@@jwalk31 90s and early 2000s was more rap prominent. Late 2000s and 2010s was more pop prominent, so if Nicki stayed rapping, she wouldn't be nearly as successful as she is, cause people wanted more pop and r&b. Plus, Nicki being a FEMALE was already a disadvantage in hip hop, aka, a male dominated genre. She did what she had to do to not fade away like other rappers.

People love discrediting Nicki's rap roots cause she's also a Singer and does work outside of Hip-Hop. Its sad how people would rather discredit her rap roots instead of praising a black woman for being so versatile. Such successful versatility isn't that common amongst many female rappers, so why isn't that being celebrated?

The fact that Nicki was able to become so successful during an era where pop was the dominant genre is insane. I remember watching the 2012 VMAs when she beat Beyoncé, Katy Perry and Rihanna for female video of the year and being shocked a rapper was able to do that. People clown her and drake for doing pop crossover but I don’t think rap would be the dominant genre today without their contributions. You did an excellent job on this video 👏🏽.

I think that's why she sees herself as a rapper first, singer second & overall songwriter. She can rap on ANY beat & still sound amazingly clear. To this day, nobody has her unique delivery, cadence & lyricism matched. She'll go down in history as a legend in music, purely on her skills, business sense & versatility. People like to downplay her or compare her to others when in reality nobody has occupied her position or can touch her broad discography. She proved you don't need a hard Hip Hop beat to be a rapper. You can do it on anything & still deliver bars. Nicki and Drake really ran so everyone else can walk. Their mainstream success as male and female counterparts is unheard of in their rap community. Thank you Lil Wayne for opening that door.

I disagree. For the past couple years hip hop/trap music took over and anything outside of that wasn't getting as much buzz. Take "Bed" for instance. Pop music is only recently starting to get big again

Byron Berlitz I mean that doesn’t really count. She talk-sings on a lot of songs (including Bed) but she doesn’t really SING anymore. Bed was more of an R&B song than a pop song and when I say crossover I mean where she’s doing it herself not where someone else is singing for her.

@@TimothyRichard12345 I think she doesn't like being ostracized by the rap community that's why she's rap-heavy nowadays. I wish she didn't care, she's so unique & talented that the industry doesn't know what to do with her anymore. This next album will be the album that cements her direction creatively & I hope it feels natural to her and what she likes as an artist. I think this might be her best work coming, judging from Megatron, Yikes & her other features. You can tell she's grown into her skin & ready to have fun with music.

She’s universes behind rappers like Andre 3000, Black Thought, MF DOOM, Earl Sweatshirt, Aesop Rock, Big KRIT, Mos Def or Common simply because she hasn’t made a project that’s anywhere near a top 200 rap albums, because you can have all the skill in the galaxy but if you don’t make a decent project out of that then you’ll never be considered legendary

Sucks, but its fine, cause not all icons have a no.1 hit. Queen Latifah, Foxy, DMX, Ice CUbe, Missy Elliott, Big Sea and Nas don't have no.1s either. Regardless, her top 10s, 20s and 40s have outsold many people's no.1 hits. I tried to do as much research as possible and found that Super Bass and Starships alone have each sold over 10m in America and over 18m worldwide. Chun Li jumped over 80 spots on billboard in 2 weeks, 1 of the biggest jumps in history and Nicki has 5 of the top 10 longest charting songs ever by female rappers with Super Bass, Starships, Anaconda, Moment 4 Life and Only, all of them having charted between 25-40 weeks on billboard. Nicki done sold over 120m records in America and over 300m worldwide and has almost 240 awards, 1 of the top 20 most awarded artists ever and is worth over $100m, the richest female mc ever and in the top 20 richest rappers ever, too. She doesn't need a no.1 hit or a Grammy either. She's achieved everything else.

I'm not a huge nicki fan by any means, but I think she kinda implemented herself in multiple genres besides hip hop better than a lot of other hip hop artists. Instead of just releasing one album that's fully pop or r&b, she kinda implemented those genres in her albums and featured in all sorts of songs from all genres. In that aspect, I think she's comparable to Wayne how she can feature on any sort of song and steal the show. Artistically, she's kinda like Kanye how she comes off as this crazy character that can bend genres
