I feel the athlete was not in his straight mind once his coach began to ask for a knockout. Karate is more grounded, slow... but also stronger (in my opinion). So, if the fighter began to let the heat take up the mind, he'd blind himself for the adversary movement. Most of the sweeps happened at the end, after coach starts yelling "Finish him". Before that, Akimoto was more aware of spacing and rhythm.

I think that Qiu timed the sweeps so well because he made the read that sometimes Akimoto's kicks were charged up for power, and that he often threw combinations in a left-right pattern, where the left or right punch was usually followed by its opposite kick. Awesome fight though.

In Kyokushin matches are framed as battles of attrition, with no head punches or an emphasis on traditional 10 point scoring methods the bulk of matches simply drag on until one of the fighters collapses from the body blows and can'tget back up in 3 seconds. Any high level Kyokushin karateka should be very used to getting the snot beaten put of him and simply standing up immediately.

All he was abble to do where those masterful sweeps, but that is nowhere near enough for a draw, because Akimoto was vicious with his attacks (specially the 1~2~kick, those kicks were brutal)

I'm sure he must be a sanda fighter, I recognised him sometimes going for a grab over the low kick with his foot planted rather than lift his knee to check. In sanda rules the Chinese guy would've done way more damage. Catching a kick and aggressively converting into a sweep/throw really exhausts the opponent

I really like Hiroki Akimoto’s style. He is aggressive but technical at the same time. All of his fight in One Super Series have been entertaining. He 6-1 in ONE and 26-1 overall, so he has a pretty impressive record and resume.

Akimoto was on the offense the whole time but he didn't really do much damage. He was basically just point sparring. I think its strange how they don't let you grab kicks. That leaves too much offensive freedom for a karate practitioner. He can just flail away and not fear any repercussion. Worst case, is he kets swept

With that much freedom, you could throw a barrage of off-balanced kicks to score points and not fear the repercussions of the openings you leave once you make your move. qiu jianliang is a typically sanda fighter. he always try to grab leg. in rules of sanda you can grab others leg and kick one time or just push them to fall. qiu always attempts to grab legs from hiroki's kick that's his natural reaction cause his sanda training.

If it were anyone else the fight would have been over in the first round due to Akimoto's combos. The sweeps set him off-balance but that was literally Qiu's only offense. Akimoto completely dismantled him as evidenced by the fact that QIu's body, head and legs were completely bruised up from the incessant pressure and non-stop combos AKimoto laid on him.

Took 2:53 for one of the sportscasters to finally comment that Akimoto is using a basic dutch kickboxing style tactic of 2-3 punches followed by a strong low kick. This was really cool to watch as Qiu Jianliang seems to have much stronger kicks as a kickboxer (and is great at using them to sweep and keep distance) and that helped in the beginning but Akimoto's (kyokushin/Dutchboxing) 2-3 punch/kick combinations, ability to check/eat sweeps&kicks, and constant pressure to be on the offensive even a little bit made this a solid match to watch. Qiu Jianliang's kicks are great too; it's really refreshing to see someone who can utilize kicking to do sweeps (Akimoto gets swept so many times but just keeps getting up) and use kicks to mitigate range and deliver them with precision and power. These guys are both really great to watch head to head. ^_^

@@mrgsudo kickboxing is founded by Kyokushin karate 7th Dan black belt, Kenji Kurosaki, by combining Kyokushin and Thai boxing, then introduced it to Netherlands and North America.

@@mikewallice2795 As my understanding The Japanese, American and Dutch kickboxing have totally different foundations, but all of them involving some form of Karate and Boxing, in the same way that Muay Boran added Boxing to generate Muay Thai. There are several videos covering this subject in KZbin under the name of "History of Kickboxing".

@@mrgsudo yes it is true there are differences, when Kenji Kurosaki introduced kickboxing to North American and Netherlands, there are some changes made of the kickboxing in each place. But it is still a fact kickboxing is introduced by Kenji Kurosaki, a Kyokushin 7th dan black belt.

I think the only thing missing from Hiroki's tools is a good jab. If he could use his jab more to set up his inside combinations and disengage he would be even better than he is now.

If its Muay Thai rules Qui would've dominated Akimoto, but since its Kickboxing rules Akimoto won because he landed the most clean shots

After that bad start it became a rather even fight. However I don’t see how you can get sweeped 10 times, not score any knockdowns yourself, and win.

You see Qiu left foot turn red, but i see that the right one is injured, I've watched Akimoto fight before, he's really great figher but for me this match Qiu was the winner, the tank in this match was Akimoto, Good job Qiu & akimoto👍
