@@joshraid1550 Ulver is everything, and yes, sometimes pop, like on Childhood's End. Those were basically pop songs in their original form, they just made them better. Nowadays almost all pop music is shit, and I almost can't even name any performer from the last maybe 15 years that had any good, memorable, enjoyable stuff. Or just something that doesn't annoy the hell out of me... Actually, Poppy made some good stuff, but that's all. Although I don't listen to modern pop much, as there are way better stuff to listen. The song length joke got me, and feels like a funny and interesting topic to discuss between metal and mainstream. Now there are parts of metal that still make short songs, but I've grown to adore how its common for many albums to have a few 10+ minute tracks, whereas I get alien looks from others when they figure out a single song is still playing past 3 minutes. I still listen to some pop, especially stuff coming out the poppier side of the synthwave genre, but its not the same from genre-to-genre. At some point the metal bands that only do radio-friendly songs in structure and length (like Disturbed) felt subpar for what the genre can be.

Honestly, I listen to metal (mainly thrash and melodeath) because it's fun and I enjoy banging my head, but it's also challenging music As someone with ADHD. When I hear a metal song it takes me a few moments to recognize that I heard that song (beyond the fact that I don't remember song names lol) When I hear a pop song I recognize it in half a second because it's not challenging (there are good pop songs) but most of it is just pure crap which does not require talent. To make a good metal song you need talent or hard work.

Even in this, obviously biased video, it is shown how it all really depends on one's taste.

Are these songs really pop though? Would've put them to rather to the deep/lofi house category (except for 3:51 - that one might indeed be pop lol XD)

pop genre is good (lemon demon, atarashii gakko, most pop from before the 90, hyper pop) but mainstream label slaves like: taylor swift, bts, justin beiber, ariana grande, black pink, etc just don't do it right

there is no escaping pop music, even if you hate it. its all around you.. in the store, on the market. teenagers play it. its on TV, on the radio at work.. its not underground. i quite like some pop songs. but most is trash.

You should try listening to Vokodlok. It’s a black metal band from my country, Romania and their first two albums are so good. You could also try Negura Bunget, also from romania. Their first album “Zîrnindu-sa” and their EP “Sala Molska” are perfect.

People play a pop recent song that all know, because it was on tv or radio. Me don't know the song, because no tv or radio. Seems Sensors and Intuitives, we don't live in the same world XD (MBTI/cognitives functions/16 personalities) I like metal, and certains Kpop bands. Love the sound of electric guitar and cello.
