I love these fluff/lore stories ^^. This one was told in the "Ere we go" Supplement, a whole sourcebook all about orks. In fact, the story of the gargants also describes how a Waaargh can spring into existens, from one single ork who is inspired by something and then it spreads and spreads. And it snowballs, cause when it spreads, Gork and Mork awake more and more and the more they awake, the more intense the drive of the orks gets. Orks also believe that Gork and Mork stomp around the warp as huge gargants and when an ork dies, they become part of the crew of those gargants. That is another reason why orks are not realy afraid to die, cause, well, after death, they join their gods in glorious, never ending battle, blasting and stomping everything in their path :D Gotta love them greenskins

On one side it's ork ingenuity (ancient technologic knowledge somewhat coded in their dna), on the other they don't copy, they crudely imitate. The problem is that, while not at all so advanced as a Titan, a Stompa or a Gargant(nevermind a Mega Gargant) is still a 20+ metres piece of heavy equipment moving toward you with guns the size of a short bus shooting like crazy, whirring chainsaw and the equivalent of a ballistic rocket embedded in it's claw, ready to fire at any moment. Yes, it's crude, it's not very precise, but boy does it make a mess on a battlefield.
