in our yard in July because we were basically living at the hospital, my husband was laid off in August and our house went into foreclosure in October because the medical bills. That 12 months nearly killed me and I praise the Lord daily that he carried me through and gave me a support system that saw me going into a critical brain failure and did everything to get me help. For those who tried it and it didn’t work, I wonder how that therapist was and how they did it with you. I encourage you to give it a try again, but only if you’re ready. It won’t work if you’re not ready or if the tools you’ve been using to cope isn’t decreasing symptoms of PTSD/anxiety\depression or if you’re struggling to use those skills consistently. 10yrs sober here and am so thankful I got out of the opioid game pre fentanyl , I've lost countless people to the drug and work hard on my recovery. We keep Narcan in my house just in case. Its sad but this has been the case for awhile now. The last decade, actually over a decade opioids have been out of control.

I 100% love the realness on all your videos lately! Sure, upload that other more fun video. But don’t stop doing these types either. It really helps to come online and not see toxic positivity or just everyone seeming fine when things are crazy.

EMDR helped my sister after her son unalived himself. She and I both learned about it during our psychology college classes. It is definitely not woo-woo. EMDR helps with PTSD, CPTSD, depression due to trauma, etc, by helping to resequence memories. Sometimes, traumatic memories get stuck in our short term memory where they can affect us a lot, and do a lot of damage to our mental health. EMDR helps by putting those memories into the long term memory, where we can still access them, still look at them, but we don't experience the full brunt of the emotions that go along with those memories. I'm so proud of you, Kristi. Healing isn't linear. You are doing what you can, and sometimes, that's all we can do.

Just want to add for those who may administer narcan out there - be very careful to check your area is safe (no weapons), try not to be alone, have 911 on the phone, and be ready to jump away/run. As an RN I know many healthcare workers who have been assaulted/attacked after giving narcan

I too feel like the world is literally falling. I’m there too. I’m here with ya. It makes me wish I never had my child sometimes. But the truth is, I never lived before he was born. I need him to have a reason to live. I lost my first. When I saw your post on Twitter for the gofundme, it was like I was staring at my own photo from that day in the hospital. It was actually 3 days. And the way you described it was literally what it is. The worst literal gut wrenching experience you can imagine. The worst pain someone can feel inside their own heart. It makes me feel better when you retell your own stories. Helps me feel less alone. I enjoy being alone. But when we FEEL alone, it’s another level. Thank you kristi for sharing your stories with us. Especially when you don’t have to. It’s a privilege.

I only recently learned fully about dissociation, and that I did this consistently as a child. It’s why I turned to drugs and alcohol as a teenager, so I could separate from reality. (I’ve been sober 6.5 years) right now with the opioid crisis, we need to relearn the cause. Trauma is the cause, help the kids and the adults won’t be broken.

I really enjoy listening to you have these kind of conversations. I will sometimes come to KZbin to escape but sometimes it feels like no one else thinks the same way or is going through the same thing, so then to watch a video that’s literally so relatable and full of important conversations, it’s reassuring that your not alone and that these things are happening and though devastating it does bring a certain amount of comfort

My son is clean and sober 5 years (on July 30th - yes I count) after 10 years of opiate/heroin addiction. I still cry almost every day when I think about it. There are no words to describe how hard it is on everyone. You are not alone.

It's not negativity, it's real life. I'm envious of people who can leave behind the weight of the world. I know our parents went through some tough times, but they are the first to say it's a little extra crazy right now. Knowing every little thing going on I the world is not good for us. You're right, it's too much information, we are too connected. Sending peace and love
I FINALLY GOT HELP... WHERE I'VE BEEN.
