When you go to remake the door PANELS, go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get you some clear plastic, and make your patterns off the doors themselves. You'll be able to mark exact hole locations for the retaining clips and screw holes, and you don't have to fight the shrunken and warped cardboard of the original panel, and you can also use the plastic as the vapor barrier between the door and the door panel.
@JrJohnston70

Forgot to add that the clear plastic I'm referring to is over with the rolls of carpet, it's usually used as a protective runner.

“I’m a mechanic, not a body guy.” Same. However, that didn’t stop my old boss from appointing me to replace all the rotted out metal in the shop’s 1976 Chevy K20 snowplow/tow truck during the pandemic quarantine when customer work was almost nonexistent. Now this is Wisconsin rust, it gets in DEEP and I ended up cutting out both rocker panels, the bottom halves of the front fenders, the bottom halves of the doors, bottom halves of the door skins, 80% of the cab floor, 2 of the cab mounts, and completely replaced the hood (Squarebody hoods tend to rust in the crumple zone and the hood bends in half when you try to close it). After watching a LOT of youtube vids, trimming and dry fitting the replacement steel, and buying some decent tools, the results.....didn’t suck as bad as I feared! My boss did the bondo, sanding, and painting afterwards and it looked halfway decent.

Dwayne your veiwer side quest participation, while Jared time-lapses gets my vote. I enjoy the occasional (foreshadowing, comment, or 2 cents) narration that creeps in to a video. Jared I'm looking forward to this project, I'll be doing a frame off rebuild of my 95 extended cab hopefully this year. New cab, interior swap, wiring, all of it. Just because I have a rust free cab I was given for the job.

16:39 honestly, i would've done both doors. And the reason is pretty simple. Once you acid prime the raw metal, you can put a good paint layer, something that's elastic and long lasting, then mask the contact areas and paint bed liner on the door shell. Which is both going to protect and negate sound without being (itself) a potential rust area later on. Jm2c

Good first skin Jared, you always start at the corners to stop the skin moving front to back and up and down on the shell because that scratches the paint off, a heel dolly is best to put on the outside of the skin whilst hammering to transfer all the impact back into the skin to keep it flat. If you can get aluminum composite sheet it makes great door card backing and it's not bothered by weather.

If you’re doing a lot of that invest in an air hammer. I used them in the sheet metal industry for turning 1/4” edges on (Pittsburgh) fittings. Made life a lot easier.

I am a body guy so I don't know why I sat here and watched you do what I do all day, but it happened. One tip: turn the door 90 degrees on the X stand. Those bars going across the door skin while you are hammering can put 2 shallow dents in it.

Plus all the challengers and third gen chargers! So sad but for those of us who grew up in the late 70s and early 80s knows that you could buy them cheap. I've even had people give cool cars to me just to haul them off. How times has changed 😕

You should get a hold of some of those rust n paint strip discs. They work much better than the wire wheel or flap disc. Plus painting over anything orange or brown rust looking isn't removing the rust but just covering it over. It'll continue to rust under pretty much anything including rust converters. Ask me how I know? 😉 New door skin was certainly the right thing to do to that door mate 👍

I liked track A the best. But I didn't dislike any of them so you're golden either way. Jared is one hell of a mechanic. I don't really like doing stuff I'm not good at which means I never get good at stuff that's not in my wheel house. Being a perfectionist also isn't helping... It's a shame and I'm working on it. But watching Jared tackle all these things really puts into perspective what people are able to achieve if you aim for "good enough" or slightly above. You might end up somewhere far beyond your initial goals. Sadly, we don't get that many muscle cars in Germany. They look rather out of place here which makes them very cool but also a magnet for all kinds of pleasent and less pleasent folks.
