The defeat made her lose her main goal, which she announced early on, namely to remain undefeated. Accordingly, she lost much of what she was ready to fight for. She also lost sight of what she had achieved for women in the UFC. But by now she will have recalled that into her mind. At least that should be enough inspiration. Each of us has weak moments in life and none of us tries to inspire others in these phases, but just to find a way to get out of them. With the second defeat it was completely over because she couldn't even see it as a one-time slip. Because she was at the top in the long term, defeats hit her harder. She then set herself new goals, which in her eyes were worth fighting for again. You don't have to like her behavior, but how hard she hits defeats and how she deals with it is up to her. In this case too, not all people are the same. You don't choose how hard something like that hits you, you just feel it.

When she was talking about how she had suicidal thoughts after she lost to Holm - that's because she attached her entire personality to the idea of being a champion. The best was never good enough for her. So when she lost, it genuinely shook her psychologically. in her own words from that Ellen interview, "if I'm not this, what am I?" She may have played up stuff for the camera, but I've no doubt after her reaction to being asked about her losses that she was at least 75% percent sincere, and actually a very fragile person, in a way.

I must admit I loved it at the time and watched the fight over and over. It was mainly because Dana and everyone else was saying she could box Floyd Mayweather and easily defeat him with one hand behind her back. After the lost to Holly, I felt that Ronda's team didn't really analyze her lost, what were her strengths, what were her weaknesses? On the next fight there were many times she frozed, it felt like it was a sign of lack of confidence and adaptability. That is the issue with always winning, you get complacent and you expect things to be easy, and adaptability goes down the gutter.

Her downfall was before the Holm fight. Ronda was done when her sparring partners were told not to hit her in the face so it wouldn't get in the way of her modeling and endorsements. At that point, training became secondary to the hype machine. You can't half ass train for professional fighting. Add to that Edmond was a horrible coach who really knows nothing about fighting and you see why she didn't evolve with the sport. Had Ronda switched up her training, brought in a legit striking coach and forgone some of the media circus....the TV show and movie cameos.....she could have beaten Holm and probably been competitive with the likes of Nunes and Valentina.

Fighters like Holms quickly analyzed her strategy and adapted. Ronda and her trainer on the other hand, weren't worried, didn't analyzed Holly Holms fights. And as time passes you'll get opponents who are READY for you. Same thing might happen to Amanda Nunes. That's how Good Champions upgrades the challenges and the levels of their sports. That also why she shouldn't and can't come back. Ronda's corner underestimated her opponent's hunger while Ronda was losing herself with pride and arrogance. Except Conor McGregor is actually good. His striking and takedown defense were good enough to keep from getting taken down by grapplers and beating them in the stand-up. Ronda wasn't that great and fought way lower-tier competition than Conor. Notice how Ronda Rousey never fought Cris Cyborg or Gina Carano (the best female fighters at the time). Even Holly Holm was picked because she was expected to be a walk in the park. Conor fought good opponents at 2 weight classes and only lost to other outstanding fighters who could stuff his style. Khabib was the best grappler at lightweight and extremely dominant, Nate Diaz is a tough brawler with excellent cardio and high-level BJJ, Dustin Poirier is a great striker on par with Conor. The best opponent that Ronda fought with was Cat Zingano, and even prime Cat Zingano would get pieced up by the top 8 bantamweight females today. Ronda was a can crusher because the UFC wanted to use her as an icon. They knew she wasn't good enough to fight women with tangible skills, so they never signed Carano and pushed for women's featherweight for Cyborg.

Everyone who knew the sport kept BEGGING put her up against a legitimate striker who can keep distance not just grab or clinch. I remember watching UFC with my dad when Ronda was dominating and telling him that someday, one or two better fighters will appear and knock her off her throne. It happened as I said, so badly that she was beaten and then in efforts to regain her title, was beaten again and then she left. Credit to her for what she's done, but this is why it's important to be humble. You're not as big as you think. I say this knowing full well that Ronda will kick my a** any day of the week.

