How much you wanna bet that piercer got fired. You go in and specifically ask for a hollow needle and pay, and she turns around and convinces you to use a gun and makes up stuff just to convince you to use it when she should know damn well how bad they are, when there should have been no problem with her just using the hollow needle. Honestly I wouldn't blame yourself too much, as a piercer she should know better, and of course you're probably going to believe a "professional" when most people would. I had my ears pierced with a gun when I was like 10 at a hair salon, so I'm lucky they didn't get infected. Glad to hear that your ear is ok though.

I think there is a high percentage of children in Australia who get their first piercings on their lobes with a gun (including me) it shouldn't be legal for anyone to have a piercing done with a gun, now that I have had many other piercings (all done with needles) I know the dangers of having it done with a gun and its hard to believe that children are having this done every day

The first time I got my ears pierced they used a gun and one side jammed. Not a fun experience for nine year old me! It seems to be a common issue, I can't believe that piercing guns are still used.

Thanks for bringing this up! I have double ear piercings;both were done with guns. The first piercings are fine but the second ones are very sensitive so I can't change up the earrings often. These were done over 25 yrs ago so guns were the only thing available in my area at that time. I have been thinking about some cartilage piercings lately so I'm glad I heard about this; if I do decide to get them its going to be with a needle!

I don't know about gullibility being the sole culprit here. I think there is a very real problem with piercers (tattooists, body modification professionals, etc) that disempower their clients, and push them around, just like that woman did to you. It's easy to forget in these dynamics that it is the client who sets the pace for the procedure, has the right to say no, change the direction things are going, and set the rules for their body. The only control the piercer should have (in my not so humble opinion) is their willingness to work with any given client, and be treated with respect for their person, their workspace, and their trade. (/rant) I am sorry this happened to you, and I am grateful to you for speaking up on this topic.

My Goddess!!! Please report that so called piercer. What a disgrace of a person😔 The way in which she spoke to you alone! Such a condescending manner. So glad your GP did right but you though.I remember having my ears pierced at about 12.Done with a gun and the backs were put on waaaay too tight. It caused my ears to swell and the heat and pressure was incredible. My Mother ended up taking them out for me.I still recall quite vividly the huge stream of blood that came from the first lobe when the pressure from the stud was taken off.The gun method should only ever be used with lobes and by someone who has been trained to use the device.I do hope you heal well, and wish you all the best.Excellent, honest video 💜💀

When I was younger and less experienced I had quite a few run-ins with piercing guns. None of those piercings healed around the earring, so I would always have to take them out and was left with a lot of scarring in my tissue. It's awful! I wish I knew about the dangers of the piercing gun back then!

Even though I had no bad experiences myself with piercing guns (my first set of lobes got done with one when I was like 3 years old) I heard so much bad about them that I really don't understand how they're still legal.. Hope this changes soon so that people don't have to suffer from experiences like yours anymore.

Yeah, I was lucky too. I have 3 piercings on each side of my ear done with a gun and all healed pretty nicely. I had my tragus done by a professional piercer and had to end up removing the jewelry because it just wouldn't heal. I had it for a little over a year and sometimes it looked and felt like it was healed then it would suddenly start acting up. I went to the Piercer and she said it wasn't infected it was more unlikely rejected. I don't blame the Piercer because I've gotten other piercings done by her that have healed nicely, I just think our bodies react differently to certain things.

I am a piercing apprentice. I have seen so many times, people coming in with nose piercings from guns that have gotten lodged into their septum because the rings they use don't have anything on the spiky back they use on the earring to push it through. It's just ridiculous the pain and possible problems people will go through to not even get a cheaper piercing, just to have it "quicker". In all honesty he piercing with a hollow needle only takes a few seconds. It just baffles me.

I had my ears and nose pierced with a gun. My ears I was 5, and I was alright for years until my teens when I developed this allergy to piercings, regardless of the metal type. I got my nose done at 16 when I didn't know about piercings, and it was okay at first but it just kept staying irritated and it eventually developed that growth you mentioned. I had to get it burned off. So now I just wear fake hoops on my lip and nose, where I've been pierced, but without the permanence and the worry of infection. I've sort of given up on the idea of getting pierced again, even though I miss the look of piercings, my body just doesn't take well to them.

