Thank you for saying that about about older people. I really didn't get into using what my dad used to call" stove wood" until I was in my mid 50's. A Army buddy of mine wanted to start fishing local tournaments on Lake Chatuge. Long story short we finished just outside the money the first time out and was hooked(pun intended) and after that we have won a few local tournaments on different lakes from Hartwell to Lanier. I'm now 62 and have had open heart surgery and cancer and the thought of getting back to fishing has been the best medicine for me. I watch all your videos so I can learn more about bass fishing.

I have been fishing off and on my whole life but I joined the Navy and completed 20 yrs of service. Now that I am retired I have been doing a lot of research and fishing local tournaments. I will next year be fishing amatuer Bass Fishing League (BFL) for the first time at the age of 51. I feel like a teenager going on his first date, I am so excited. I was told that the schedule will come out in October and I can hardly wait. So, there is no age limit like B-Lat says to having fun at fishing. I go every chance I get and if I catch fish or don't I am still having fun.

Good for you, living life like it counts :) I hope to buy a bass boat before I turn 40, but I was diagnosed with colon cancer and Lynch Syndrome and will need a colonoscopy for the rest of my life, so that's probably not going to happen now :( I haven't really fished in years until last year. My youngest son always asked if we could go fishing when we'd go camping, but I never had room for rods in the car as we completely packed it, but last year I got a bigger car, bought some better rods and had more fun than ever before.

Super inspiring. I started fishing when I was 2 and didn't stop until my teens when we moved away from the lake. I was obsessed with it and all I wanted to do was be like Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, Rick Clunn, etc. Not having easy access to water, other endeavors pulled my time and energy for many years. Then came the family and crappy jobs. I couldn't even afford to look at a picture of a boat. Now I'm 48 I just bought my first boat a year ago and will be fishing my first tournament this very weekend (2/9/19) on Lake Wylie, as a boater. I still have the dream. But now I also have the maturity and income to at least get started at the club level. I may not ever make it to the FLW or Elites but I'm gonna give it everything I've got and see where it goes. Thanks brotha.

Thanks for the video. Great subject to open up to input. My test to see if a young person is ready for a day of fishing from a boat is to take them pond fishing. If I need to drag them away from the water when we are done, they are ready. If they get bored and loose interest, not ready. Bottom line, keep taking kids fishing. Invite a dad with a young kid who has an interest in fishing. Open door, be an ambassador. Great stuff, thanks again for representing the sport so well. See you on the water.

I have fished most of my life. Not professionally. Lol. I'm 45 and me and a buddy decided to fish our first catfish tournament this year. It was the biggest in Missouri history. There was 168 teams. Long story short alot of great guys of all ages were in it and pros also. At the end I had a great time and never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine at a first tournament that we ended up in 2nd place. That was a great weekend. And we through it together at last minute on a Friday night and tournament was on Saturday. I'm glad to see you make a video on the subject. Keep up the hard work and it will eventually pay off. Good luck to all.

I started at 16 but BASS was less than 10 years old so that was the youngest a BASS affiliated club was insured for. They have a 3hr big fish tournament on a local lake every Tuesday, $10 entry under 16 free, my youngest started fishing it when he was 3. They paid 3 biggest and smallest legal, I think he cashed when he was 4.

For me I really didn't start until I was 41 with the tournament scene. I feel the same passion now about bass fishing that I did as a teenager playing football. The comment about fishing keeping you young is so spot on. Feeling that drive to improve and be successful like B explains in this video is the spice of life that makes for true happiness. I hope my kids and all kids can find their passion whether it be through fishing or something else.

Hey B Lat.. I been bass fishing since i was 9 and really started getting into it seriously around 12.. I've been hooked ever since.. all my time is thinkn about fishing.. I use to go outside in the yard and practice throwing the old school abu round baitcasters in the yard teaching myself.. I started fishing bfls as a coangler when I was 14. Then when I got my own boat I started fishing local team tournaments and bfls when I was 21.. that's when I got my 1st real bass boat.. always did good and finished at the top of a lot of derby's.. I've always worked to pay my entry fees and equipment, rods, reels, tackle , gas for boat and truck. It's always been my dream to go pro but dont really have the financial backing.. what's some advice where I could find ways to help.. I know sponsors but u have to prove yourself.. really want to fish the costas and bass opens.

Hoping to get started tournament fishing in a few years once I get out of college. Currently saving up for a little nicer fiberglass boat. I suppose the 2000 175 bass tracker would do alright but I feel like the 40 hp and 43lb thrust trolling motor limits me a little. Anyway I can practice learning the lake at least with that boat right now and get a little nicer rig later on.

I'm glad you didn't pick an age for us old farts to start Tournament Fishing. I've been fishing all my life mostly in canoes and power boats of various sizes shapes Etc. Back around two thousand one or two I bought a kayak and started kayak fishing and then 3 years ago I started Tournament Fishing out of a kayak and in 2018 I went to the kbf NC the kayak Bass Fishing national if you will my first full year Wiz kbf. I didn't qualify last year for this year's National Championship but I did qualify for this year for the championship first weekend in April at Lake Guntersville. So I'm now approaching my 71st birthday and I plan on continuing Tournament Fishing on a national level as long as I can stand it! I love it it's a lot of fun. I'm not high in the rankings and very rarely earn money except this coming year I plan on doing very well now that I've got a couple of years of Tournament Fishing under my belt. I know this is a long response but I just thought I'd give you the Insight from a older perspective.
