I just put revolution gear and axle 4.88 on my Jeep JL from the stock 3.45 on 35's and honestly it was not easy and took me longer than I care to admit but my god it was totally worth it! I don't want to do another set of axles anytime soon but I'm so glad I did it, she shifts like factory, use 7th AND 8th gear on the highway and overall shifts better and gained back all the low end I lost with the taller tires. LOVE IT!

In Arizona my tj was on 33" tires with 5.13 for az rocks. I could start in 2nd gear in daily driving I eventually went to 35" then to 38". I chipped the teeth on the rear ring one time but Yukon warrantied it. Still paid for labor to install though, as would be expected. It was great for it's usage although i liked it better on 35"than the big 38" it manuevered lousy with stock steering with the much larger tires on the trails. So then i went to upgraded ram assist with PSC power steering pump, then lengthened wheelbase by cutting the tub and moving rear axle back with long links. It's s downward slope. For my jl Rubicon i plan to keep closer to 4.88 at most and 35" (2 dr).

JTR with the stock 4.10 and have 37’s and I think it’s fine for what I use it for (over landing, light off-roading - NO rock crawling). I couldn’t justify the cost of changing them for such little improvement (I have driven JTs with 4.88s). Most of my driving is on pavement since it’s my DD and mostly flat around here.

I drove a JK Sahara with 3.73s, 35s, the 3.8L engine, and the manual transmission for 2 years. Climbing the I70 hill to go up into the mountains sucked and required 4th and sometimes 3rd gear just to stay above 50 mph (and the RPM was up in the 4000-5000 range). 5th gear required to maintain 75 mph in any kind of wind or slight uphill slope (3000 RPM). It was fast for hardcore rock crawling but okay for normal trails. Next build phase would have been axles/lockers/re-gear. But since my use was mostly on-road or easy off-roading so I couldn't justify the cost and I wanted a 4-door vehicle anyway. Instead I got a JT Rubicon, and for now I intend to stick with the 4.10s on 37s. It'll be a few months before the wallet recovers enough to get the lift and tires and test it out though.

Alexander Rigda If going from 32s to 33 inch tires in a JK Sahara or Sport with Highway gears then you will be ok...for the most part. If that same JK is going 32s to 35s it will be prohibitive. If we are taking JL or JT then you can get away with alocstock up 37s on JTR for mostly highway.

I just got 35’s and I’m not seeing 8th on the hwys. Do I need to regear or stay where I am? I do not rock crawl. I go trail riding once or twice a year at best. Does going to 4.56 get any mpg back? I’ve lost 2 mpg but I knew that might happen. That does not really bother me though. CJ Offroad, please help.
@DimplesChild401
@DimplesChild401 Жыл бұрын
Regearing is your best bet. 4.10 is good enough for 33’s - 35’s. Any tires between 35’s-38’s would hit all gears including 6,7,and 8 better with a 4.88. 4.88 will allow the 37’s or 38’s to still ride a feel like a Stock Jeep. Whenever you go up in tire size, you will lose about 2 or 4mpg. I’ve learned to just take it easy on the gas pedal and to keep my speed down. Besides high speeds kills parts faster and wear out tires quicker anyway.

At the moment with 3.73 if I see 8th gear is with the wind at my back. My mpg is honestly better in town. On the hwy it's shit. I understand, and agree, about the MPG loss and that is fine. Will 4.56 or 4.88 get my torque back or at least be able to run a higher hwy speed than what I am currently doing? 80 mph seems tough. I'm in a 2021 Gladiator Willys.

@@bigalforsyth your timing is perfect. I was just checking my window sticker last night. Oddly enough it states 4.10 early on in the breakdown and then further down it says 3.73. I didn’t think there was a 4.1 diesel either. Guess an error on the sticker

@@jesselaporte7184 I’ve got a 21 max tow gladiator w the 4:10s and a 21 rubicon wrangler. I too thought it would have the 4:10 even though when we ordered it we opted for the eco diesel. What you are seeing on the window sticker is 4:10 is standard on rubicon but w the diesel it is now optioned w 3:73. Oh how I wish mine were 4:10 on the diesel one so it could spin bigger tires easier. It does fine because of how the torque multiplier is w turbo diesel but could be awesome w 4:10s

@@bigalforsyth ahhhh that makes even more sense now. The 4.1 noted in cause it’s in the Rubicon package. However, the diesel option overrides that and then backs it down to the 3.73 as noted later on. And yes, agreed. Guess just means I should regear, skip the 4.1 and go to 4.88 or 5.xx then laugh at those with 4.10 💪🏼

If I get a better engine & trans in 10 speeds then gear is small issue but if stuck w/ 3.6 godless crap mini van engine & 8 speed trans gear is a big issue.

Good video. I am currently having my 2020 JL Wrangler regeared. I am also going a step further by having an After truss, gussets, and RCV axles (rear are Yukon's). I chose 4.88 (G2 ring and pinion). I run 35 inch tires and this is my third Wrangler over the years I have had regeared. My Jeep is a disaster prep vehicle that I daily drive. With nearly $27K in parts and installation, I will never be going off-road. As stated before, my Jeep is being built for a disaster or society collapse. Best wishes and keep the Jeep videos coming.

If a major disaster or society collapse happens, that Jeep isn’t going anywhere. You won’t be able to fuel it up.

You "will never be going offroad"? When the shit hits the fan, and if you can find gas, offroad is exactly where you will want to be.

LOL. I should sell stickers that indicate that this rig is re-geared. Mall crawlers can put it next to their ARB stickers. After all it's not the gear they want, its the look. I''ll charge em 5 bucks vs. 1800$. The money they save can be used for more overland gear that they wont ever use or even know how.

Another regear opinion with no math or accounting of the transmission gearing. If you look at the 8 speed transmissions 7th gear on 37” tires it ends up as an almost identical ratio to a stock sport. If you turn off the gear indicator you would never really know the difference.
