Any time you tell the audience "what you're watching sucks", you're burying your own product. Intentionally or not, Stone Cold was basically coming out and telling fans "this guy is a waste of your time and you shouldn't want to watch him wrestle" which is only going to cost you viewers. It benefits NOBODY.

The problem is is that Lance Storm really WAS boring 😂people only get "buried" by pointing out things that are actually true. If he'd been called boring but was actually phenomenally entertaining, it wouldn't have stuck. There's value in having good ring work, obviously, but it doesn't equate to entertainment for the majority of the wrestling audience.

So I recall Lance speaking about this on another interview once, and the big problem was Lawler. They could maybe have worked it into the sort of 'shut up and wrestle' thing, but Lawler didn't bother with the prep and just started going in on BORING with no nuance or anything, and that translated to the audience. Bad idea with maybe a slim chance of making something ok, but not with someone on commentary just torpedoing it.

He was very good in the ring though. I genuinely enjoyed Lance Storm, especially at the end of his WCW run and his ECW run

Yes, WWE buried Lance Storm. Stone Cold bringing out a pillow was just one of the ways they did that. Lawler's commentary is another.

Lance was very boring to be fair. Him and Malenko are great wrestlers but there’s more to it than that

"Boring" is the worst possible chant for any wrestler. Storm is one of the greatest, in terms of wrestling ability. I like wrestlers who wrestle and *don't* do ten minutes of talking and then leaving.

*_Lance Storm's_* best moment of his entire wrestling career was in WCW, when he was acting like a "Canadian Heel".

...respect for Stone Cold...but... ...he's really the one to blame when fans started being disrespectful verbally during matches... ...he started (for the most part) the "boring" chant and the always annoying "what" chant... 🤔 I wonder how he honestly feels about creating that last one especially

I'm glad that wrestlers can finally talk candidly about how much Vince screwed them, now that they dont have to worry about possibly relying on him for a paycheque in the future.

I think vince and fans as well need to understand not EVERYONE needs to be a character, a persona, a gimmick. And not every wrestler is destined to be the star of the company. Some guys are simply mechanics in the ring who do their job and do it well and you need them to bounce other characters off.

Because once he was okay with it and played into it it stops being funny. He will blame Vince but he ruined it by trying to play into it. He doesn't understand funny.

ECW got it right. They leaned into the idea that he's kind of wooden, and they did the "Calgary, Alberta, Canada" thing which got him over. Lance is correct in that WWE didn't work it properly where he should be getting heat for his robotic personality as opposed to teaching the crowd to shit on his work.
