General Tip: The next time someone tries to pull the “it’s undetectable for a thousand years” excuse, remember that D&D has levels and RP for a reason- “It’s undetectable to you, but not a dragon. Go negotiate with a dragon who can sniff it out.”

The fact that the father-in-law's response was not questions about what is going on, but to straight up dictate that a husband should not stand up for his wife. that is disgusting. and as for "being more logical" the fact that this fuck must draw in as many people as possible to beat down someone that dared call him out for his behavior shows that he is extremely emotional and must win regardless of cost.

I'm fairly emotional at times, but I can also be very logical. My brother would push my buttons in an argument until I flipped to emotional, then claim he won because he was still calm. My mom shut that down pretty fast. Now we're adults he doesn't do that anymore.

If I have any That Guy's, it would be Paladin. Guy is a 3.5 Veteran, is on the Spectrum (undiagnosed), and has other Undiagnosed issues. While playing 5e, this guy questions everything (especially homeruled stuff). Case in point - Paladin: I throw the gnome Wizard across the pit (10 feet across). Me: Okay. Paladin, give me an Athletics Check, and Wizard, give me a Dexterity Saving throw. Paladin: 16. Wizard: 5. Me: Wizard, you find yourself grabbing onto the edge of the pit (which has some burning scarecrows). Paladin: Wait, a 16 should be more than enough to get him across. Wizard: Well, there was a saving throw that I had to make, due to said throw. Paladin: I'm sure that isn't how it goes in the rules. Me: (Wanting to avoid a 5 minute discussion) Wizard, give me a Perception Check. Wizard: Um, Passive's higher, so 11? Me: You quickly realize that while the rest of your body is on safe ground, your head is looking into the pit, and you can see that, in addition to the two flaming scarecrows, it's filled with spikes. Good thing you didn't land in it. For the most part, given that we have multiple copies of the various books (with me having all the current 5th edition ones), whenever Paladin has a major question, that will take up some time, I tend to let Wizard do the explaining. This is because Wizard has been Paladin's friend since the days of 3.5, if not longer, and knows how to work around him.

Thankfully, Gnome Wizard is DMing now (I'm playing as a Dhampir Tabaxi Rogue - we also have a Mountain Dwarf Paladin, and an Orc Fighter - my real life brother), but this guy still messes things up - "I can't ride a horse." - at least we got a carriage that can be driven. "I'm not that strong." - Powerful Build means you can at least drag more than the dhampir tabaxi. "I want a gun." - here's a reskinned light crossbow. "You mean I have to take a penalty to use my handaxes?" - found out that handaxes aren't Finesse weapons. "I don't want to climb down the cliff and risk losing my five remaining hp." - we all have rope. I mean, I wouldn't mind a *little* bit of metagaming from him, or if he at least tried to roll the dice even with the weaknesses, or had simply grabbed a few skills to shore up his weaknesses.

Why is it always when people play tabletop with someone that they realize how toxic they are?
@Demagogines2 жыл бұрын
My best guess is that by roleplaying they dont have to hide theire toxicity to the extend they have to in normal day to day life. They project themselfs onto theire charakters and thus surface thiere disgustin behavior. They think they can be "themselfs" without the consequences in real life. Play pretend in a game is some of the best way to sniff out red flaggs in a relationship. You want to know if your partner is an asshole ? what was the bloody point of keeping the crown? was it some kindas legendary magic item or something? Shit if I'd been a part of that group, I straight up would have knocked his lights out, in game mind you. Not a situation warranting IRL violence. He wasn't the only person going through literal hell to get to where that crown was, so that "I sacrificed for it so it's mine" shit would have been answered with "WE went through hell to get it. YOU wouldn't have survived solo to get there, AND you've been screwing us over with that book. Now hand the crown over or the fists will start flying."
@Satsujinki19732 жыл бұрын
The Yuan-Ti want to use the crown in a ritual that will summon Dendar The Night Serpent. Summoning Dendar into the forgotten realms would end the world. I've been thinking about testing out World Anvil since it has a free version (iirc?) and this ad just now was just the motivation I needed. I started DMing a homebrew campaign to my close friends group, it's my first time DMing as well, and we had a blast at session 1. I intended it to be a one-shot but both time and my terrible planning didn't allow it, so I'm still working out the details of my campaign like loot and opportunities for them to make skill checks and get something out of it.

What I do not understand is... why was one person allowed to have control of the primary item with absolutely no discussion about what would happen to it? I completely understanding a party member refusing to go along with what everyone else wants (Try making me have a character negotiate with Bad guys like the Yuan-Ti... Because it's never gonna happen), but no one in the party even talked to him about it? Either something is a party item or it's not... That should have been settled immediately. but if you let a party member sacrifice something to get it... and then they DO get it, but they are left to believe it's theirs to dispose of... then where would the rest of the party get off expecting the party member to do what they wanted done with it? Example... I was once in a party where we fought a Thieve's Guild... we found a stash of drugs. I asked if I could take it as my portion of the treasure... they said OK... later a party member suggested that we should be the new Thieve's guild and we could make a fortune selling the drugs.He and one of the other members of the group were incredibly upset and pretty mad that I told them that I had burned/ destroyed the drugs. They were mad that I had 'wasted' them, even after I reminded everyone that I had asked and been given the stash in its entirety as my share, making it mine to dispose of as I wished. Now I'm not saying this guy was a good player or member of the group... but the author never mentioned having discussed the item at all after getting it and before trying to give it to the Yuan-Ti.
