I divorced my family over 10 years ago. I tried all the strategies NOT to have to resort to that--it finally came down to just requesting that we not discuss these hot-button topics--especially politics. But they refused to respect that, and deliberately would antagonize me with taunting emails & mocking phonecalls. Visits with them were a nightmare. I finally realized that I was not a priority in their lives and made an exit. When my aunts/uncles/cousins would contact me, they told me what my family was saying about me--and of course my family cast themselves as the mystified victims. All I had to do was forward a one-word email from my sister when I had been diagnosed with cancer the year before. It read, "Karma". My parents have since died and no one notified me. I was left out of the obituaries. I have never met my nieces, nephews or siblings' spouses. It stings in the moment, but honestly, it's a small price to pay rather than have to endure their constant venom. I have since built my own family, made up of my spouse and others who have had to make similar choices. We spend all of our birthdays and holidays together and even though we may not agree on everything, we can laugh about it and love one another unconditionally. It's the family that I had always dreamed of having--and with all due modesty, the one that we all deserve. I am now cancer-free in all the ways I can be. Life is too short to waste on angry people no matter WHO they are, so I say if you want a great family, START ONE!

The "dumbing down of America" is a real concept that we are seeing the results of it now. I think real, caring, logical Americans need to be even better CITIZENS so we can overcome these extreme people who wreck our society. For me, it's the people who need to look in the mirror, find their center and help America find it's soul again. It was pretty well demonstrated during the 2016 election that his campaign (not him) tried to solicit information from the Russians but were so incompetent that they failed and because they failed no actual crime was committed. And soon he won't be much of anything, facing numerous state and federal charges, tax investigations and a loss of lenders and investors. Now that he is not president and did not try to pardon himself his near future looks bleak. Not the impeachment, that is a sham but his real legal troubles are going to be his true focus in the next few years. We won't see much of him I don't think after too long. It’s impossible to have a conversation with him that doesn’t lead to him repeating the same qanon rhetoric. He now thinks doctors are fake and stopped getting his medical treatments that he needs because of this, he thinks schools are all indoctrination centers for 80s style communism, he is so far detached from reality that I don’t think he’ll ever come back. My husband had to put restrictions on his mother’s network, phone and computers because the algorithms were starting to feed her this crap. She’s a lovely, caring, intelligent woman. Yes they did I am VICTIM They murdered my family, possessed them after and stole my inheritance and money. Then drugged my sister consistently until she ended up losing herself and was raped, beaten, abused, teeth knocked out, controlled and handled as a prostitute, and worst part of it all....she ended up getting 5 charges against her after they did this to me and my sister. This is hell. And if there is a God He fucking sucks at his job. God bless this world and people and government and all involved to absolutely the WORST disgracful POS they are. Amen

That part! I'm as mistified as the rest of us about how can these people believe in Q - trust every utterance or 'interpreted' statement from him/her (bc the followers are actually their own indoctrinators - they call themselves 'digital soldiers' - they look for clues online to what Q is trying to tell them - so really any thing their own mind comes up with is Q's utterances).....I also couldn't understand how could they blindly trust an unknown, unseen living being - w/o thinking maybe Q is the pedophile cannabil etc (after all, never seen em, how do they know Q's background?!)...but then when I thought about the evangelical piece - it's real easy that they could morph Q into a Jesus extension for themselves (it's like Q is whatever its victims make Q out to be - some Q devotees are religious, others arent)...... But in all this - since it's not a brick&mortar cult - the leader is unknown, unseen - hell, Q could easily be a group of pranksters or one lone loser incel in his mom's basement -- since there's no tangible person like Jim Jones or Rev Sun Yung Moon etc -- and all the devotees still live in their own homes, have their money and possesssions - the part of them being able to be controlled to the suicide end almost every other cult comes to -- I couldn't see it.. BUT -- look what they did already - they've killed their family bonds and relationships - some of them stormed the Capitol - some of them would've gladly executed govt officials that day too. So - yeah -- all this Q has to do is start talking martyr sacrifices by mass suicides -- and this daughter's worst fear is completely reasonable. Scary stuff....

Some guy just told us about his mom who fled to the woods because she thought Biden was coming after her. She had to be rescued and committed. It’s already gone too far.

I’m so glad my mom didn’t fall completely into this rabbit hole. I grew up in a Pentecostal cult, no TV, no secular radio, being told things like “Hell is full of good people” being preached from the pulpit simply bc being good was no substitute for saying the Sinner’s Prayer. It’s crazy because the most critical reason for her change was being stricken with a nearly life-ending chronic illness. She slowly went from hardline fundamental Pentecostal Christian who HATED Obama for no real reason (believed in the “Birther”/secret Muslim lies), voted for Trump; to a moderate Christian and Republican over the course of a decade. I think a huge part of it was her not being able to attend her radicalized church for years while dealing with chronic illness. The church eventually had a massive schism where half the members left bc they felt the church wasn’t radical enough. I spent thousands of hours talking to her during the time she wasn’t constantly around those church people, from my perspective: a non-believer and more center left person. By the time she started going back, she was able to see the elements of control that had previously been vulnerable too. She was able to see how she was brainwashed. In a very strange way, I’m lucky she got so ill for so long because I don’t think she could’ve come back from the path she was headed. No matter how much you come from a place of love, logic, and evidence it won’t do any good when someone places zero value on logic and evidence. They see those things as tools of evil and manipulation. The enemy of faith. Things aren’t perfect now, but she thinks Trump is a dirtbag now, she goes to church only for her own faith and doesn’t allow others to manipulate her into extreme beliefs, and our relationship is better than it’s ever been. I’m extremely proud of her for everything she’s gone through and that she never disowned me for being an atheist lol. I’m lucky, really. It is possible to help people like this, but in my experience it takes an extreme life event for them to be able to see reality from a different perspective. Much love to everyone who’s dealing with this. It’s a long game. It took me from my late teens until now to feel she’s intellectually safe and I’m now 36. Again, it’s a very long game. If you love each other don’t give up. Everyone knows their own situation though, so if you need to it’s totally okay to cut family from your life. You needn’t feel any guilt ❤️
