When Ronda Rousey Was Humbled! Full Episode From The TDB Network..
Recap:
At a time when Mixed Martial Arts needed a star to carry the torch after the departure of Georges St. Pierre and the back to back defeats of Anderson Silva, the UFC turned to a woman to lead the promotion.
Ronda Rousey, a former Olympic bronze medalist in judo, became the UFC’s top star from 2013-2015. She won the Strikeforce bantamweight title in 2012 before being promoted as the UFC women’s bantamweight title following the Strikeforce-UFC merger. After that, she went on to have the one most dominant reign of any MMA champion, male or female. She was considered as the baddest woman in the planet.
But as they say, nothing lasts forever. On November 15, 2015, Rousey defended her title against Holly Holm in front of the largest crowd ever in UFC history at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. It was supposed to be just another easy outing for Ronda but a high kick to the neck floored Rousey and ended her dominant three year reign as UFC women’s bantamweight title. What followed was a serious period of depression that led to her contemplating suicide at one point. The loss was so deflating that Rousey made herself scarce to media and to the public eye for one year. Then she made her highly anticipated return against the woman who held the belt that once belonged to her.
But instead of getting redemption, Ronda Rousey got smoked by Amanda Nunes in just 48 seconds. She was unable to land a shot nor take Nunes to the ground. The Lioness dropped one powerful punch after another and gave Ronda Rousey her second straight defeat.
She later retired from the sport of MMA in 2016, got inducted into the UFC hall of fame then decided to make a run in the WWE.
Ronda Rousey hasn't competed in the WWE since her loss at WrestleMania 35 in April 2019 but seems to be enjoying life away from the limelight..

@@GabrielS94 she got to where she is now by not being humble and talking big and backing it up until someone shut her down. She’s the reason why there’s a women’s division in the UFC in the first place. That’s how you get to the top. Look at all the humble women in the division now. They couldn’t sell half the tickets she could. They don’t have the personality to do it. Like her or hate her you can’t deny the impact she made, and there hasn’t really been anyone that has risen to her level as a star. I disagree. She was a real fighter. She was really good but basically collapsed mentally after the Holly Holm fight. And just for good measure, Nunes sent her on her way for good. Her mind was no longer in the game after the Holm fight but if she were stronger mentally, could have made an amazing comeback. I don't think she would have been on Nunes' level, but certainly could have been competitive. Unfortunately, despite all the good she did, she is looked at as a cautionary tale in the history of mma. A massive rise and a massive fall.

@Clif Diggz for sure. Her striking was exposed big time. As was her ability to adjust and wrestle. She let holly lure her in only to get punched in the face so many times that I lost count. I honestly believe that if she changed her training/trainers and her head was in the game, she would have had continued success. I still don't think she'd be able to stop Nunes though. that bitch is good.

@Vulcannon
@Vulcannon 2 жыл бұрын
@@SalilRawatSaxena Such a defeat hits perfectionists harder than others. That one defeat is never to be undone, and it is an eternal eyesore on a current flawless career. The defeat made her lose her main goal, which she announced early on, namely to remain undefeated. Accordingly, she lost much of what she was ready to fight for. She also lost sight of what she had achieved for women in the UFC. But by now she will have recalled that into her mind. At least that should be enough inspiration. Each of us has weak moments in life and none of us tries to inspire others in these phases, but just to find a way to get out of them. With the second defeat it was completely over because she couldn't even see it as a one-time slip. Because she was at the top in the long term, defeats hit her harder. She then set herself new goals, which in her eyes were worth fighting for again. You don't have to like her behavior, but how hard she hits defeats and how she deals with it is up to her. In this case too, not all people are the same. You don't choose how hard something like that hits you, you just feel it.

@@GrimReaper-uu2sq I know this thread is old now, but no, people seriously do go around thinking that. When she was talking about how she had suicidal thoughts after she lost to Holm - that's because she attached her entire personality to the idea of being a champion. The best was never good enough for her. So when she lost, it genuinely shook her psychologically. in her own words from that Ellen interview, "if I'm not this, what am I?" She may have played up stuff for the camera, but I've no doubt after her reaction to being asked about her losses that she was at least 75% percent sincere, and actually a very fragile person, in a way.

I really enjoyed following Ronda Rousey during her career. The trick is when you are on your way up, it is just your style vs. their style. But when you are No. 1, everyone trains to defeat your fighting style. They focus on you more than themselves. At the top, everyone is custom-built to defeat YOU. And inevitably, someone does.

