There were people stealing, taking drugs and robbing people all the time because it was legal then...people ALWAYS think that everyone is worse today, but that's not really true. You just feel that way. There is graffiti from ancient Rome which complains that people were not as moral as they used to be....nothing really changes, some are good, some are not, it's always that way, it's just that you notice it more as you get older...

She was making the point that the thieves have no idea what it is they're stealing and, in some cases, it could lead to life-threatening consequences, for the victims, if stolen. You won't die if you don't get your PS5; but a person depending on their insulin, oxygen, heart medication, anti-rejection meds, anti-seizure meds, etc. might. No one wants to see you have your belongings stolen. But, while it may be a hassle to replace your sunglasses, clothes, electronics, jewelry, etc., at least your life will not be in jeopardy in the process.

I've already run off a couple of pirates because I have a gun and not afraid to use it. I have meds and supplies that can't be replaced until the next month. Stealing mail is a FEDERAL offense and I wish the courts would prosecute with more harshness

Packages delivered by a service aren’t considered mail. Stealing mail is only a federal offense if it is from the USPS. While it’s ridiculous that they don’t get jail time, shooting people who steal a package is beyond ridiculous. If you have proof it was stolen, the insurance company will work with you. In august a pharmacist stole my pain medication, billed the insurance, and tried to lie about it. Then roped a tech into saying they remembered me picking it up because I paid with a $50 bill. A) I can’t drive so someone else always picks up my meds. B) that someone is my daughter. C) there is no video of either of us coming to pick up the meds at the time it was cashed out. D) neither of us ever carries much cash, and certainly not large bills. The insurance paid for the prescription to be replaced. They reported the pharmacy to the appropriate authorities and both the pharmacist and tech were let go. I hope charges were pressed but don’t know.

Someone stole my package from my daughter I adopted. Her adoptive mom took Iris to this painting class specifically to make the picture for me. I never got it back, I know they probably just threw it away as unwanted garbage but that gift would of meant everything to me… they took something priceless and broke my heart 💔 they could of ATLEAST brought it back when they saw a little girl painted it. Totally can understand. I had a child in 2010 who passed away shortly after birth. I only had very few photos the hospital took of my baby. I kept in a special box with ribbons. Someone broke into our house, stole several items and destroyed various things. One of the items missing was my box. I'm sure they took one look at what was inside and threw it away. They were all I had of my baby. People can be heartless.

The "lady" was pissed that I had disturbed her, telling me to "just leave it on the porch" before slamming her door in my face. Nice. Here in the Netherlands, they don't leave packages in front of your house. It's usually delivered to a neighbour who keeps it for you (and you get an official mail/form telling you at which house it is) or they bring it to a local point where you can retrieve it. So no porch pirates here, thankfully. Seeing this type of footage just makes me so mad. What kind of person are you to do this kinda thing? And even to neighbours?

Maybe knowing that driving the thief may result in getting shot. But instead they are openly told that they will not be investigated. So we are left with no options. I’ve had mail reportedly delivered but no package is in my mailbox. I live in an apartment and there are lock boxes for stuff that’s too big tho they also can drop large packages at the office. Last year there were four in a row! I finally called the post office and complained. I had tracking info on all of them but they just kept saying it was delivered until I raised a huge cow. They “found” two of them in the back of a mail truck, they said. Two were just gone.

Hilariously I’ve had passers by call the police on me at least twice cuz they thought was stealing packages off my neighbor’s porch. I had to explain to them and the police that the packages I was taking actually were mine. My house is located behind hers and you can’t see it from the street. I worked for a Manager Care Organization (MCO) , we handled medicaid, Medicare and commercial plans as well as prescription claims and filling of prescription since the company was also a mail order pharmacy. We had people call several times a week claiming their packages were stolen. I felt so bad for the ones that were not approved for replacement. For the ones that were replaceable, they had to go to a retail pharmacy to pick it up. Some of these people did not have transportation which is why the opted in mail order and would get 90 day quality for most medications

The third-world nation I grew up in dealt with theft by cutting off the hands of thieves. We’d hear a thump at the front door, and when you opened the door, the guy would bend his head forward to drop his cap on the stumps of his hands; reduced to begging, for theft. Personally, I think that would be an excellent alternative to our present system, which scarcely punishes even those caught in the act, and it would have the added benefit of deterring others.. and of course, there’s always the zero percent recidivism for those so punished.

So far, no one has bothered to take anything from my stairwell (4 condos) due in part to it being far from the bigger streets that border two other sides of the complex. My neighbor had something sitting outside his door for over 2 days. No one touched it. Surprising since our complex isn't gated.

Ha, the Cortez Brown story is a classic. Too stinkin funny. Hopefully, he’s changed his ways since then. Personally, I think the financial penalties imposed should equal the amount of the stolen goods plus taxes and interest and delivery charges that the homeowner had to pay in order to receive the packages. And on top of that should be a 50% penalty paid to the Town or County. All packages should have to be returned or the thief would have to fully with interest, compensate the victims. And then the jail sentence should equal the amount of time a minimum wage worker would have to work to earn the full stolen amount, not including when they’re off on evenings and weekends. If the victim is caused any trauma, the value of their loss and recovery should be added to the pirate’s sentence. And while in prison, they should have to work for the lowest legal wage in order to compensate their victims and pay their penalties in full.

Kid screamed like a little girl, flung the package, and took off in a dead run. I pulled a muscle from laughing so hard. The package? A baby doll for a little girl my mom often babysits.

I’m so glad we have a mail hub at our complex but if the packages are too big they just leave them there. They don’t even bother with your door. Amazon,UPS and Fed Ex do it! We have cameras that help but anyone who doesn’t live there has access to all sort of stuff.

That last one was the best: thief gets robbed, seeks police help, is apprehended for his own crimes. The one where the thief was injured during the crime scared me, because I assumed they would try to sue the homeowners. I don't think we've ever had a package stolen, but have received someone else's packages before. Just glad I was familiar enough with the owners that when we delivered it, they wouldn't think we were stealing it lol. My parents ( who live in a cove at the end of our street ) had so much trouble with prescription delivery - IDK if it was lost, stolen, or misordered - that they had to give up on that.

I will admit that I'm a little out of the loop. I live in a massive condominium complex with about 6,000 condos and they have serious gated entry. So this snatch off the porch thing doesn't happen here and I didn't realize that it just goes on everywhere! I am absolutely appalled that these people just drive around get out of their cars go up on a porch and steal something. Have we really sunk that low in our morals as a nation that we don't realize that this is theft and in some cases Grand Theft? Same with these homeowners don't own a pitbull that happens to be just around the corner of the house. Would the same people that steal stuff off of the patio also break into the house to steal? I am absolutely appalled at the number of people that think that this is something that's okay to do.

I think only a small percent of porch pirates would actually break into a home to steal, but it does seem a "gateway" crime. Because most companies and delivery services (in the US) have very liberal replacement polices for "lost mail", I imagine most people consider poaching packages a "victimless crime" with little risk. No weapons needed, no skills, very little thought/planning, it probably seems more of a prank than a crime to the thief, and the rewards? Well, everyone loves to gamble on a surprise lol. It sucks, but I don't see an end to it any time soon.

My number is'nt private but I can imagine if someones was, and printed in plain sight for all the world to see. Victims have private numbers for a reason. Pretty Scary..
