For me it was the short lived baggy scene and stone roses that started the progression into shoegaze influenced by 60's and rave and electronica of the 90's Brit pop became its own animal resulting from patriotic British originality of the last of British music creatives a stark contrast to today there is literally a different landscape today of British based musicians and creatives trip hop was the last extension of all these subcultures in sound that emerged. The 90's was such a melting pot of experimentation of music and was literally the greatest time for music that influence is still felt today. It's so good and refreshing to see a channel that ventures into this genre it is like a needle in a haystack to find people still interested in this retrospective movement. Im still lost amongst it today. Thanks for the trip back in time. Even the goth subculture was thriving during this time which influenced a lot of bands sound and visual and sonic appeal the scenes and subcultures were somewhat silently appreciative of the music that was coming out at the time.

Amazing video!!! I resonate with it deeply as a nobody bedroom electronic shoegaze producer; I make Drum & Gaze music, much like what's mentioned in the later part of the video, and it's heavily inspired by many of the artists shown in the video, specifically Coaltar of the Deepers, Ulrich Schrnauss, TURQUOISEDEATH, to name a few, but mainly Supercar, and the original mikgazer album. If I had to name a single electronic shoegaze release that I love, it'd be Futurama by Supercar, it's the one album I would bring with me to a deserted island, it's such an amazing listen.

Another band exploring a similar sort of territory as Seefeel around the same time were Insides. Their ‘93 album, Euphoria is well worth checking out. And in 2002, a band called Guitar released an album called ‘Sunkissed’ which combines shoegaze and electronica really beautifully

Great video! Many bands I love, several I need to check out. Curve deserved more attention here - from the start they backed their shoegaze guitars with heavy dance beats. Also, small correction: the reverbs used by even the first shoegaze a bands were digital, though in those days they were bigger rack-mounted units not pedals. (Catalinbread's recent Soft Focus pedal is modeled on the Yamaha reverb used by Slowdive.)
@ThreadBomb2 ай бұрын
This is true. Even the Cure used Boss digital delay pedals live, from very early on. (And of course what we think of as the "classic" MBV sound uses a digital reverse reverb.)

really good video! another track i want to point to a potential reader of this comment is global communication's remix of slowdive's 'In Mind' ttiled 'In Mind - Reload Remix (The 147 Take)' which you can find on souvlaki's deluxe edition. It is genuenly one of my absolute favourite electronic tracks, combining slowdive's dreamy instrumentations and vocals with ambient techno beats and synths. Bliss captured in sonic form.

Shout-out to Silvania, a Peruvian/Spanish band from the early nineties. A prime example of shoegaze meets electronica. Their 1993 release En Cielo De Océano is one of my favorite shoegaze albums. On their following albums (Paisaje III, Delay Tambor, ...) the influence of electronics becomes increasingly greater, until they eventually become a completely experimental electronic band. It's sad that a main band member (Cocó) was the fatal victim of homophobic violence. Curve was a shoegaze-combined electronica band from the start. Worth mentioning is of course SPC.ECO, a shoegaze/electronica group with core duo Dean Garcia (of Curve) and his daughter Rose Berlin. Anyway, great documentary. I have a lot of listening to do!

I was looking for somebody mentioning Silvania before posting, they were amazing! On a slightly less electronic but still Peruvian side of things, worth mentioning the mid-2000s output of Resplandor.

I thought the band Curve blended shoegaze and elec. better than most. Should do a vid on them.
There are 5 Seefeel studio albums, latest released in August this year...... Quique is pronounced 'keek'. Please read some interviews with the bands mentioned before making your videos & please try to put some intonation in your voice & slow down! Its not a race....
@goldentony11111 күн бұрын
I agree. There is a promising base there but it's poorly researched and any chance to shoehorn in AR Kane is always taken. Seefeel wasn't the only casualty. Depreciation Guild and Ulrich Schnauss were also mispronounced....it's like they don't hear the names of anything ever said out loud and just read stuff online. Look up bands online, do bear minimum research and then post. Some of the acts mentioned are atrociously off topic too.
@ThreadBomb2 ай бұрын
The narrator mispronounced "depreciation" - it's not "deprecation", it's dee-pree-shee-ay-shon. This isn't really shoegaze, but I found it interesting: a dance remix of early Cocteau Twins song "Blood Bitch", using stems extracted by AI. It's impressive but I wish the guitars were louder. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGG0fWuFjKqebK8
