I really hope single moms do not think like him, to introduce your children to a stranger that you don’t even know what the future brings absolutely not. I will never introduce my children to someone I’m dating, unless there’s a ring on my finger, or a conversation about it. Children also get emotionally attached to the other kids or to the person that you’re kind of dating so it’s not fair for them to put them through such emotions unnecessarily.

I think in some states they make you wait 12 months in case you reconcile. Also, to make sure the wife is not pregnant at the time of the divorce, as it affects the final settlement.

I followed that same advice. Became a single mom when my son was 5 although, I did date at first, it became clear that would be a mistake. No sense in creating more chaos in his life. It ended up being the best thing I ever did. Focused raising him to become a great young man that I proudly say was a success. He’s 23 now and happy. I, however, am still single because I love my life the way it is. Turned out to be a double blessing. Choosing your kids over dating is never the wrong choice.

That is what my mother in law did. She is a smart woman with the biggest heart. My husband and his brother were 10 and 8 respectively when she divorced their father. She never brought anybody home for 10 years, she had male friends but never anything serious. She started dating when my husband and his brother were 18 and 16. By then they were happy for her when she started dating

My parents divorced when I was too young to remember it, and I’ve never felt that is scarred me so deeply… I think it’s more that there are joys of having parents who are together that I’ll never know. But I also don’t know what I’m missing out on anyway? It’s probably harder for kids who are aware of the whole separation/divorce process as it happens.

My ex left me the end of 2021 and filed for divorce. The divorce & custody was finalized summer of 2022. I am so busy with work & my kids that I have barely even put a thought towards dating, let alone introduce anyone to my kids. It takes time to recover & find the parts of my personality sacrificed to make my (ex) spouse happy. He needs to spend time with his kids, learn to be ok being single & do the single parent tasks, which is everything. Otherwise he's just letting his soon to be ex wife continue to carry the mental load. That's what this sounds like to me because I'm too busy taking care of my kids to be infatuated with anyone...

I’m having a hard time with this guy. Divorce for something so fixable. Putting his kids in hell when there was no abuse and dating before he was officially divorced. This guys ridiculous. Something I've learned is that people who give very neutral reasons for divorce are choosing very carefully what they are not saying and don't want you to know how awful it really was. Not in every case (I can't speak to this specific case), but way more often than you'd think

Mr. Delony knows his stuff. This was very good advice - regarding the kids and regarding the new relationship. He said something like if he would have had this deep communication (which is now required with his new girl friend) with his ex, the marriage could have been saved. That depends very much on the substance of the marriage, in my opinion. I'm a fan of good, clear communication - but there is still more. But of course, there could have been substance - and just misunderstanding (and now everything is fine with the new girl friend, because she just happens to fill what was missing in his marriage - and what would have been his task to fight for within that marriage) ... also possible, there was just no substance... depends

@Catherine I was a little child then. She fell ill soon after so she really couldn't date anyone until she got better. She had a few relationships after I moved out but they were toxic. I didn't speak to her for 10 years because I needed to work on my own issues. We've been reconciled the last 10 years and it's been a great relationship with lots of forgiveness and stuff. She's 65 now and her man now is 47 and he treats and spoils her like a queen. So, yes I'm happy for her to finally be happy with a decent person even this late in age. I don't know how he keeps up with her lol she is full of life.

I personally think that having to wait a year before a divorce is final is actually a good thing. Unfortunately, my state doesn’t have that I think it gives time for people to reflect and see what it’s like, being separated from that person, and possibly living on their own, and looking back on the relationship and see possibly what wrong and maybe do some amends and perhaps decide to stay together, people head toward divorce quickly because either something happened or somebody’s a little hotheaded it gives a cool down.

I'm girlfriend number 3. He introduced his last girlfriend to his kids after 6 months dating. He moved the mom out and she had to move in with her mom and the girlfriend moved in. They then celebrated one of the kids birthday together and the mom of his kids got the girlfriend alone and started on the manipulation. The girlfriend left and the kids were heart broken, but mom was back in her place. That was about 4 years ago. I met him 2 years ago and he's not introduced his kids to me which are now in their teens and I'm actually fine with it. I'd love to meet them, but if this is not going anywhere then why the unnecessary drama. I have my own place, job and income and no kids. As soon as she found out he was dating again she put the thumbscrews on him. So now we've just been meeting up in secret, but she knows about me, but I think she thinks I'm not in the picture and she succeeded manipulating me away. Not sure if I could even handle 3 kids if I met them, let alone these adults acting like children. That's what happens when you're codependent and need to stay with your spouse for financial and other reasons. They have a pretty large family too that adds to the keeping up the status quo pressure. Last thing I need is lies and drama of being accused of messing with the kids or whatever else she or his family could come up with. They all live in separate houses on his mother's property in Alabama. People go missing in swamps and hog pens in Alabama 😆. Like, I would love to meet his kids...but then again I'd rather not. Well just keep it going this way for the next 5 years and they're all 18. I came from a single mom situation so the last thing I'd want to do is alienate him from his kids. I have much respect for him providing for his family and I support him emotionally in doing so. I'm 44 and I've lived my life, I have no needs really so whatever money time or affections should go towards the kid...and her...if it keeps her happy. He's a truck driver so he only goes home once every 3 months for a week or so and he calls home daily etc. We drive on the same route so I see him every other day and on the weekends, so it's not like I'm taking time away from his kids by being with him. He's already really not home much. I don't think there should be pressure about meeting the kids. It might be a bit awkward to explain to them later on how I was in the picture all these years but now, but that's on him as the father to decide. So far I'm content with the arrangements,but I also don't have kids so I wouldn't quite know how to judge any of it and it's not my place...I'm not trying to be bonus mom or step mom or anything, but if I was invited to contribute in any way I would embrace it. My main concern is his health and wellbeing out here on the road because he also suffers from ptsd and depression and he says the mother of his kids is diagnosed bipolar depression. I'd be depressed too, being in a situation where I am being lied to on a daily because I wouldn't let the man go and be in the relationship he wants to be so I rather have him lie about being with another woman. I don't really like being the secret, but if it keeps the peace...sure thing. When we first met he had me on a secret three way phone call where he had his parents in the background and was telling him about his unwillingness to make the relationship with her work out. His dad sounded really supportive and his mom blew a top. His dad passed away last year. Seems like all the women in his family are super controlling and manipulative. I just hope his mom doesn't clench down on him and makes him the emotional incest love interest husband father substitute. It's a possibility there too. I'm just here for the man 😆 not for all that cray cray.

Reading the comments here brings me a lot of insights from the situation im currently in as well, very similar to this caller. Except im the soon to be ex wife. I tell my kids that im glad daddy is happy. And truly i am happy for him, that is how much i love him. I can't force someone to love me, i wish i could be everything he was looking for and financially successful but then would he truly love ke for who i am nd not just for money and security. As much as i shield my pain, regrets and embarrassments, i know its not all about me nor him & whatever "rockstar superhero" hes with, Its about our children and their well- being. I don't think im bad looking and have been asked for my number ssoo many times (im flattered by the way what can i say) but im not ready nor are my children. Im just here in the background making sure my children get the love and attention and important life skills they need and will continue to need of me, their mother. I live with the fact that at the age of 36 with 4 kids under the age of 12 ill wont have my good looks for long but if there is in this planet a man who will love me for ME then im okay and im destined to be alone then im okay with that too. As long as my kids r happy and well