ReeRee Phillips Oh wow, I'm actually glad you told me that! Because so far I've been the only one who got a delayed "reaction" and had to lose my piercings, yet people insist that I've just not found the right metal type, or the right piercing, or I didn't take care of it properly. I keep telling them that regardless of what I wore, my skin was inflamed. It got so bad that my lobes would "swallow" the earrings and the stud would disappear inside my ear. I've just not come across anyone who has been like me and sometimes I wondered whether it really was me being careless, but I'm happy you mentioned your sister too, because I feel less alone in my troubles!

Good on you for bringing light to this. I had a bad experience with a gun too but it wasn't as bad. I was 19 (I'm 25 now) and one of my friends wanted to get his ears pierced for the first time, and I decided that I'd go with him and get my lobes done for a second time. I think I knew at this point that guns were bad for other piercings, but I figured they were still fine for earrings because loads and loads of little girls get them done at Claire's or hair salons here, and I kind of figured that no one would allow all of these children to do it if it wasn't safe. What ended up happening with mine was I flinched in surprise when the gun went through, and it ended up sending the earring through at an angle and not to the back, so it was just the back like poking into my ear sideways. The most frustrating part is that the girl who did them either didn't notice or didn't want to tell me. I found out after inspecting it because it hurt so much later that day what happened. I learned later that they can't fully or properly sanitize these things, and it made me so upset that they have all of these untrained people using potentially unsanitary instruments on children and that this is so normalized.

Thanks for speaking about that on KZbin! Many people don´t know what damage piercing guns can do. I experienced it by myself at the age of 16 also on the ears. They healed up for 6 months, ordinary ear holes. After that I get every piercing done with a needle. Now I have 6 ear holes, the last 4 where done with a needle and they healed well, even the ones that had not only the skin pierced but also the gristle. They took about 3 months, which is normal, but I had no problems with them at all.

i currently have 5 piercings on my ears that have all been done with a gun. Standard lobe when i was about 10-11 months old, 2nd lobe when i was 9 years old, and a standard helix on my right ear that i got for my 14th birthday. i havent had too bad of experiences with my piercings but i've realized my right ear is more sensitive than my left. when i got my 2nd lobes shortly after the recommended healing time my right piercing got minorly infected and healed up after about a month. then when i got my helix, it was fine for a while, but later on i started to form a really sensitive bump on the back that would get crusty bits near the hole. i dont plan on getting more lobes as of now but ive been wanting to get my left conch done and i will definitely be going to a professional. when i got my piercings i was either too young to know any better or i didnt know the dangers. know i know, i will never go back

I had my first piercings done at 12, both lobes done with a gun. My left ear did well, my right ear the gun jammed and the stud ended up at a horrific angle. Almost flat across my lobe. That hurt a lot. Once the left one was healed, I waited an extra two weeks, took out the one on my right since it still really hurt, and repierced it myself by just pushing the stud through straight (I was 12, what can I say). It healed much better after that and the pain went away in a few days. My other two lobe piercings I did myself with a sharp thumb tack and a lighter (don't recommend, even though it didn't bleed at all, didn't get infected, and healed well. the odds aren't good). I was 18. Then I got my brow done by a professional piercer with a hollow needle. That healed way faster than my ears, even with my hair catching and pulling it a bunch of times and it being a cold Canadian winter at the time. It didn't get infected until now about 6 months later, and that's because I had pink eye from a chemical burn that then infected the piercing, but that's going away. Basically, I would always recommend a hollow needle. Didn't even feel the eyebrow until I was walking out of the shop. Such a better experience all around.

Had a piercing done through the upper part of my ear (cartilage area) with a gun. Painful as hell. Took about a year to heal completely, no pus though. Still iturns red as soon as I switch from ring to stick or the other way round. And within the first few years, it felt like someone put electricity onto my ear whenever I pulled the ring down a bit. I got my ears pierced earlier this year at Claire's and I would never go back. Next time Ill definitely get my piercings done with a needle. One of my earrings is fine but the other piercing got infected. It was red/purple, hot to the touch, pus and scabs (gross) and just painful and uncomfortable (plus I also got a very small bump). I also feel like the solution they give you just irritates it more. As soon as I noticed it was waaay past the time it was supposed to heal I got worried and looked online. I clean it with homemade saline solution and its been taking me weeks to heal. Its so much better now. Lesson learned: avoid piercings guns and cheaper isn't always better.