Ronda Rousey was a prime example of why female mma isnt where it needs to be. although she could throw a punch almost all of her opponents lost to arm bars in the first minute, even when these women saw she submitted most her opponents with arm bars they still couldnt protect against it. When she finally faced someone who could actually strike Ronda's lack of actual fighting skill was on full display, and when she fought nunes it was clearly obvious ronda lacked any actual fighting skill outside of "i throw them to ground and pull there arm"

She felt that he was filling Rondas head with smoke and had her convinced that she had evolved into an elite striker. Sure, Rondas striking was improving and it worked fine against girls like Betche Corriea, who isn't an elite striker and Sarah McMahon, who was more known for her wrestling. But true elite strikers like Holm and Nunes proved Ronda still had a lot of work to do in the striking department. Unfortunately it was too late. By then Rondas coach had her convinced she could bang with Holly Holm. It's not a matter of "She couldn't beat Holm" is just that she _didn't._ Not on that night. For one, it's a fight and anything can happen. Especially at that level when you're talking about the top of the division, every fighter is dangerous. You want proof go watch Matt Sera vs GSP 1. All it takes is one mistake and any fighter can get the win at any given time. I don't think it's impossible for Holm to submit Ronda either. If Holm ended up getting in the right position and Ronda got too careless i could see Holm sinking in a choke. Is it likely? No, but it's not impossible. That's why i get annoyed when people speak with such certainty that Ronda was some hype job. Sure, Holm has a way better chance standing up the same as Rondas chances are way better in a grappling exchange. But at that level of MMA it's not impossible for either fighter to finish the other from any position. They all train in every area of MMA. Just look at Nunes vs Holm. Holm is the more technical striker with championships to prove it in boxing and kickboxing. But it only took one mistake and Nunes caught her. Not because Nunes is more technical. Because Nunes is a very powerful striker and Holm made the first mistake. Nobody says _"Holm was a bum. Everyone knew Nunes would expose her."_ Because it's not true. Holm is a great fighter just the same way that Ronda is a great fighter. They all just have different skill sets with different strengths and weaknesses. They've all proven they have what it takes to become champion. I'm actually a fan of all 3. I just don't get why there's been this trend with fans where you have to talk down about the loser. Why can't people respect all of them? I get it if you don't like Rondas attitude. If you don't like Ronda just say it. But to me it just seems asinine to discredit a fighters skill just because you took something they said personally. It's childish to me.

I'm not saying Holly didn't earn her belt. As a matter of fact I actually called Holm to beat Rousey way before she signed with UFC. She scored a head kick at Legacy back in like 2013. I remember the announcers talking about Holms boxing and kickboxing records and I was like "Oh crap, if she can learn to wrestle this might be the woman to take out Rousey." See, I was a Rousey fan even before the rest of the world knew who Rouesy was. Even back in 2013 Ronda already looked untouchable after her first fight with Tate in Strikeforce. That's when I took a mental note of Holm. I thought to myself, if a pure striker like that can learn to wrestle she could be Rondas kryptonite. I'm not just some casual fan screaming "Ronda is strongest woman ever!" I'm a true fan of the sport and I understand it very well. That's why I get frustrated when people say "Ronda not on her level." As if it's DragonBall Z and everyone has some imaginary power level or something. And if your power level isn't high enough then you lose. It's frustrating for a true fan of the sport listening to casual morons discuss MMA as if they have a clue. The worst part is there are *WAY* more clueless casuals who don't even know they're ignorant than actual true fans who have taken the time to learn about MMA and know what they're talking about. It's like when someone says "Holly Holm is a bad bitch." Sure, that's true. Now can you tell me way, why? "She just a bad ass bitch!" 😆 Casuals can't even tell you why a fighter is good. They can't even tell the difference between clean and sloppy striking. Holm is a badass because not only is she an elite level boxer/kickboxer but her takedown defense is so good that she can force most fighters to stand and bang with her because they can't keep her down. Also her cardio is through the roof. She can move in and out picking you apart for 5 solid rounds. Not every fighter can do those things and that's what makes Holly special.
