My grandson, like many young people, thinks that he is going to be a YT millionaire. Never mind his lack of skills at almost anything at age 17, he's sure of his success. So, I asked him what he would do to 'feed the cat' if YT was slow in picking him up? Feeding the cat is important because the cat cares not one whit what you do to earn your living or pay the rent/mortgage. She wants there to be food in her dish, and it is your responsibility to put it there no matter if you eat or not. John Oliver's stint at answering phones for a London gangster fed the cat. Many of us have taken jobs that may perhaps be below where we thought we ought to be while the world waited for us to become real wage earners. But the cat must be fed.