I'm so sorry to hear this story. The same happened with my ear but I explicitly said I wanted it to be done with a hollow needle (it's more expensive that way) and I didn't mind. i am glad you are not being hard on yourself for what happened, experiences in life are there to teach us and i thank you for teaching me and many others, through your video and sharing your experience (your experience teaches us all a valuable lesson or 2!) my piercers even the hair dresser told me, when i clean my piercings, to twist them around a few times each time you clean them as it apparently prevents the skin growing over them? no idea how true it is but i have not had any skin grow over my piercings and i feel when you twist the piercings, somehow, what ever you are cleaning the site with, can get into the piercing site better, i do not know how but for some reason, i will just surface clean then not pat the area dry, and will twist the piercing and almost "feel" some of the liquid going through the piercing site,, its gross i know sorry! :( also i NEVER use that spray they give you at piercing places like essential beauty, to cleanse the site, as i felt like it prolonged the healing when i used the spray it used to make my ears sting & like the ear lobes would even swell and burn! when i swapped to dettol and salt water solution (not together but i used detol on piercings outside the mouth & on the face and ears. and salt on the tongue piercing-for safety reasons)-also having a dodgy piercing gun and then the puss for what seemed like a long while, would prolong healing wouldnt it? (i did go to the doctor who just told me to continue with the dettol solution and to come back if it hadnt worked in x weeks which thankfully it worked and my seconds finally healed in like 3 months!-2 of which i swear was me over working the dettol solution to help prevent infection due to the puss coming out)

I had my bottom set done when I was a baby (because my mom wanted it done?) and I think that was with a needle. Then when I was in 6th or 7th grade, I'm an American I don't know if your school system is different like the UK, because a friend at the time got hers done too I decided to get my second set done. I got them done at Claire's. With a gun because I didn't know any better. The first ear wasn't so bad but it stung as something going through your ear does, but then in the second the lady said she HAD to do it twice since the alinement was off from when I was a baby? All I know is my holes often heal fast if I don't wear any earrings and they get lumpy while the side I had to get done twice has three holes all very close to each other. The original never healed up and honestly have less of problems with than the others.

i get this lump where the post from the stud ends, but i take the stud out and the lump goes within a day? like what? if i wear a hooped or semi hoop ear ring its fine except for some reason, shiels "Stirling silver" hoops, i got them ages ago, and i decided to change from my regular jewlery there, to a new one and when i put it in, almost immediately it begun throbbing and a dull ache, kept it in for 3 days as i thought i might have been rough taking the other jewlery out, but 3 days later pain was still there, took out the jewlery and the pain was gone in a few seconds! like what the heck? ive never had that happen even when i put a lobe stud into that piercing site-nor even with "cheap" jewlery from kmart, lovisa, colette, target, big w etc thing is, with my lobe piercings, i can wear stainless steal, stirling silver (which from memory is what my normal , you name it i can wear it but when i put that certain one in the cartilage (top of ear what ever its called) it gets like how i described above... i hope i make sense? (i have worn the shiels ear rings mentioned above in my lobes and they were perfectly fine, no irritation, is the cartilage/helix more sensitive or something?) ps i got it done when i was 18 or 19 and i am now 24

+DominosAndHearts You could have had an allergy to the metal. The best jewelry for sensitive ears is titanium, implant-grade steel, or glass. A severe nickel allergy is what got me interested in stretching my ears way back when, because it's easy to find in materials I won't react to. I like being decorated, and I got fed up with so-called hypoallergenic jewelry giving me problems. There are a lot more jewelry options now and you don't have to stretch your ears to wear the good stuff. Neometal threadless is an excellent option, but not the only one.

You're welcome! It took me a long time to learn that "hypoallergenic" doesn't even really mean anything. The earring post might be stainless, but the back won't be or something like that. Silver can have nickel in it too. You want 316 LVM steel -- that's implant grade. 316 is "okay" steel, but you really want the 316 LVM. Or titanium. If it just says "surgical steel", that's pretty meaningless.

I had the top of my ear pierced by a gun. I got a keloid and multiple infections. Finally, after a massive infection (that required antibiotics) the keloid went away. It also didnt help that I was naive and stretched it from a 1.2 to a 1.6 in one go... I was very naive but learnt quickly! Ive not had a piercing since due to this bad experience...