Ronda's biggest chance of coming back to reclaim her spot was a rematch against Holly but unfortunately Holly lost the belt immediately after the Ronda fight. Also Meisha lost the belt right after she got it to Amanda. Amanda was just too much for Ronda. Ronda never had to face Valentina or Cris cyborg who were also better than Ronda. She really stood no chance of reclaiming her spot and realised that after Amanda defeated her in less than a minute. The problem with Rhonda was that when she was the reigning champion she really WAS the best in the women's division. But then all the other women started getting better than her while she stayed at the same skill level. She didn't expand her moveset and thought she could go on forever relying on Judo Throws and the Arm Bar Finish. That Nunes fight made me sad because they said Rhonda was working on her striking, but she had 0 head movement in that fight and it made her chin such an easy target.

Jim you hit the nail on the head. I completely agree that she was/is a great athlete. Her trainers should’ve focused on developing mental toughness in a way where she could get better from adversity instead of letting it crush her. Tons of storylines of athletes who had that disappointing defeat but then came back better than ever. She totally drank the Kool-Aid that was freely distributed that she was the best ever. When that harsh up call came, she made a beeline out of the UFC.

I seriously believe that Ronda Rousey was trained, even groomed, and maybe even raised to have the mentality of a bully. She loved the hype train and to talk herself up and other people down, then just mentally folded as soon as she lost. She should be a cautionary tale for fighters, and, despite disliking her ego while times were good for her, I feel very sorry for her because I think she was let down badly by the people around her. I wish she had changed her team and tried again, rather than quitting, because she was/is an unbelievable talent

After the lost to Holly, I felt that Ronda's team didn't really analyze her lost, what were her strengths, what were her weaknesses? On the next fight there were many times she frozed, it felt like it was a sign of lack of confidence and adaptability. That is the issue with always winning, you get complacent and you expect things to be easy, and adaptability goes down the gutter.
@androlibre9661
@androlibre9661 2 жыл бұрын
Her downfall was before the Holm fight. Ronda was done when her sparring partners were told not to hit her in the face so it wouldn't get in the way of her modeling and endorsements. At that point, training became secondary to the hype machine. You can't half ass train for professional fighting. Add to that Edmond was a horrible coach who really knows nothing about fighting and you see why she didn't evolve with the sport. Had Ronda switched up her training, brought in a legit striking coach and forgone some of the media circus....the TV show and movie cameos.....she could have beaten Holm and probably been competitive with the likes of Nunes and Valentina.

Ronda was a gimmick, she did UFC a favor by making female MMA huge but when the "real" fighters started coming in, her time was up, she did her due diligence.
@jaxthedisintegrator8096
@jaxthedisintegrator8096 2 жыл бұрын
@@-smabros-4723 I strongly disagree !!! She did fight Real fighters. But she was on borrowed time with her trainer. She brought Judo in MMA wich was highly overlooked back then. Those fighters weren't not ready for that. The problem is that, she didn't evolved. Her trainer and her own ego made her believe that she could boxe, or even kickbox like a pro against the pros. Fighters like Holms quickly analyzed her strategy and adapted. Ronda and her trainer on the other hand, weren't worried, didn't analyzed Holly Holms fights. In fact I don't even think they watched her fights. At the end of the day when you are champion, you become the target and enemies are watching your every steps. And as time passes you'll get opponents who are READY for you. Same thing might happen to Amanda Nunes. That's how Good Champions upgrades the challenges and the levels of their sports. That also why she shouldn't and can't come back. Ronda's corner underestimated her opponent's hunger while Ronda was losing herself with pride and arrogance. Reminding me of what's happening to Connor McGregor right now. She is/was talented, but beside the bad management, her time has come and pass.
@michaelellis772
@michaelellis772 2 жыл бұрын
Except Conor McGregor is actually good. His striking and takedown defense were good enough to keep from getting taken down by grapplers and beating them in the stand-up. Ronda wasn't that great and fought way lower-tier competition than Conor. Notice how Ronda Rousey never fought Cris Cyborg or Gina Carano (the best female fighters at the time). Even Holly Holm was picked because she was expected to be a walk in the park. Conor fought good opponents at 2 weight classes and only lost to other outstanding fighters who could stuff his style. Khabib was the best grappler at lightweight and extremely dominant, Nate Diaz is a tough brawler with excellent cardio and high-level BJJ, Dustin Poirier is a great striker on par with Conor. The best opponent that Ronda fought with was Cat Zingano, and even prime Cat Zingano would get pieced up by the top 8 bantamweight females today. Ronda was a can crusher because the UFC wanted to use her as an icon. They knew she wasn't good enough to fight women with tangible skills, so they never signed Carano and pushed for women's featherweight for Cyborg.