I got have 3 ear piercings on each side and a cartilage piercing done all with a gun. never had a problem with it. I had my nose and labret done with a needle. only my nose had a keloid which after cleaning with witch hazel it went away. I'm sorry you went through that. I think a lot also depends on who is doing the piercing for you and how experienced they are. No piercer should be trying to change your mind about the method you've chosen to use to get pierced

I had my lobes done as a kid with a gun at shop in the UK called Claire's. They got really infected and it was nasty... I was left in scarring in one ear. I got them redone at an actual piercing shop with a needle and i've had no problems. It hardly hurt either. I'd always recommend a needle :)

This has happened to me!! Got my ear cartilage pierced a few months back in claire's accessories. It was with a piercing gun and it's been infected since. It's gotten a lot better, but a huge lump appeared behind my ear and still hasn't gone away. I've been having lots of bleeding from it, and also tons of bad headaches :/ Not good!

I had my ears pierced once with a gun, not knowing the effect it would have. After a while I noticed the piercing on my right ear was moving. It got to the point that us was a couple millimeters from the edge of my earlobe. Knowing this was not normal I let them both close up and I have never had them pierced before. I still have scars from it and the scar on my right ear is almost on the bottom of my earlobe.

I had to pierce my lobe (first hole) three times because it infected, the third time i changed place and it didn't infected, and so the second and third hole in both lobes... all with the gun. This year i did two helix in both ears, at a piercing shop, with needle... and they infected, expecially the left one... i don't now if i neglected about healing or if my body tends to reject them

omg i had my seconds done at a local chemist and they were the WORST to try to look after, like i swear the piercing got infected and it took 3x longer to heal (like it had PUSS coming out of it or some white crap) and i should have realised after the lady done my seconds peircing on one ear, that it was going to be bad, as the piercing "gun" made the sound it does when you click its trigger" BUT i heard the spring shoot back seconds after the gun trigger was clicked and the innitial "pop" of the piercing gun going off, was heard its hard to explain how it sounded, but yea that put me off chemist piercings for a while! id rather pay the $20+ for lobe (other piercings are like $50+ depending on what you want) piercings at a place like essential beauty rather than a chemist ever again! (at the chemists you just pay for the jewlery-well thats how they have done it with me) (i didnt realise hair dressers do more than ear piercings-i got my cartilage or what ever the top of the ear, piercing is, done at a hair dresser and surprisingly it was one of my few piercings that heeled super fast!-and it was with a piercing gun, yea i know its supposed to be done with a needle but i was super impatient and had the money at the time and i trust the hair dresser i go to as i have been going there since i was 17 or 18 so i thought "why not" never regretted it since, i do not regret any piercings except my tongue piercing lol just because it kept getting caught on my teeth so it got annoying but other than that i loved all my piercings, sadly i had to take all piercings out for mri scans one day and i had a fresh nose and tongue piercing that i didnt get back to essential beauty in time to get them put back in, so i am down to just 4 lobe piercings and one helix piercing. but i am planning on getting my nose re done asap! actually might do it in a couple weeks if i have the time! )

my piercing gun experiences have been in jewelry shops, they seem to know more about piercing ears. But I've only been there for my ears, obviously. I plan on getting Industrial and I'm not getting it done with a gun! Anything more complicated than an earlobe or single top cartilage piercing on your ear definitely go with a HP needle. Most tattoo shops in NYC do good work, look on YELP to be certain. :)

I had a local store in the mall do my two cartilage piercings with a gun... I don't know WHAT I was thinking, they took forever to heal and the top one was sore for over a year. Eventually I got sick of the pain and having it irritated that I took them out. I still don't know how they are allowed and from experience with other piercings, guns are more painful than hallow needles. Hoping with time they will maybe be outlawed especially considering at stores like where I got mine done, there are not many requirements to become an ear piercer... Just ugh. BTW, I adore your makeup. Just subscribed tonight and already love your videos! :)

I had my second lobes gunned at I believe Piercing Pagoda, and the woman doing it told me to leave them in for six months. I believed her, and when it came time to change the jewelry, the studs were practically adhered to my skin. It must've taken at least an hour of blood, pus, and crusties to extricate them from my ears and get new earrings in. I had pain on and off for about six and a half years, till I hit upon the idea of minor stretching. That pushed out the damaged scar tissue, and when i lost interest in the minor stretching project, healing new tissue grew back. It was an unbelievably healing experience when I finally got my thirds done almost 20 years later, properly, with needles.

I had a similar experience with my ear piercing, I also blame myself as I didn't even go to a proper piercing place, instead I went to a local chemist to get it done which my friend had insisted was good. (I was very skeptical, but I trusted her at the time and it just so happens we're no longer friends due to other issues) I'm also thinking of having a septum piercing done soon, hopefully I can find a good piercer in my area and this I shall do extensive research so that I don't go through what happened last time.

When I was 13 I got my helix pierced with a gun in a jewelry store and honestly I thought it was the most painful piercing ever. I almost got sick from the pain and I had to take it out after a few weeks cause it just wasn't healing, it kept oozing and crusting over. I've had 17 piercings so far, all other ones were done in a tattoo shop with a needle and I've never had anything like that happen again. Seriously, don't let someone use a piercing gun on you.

When I was younger, there wasn’t much information about this and I had many ear piercings on my lobs done with the gun. Just about each and everyone for infected and had a keloid. Not to mention that the swelling that comes when it is done wrong is not made for the studs they use so it only makes it worse and the skin can grow over the piercing. I spent many days with my mom having to treat my ears with all sorts of antiseptics, keloid removals, etc. I don’t like guns.

all three times that ive gotten my ears pierced they used a gun which is the basic way to get it done and my first two (age 4 and 9) were perfectly fine. but a few weeks before christmas i got my third hole done and its been the 6 weeks they said to leave the earrings in for, so i switched them out with other high quality earrings bought from a piercing booth and i took one out today to clean it and my ear started to bleed so i shoved it back in and it still hurt after the 6 weeks. I took them out anyways because i wanted my fourth hole done so i did that myself with a hollow needle on one ear but dropped it and it fell down my sink (just my luck) for the second ear so i just shoved the earring through the way a gun would and my right ear just hurts so much more than my left (the one i pierced with the needle) but its been like that since i got my third hole done. My grandma even tried to convinve me to pierce my cartilage with a gun DX

What you had was called a hypo-trophic scar, keloids are permanent scars unlike the first which goes away. Hypo-trophic scarring can be caused from many things such as friction, incorrect jewellery size, bad quality jewellery or incorrect placed piercings (along with a few others)

I literally had the same thing when i got my seconds done in October! the gun got stuck and i think ripped the back of the hole a bit. It didn't heal, had a keloid on the back plus it was bleeding and somewhat pussy (sometime worse then others) till the day i decided to take it out four months later, very sensitive and sore ... I wish i had known about the problems with guns before i had gotten them done, it explains some past problems i have had with piercings (have had my firsts pierced 3 times since i was little, always assumed it was the metal - I'm hypoallergenic - but this makes more sense) -___-

Bad experience wise...I had two done in the same ear at the same time with a piercing gun just above the floppy part of the ear lobe. Extremely painful, months later still not healed. They were red, swollen, hot to the touch, etc. So obviously infected but I kept the jewelry in trying to save the piercing as I have issues with metal sometimes that causes issues. (I have to wear gold post that are longer than standard as I have wide ears and regular metal of shorter length I react to and swell more from lack of proper airflow.) Went camping and was knocked into a pool where both earrings were partially ripped out from the weakened skin and had to be removed, disinfected etc. Several more months of pain and the infection finally cleared up (from antibiotics I was using the day after I got back from the weekend camping trip). Luckily only slight scarring in the cartiledge. Infection wise though was the second worst I have had with piercings. First was from a normal style hollow needle type when I went to get some more personal ones done. Was young, and dumb, so far as going for a walk in and not checking the shop's reputation first. Started the piercing and the guy w as a perve...no gloves...flicking and blowing on the body part (adding bacteria to the site he was going to pierce), then piercing at wrong angles and position and hitting a blood vessel that was visible through the skin beforehand and bled off and on over the next several weeks. Called after the first couple days with the extreme amount of bleding and pain and was treated like a week lingerie and brushed off. Went to my doctors instead.. and it was a staph infection...in my breast...from this idiot piercer. I learned to check on the people and shops I went to after that and no real issues since. So think it boils down to either way can be bad with a bad piercer, and as a customer, should check on who is doing it and go with gut instinct if it seems odd.

I got my industrial with my best friend. I was anxious because I hate needles so I got mine peirced first and then she got hers peirced. The girl completely messed up on mine and peirced it twice. It felt really hot after it was done and my friend said that I was bleeding a lot! When my best friend laid down to get hers done she got it one swift motion. After she finished peircing us we were all smiling and laughing. She called us "badasses" and then she admitted to us it was her first time doing industrials. Needless to say, I got a keloid and it never healed right. I constantly cleaned it hoping the keloid would go away. Paid $80 for nothing! I was so livid I couldn't go to the store to make my complaint because I knew that I'd lose it and yell
