Coordinating turns was one of those things I always struggled with in flight sims. Then I went up in a real plane and it was the most natural thing in the world. NOT coordinating the turn feels like riding a motorcycle with only one cheek on the seat. It's wrong. But your butt doesn't talk in FS, so these visual band-aids are all you get.

So you think You Tubers are bedwetters some of us have REALLY been up taken a few lessons and know exatctly how noisy a small plane is getting the ball to center in a 20 degree banked turn thats another story

It sounds cute and edgy but really he's the one out of line. If one is attentive and mechanically sympathetic, it's obvious this old bird is loud so he has to yell and turn up the volume. Yet Paul's circumstances don't change the end experience for the viewers of his videos and yes, it's easy to overlook how loud the plane is, especially if you're not a pilot and just an av. fan. All he had to say is "folks, this is an old, loud plane and I'm not editing in post so I had to turn the volume up and yell into the mic." No edgy virtue signalling but clear and very much too the point.

@@thomasabramson100 it's not "cute and edgy it's the truth. People need to develop a little respect and shut the hell up more. More people nowadays open their mouths when they really shouldn't. That's what it sounds like in a plane, don't like it? Find a diff video, that simple. It's a video provided free of charge to you so don't complain about it. It's as simple as that. I hate babying everyone's fragile glass feelings. Grow some skin and if you're going to complain on a free video shot in a loud airplane with the audio taken from an aviation headset and not the latest greatest a gear, be prepared for a reply. I'm not saying you to you directly, but to those that would get offended at such a statement. If you're going to verbally throw a shot be prepared to take the return.

I'm not gonna complain about the slip ups. I have dyslexia of the flight controls. I mean aileron but I'll say rudder. Most of my students have learned to think twice on what I've said which is good. It's become an unintentional tool to keep them on their toes and think about things. Indeed, keep the videos coming!

Love your videos, especially the one about Jet patterns in a light single and the growing bars on your shirt. When my son made Captain on the Caravan Amphib. he flies or is it flys? I cut out a bunch of gold bars glued them to a strip of black paper and put them on an old CAP uniform shirt I had . I presented it to him at dinner and I think I put it on Facebook. As for keeping the ball centered, I own a 46 J3C-85 and when I think about it I look up at the ball (The only attitude instrument in the plane) and it is usually half out of center to the left. I don't worry about it most of the time , I'm just up there smashing bugs, the ones I can catch up with and they don't care where my ball is.

What exactly is the scale with the numbers on the slip/skid ball measuring? I'm a pilot, so I've slipped and skidded, unintentionally and intentionally, and I've never heard anybody refer to that scale. You either slip as necessary, or keep it coordinated.
@txkflier2 жыл бұрын
It’s a simple inclinometer with markings at 0, 5, and 10 degrees. They are used as turn coordinators on planes that have no electrical system or as a backup on those that do.

I won't try to outdo you, trust me! I need to fly off about a hundred hours this year as part of my CPL and I intend to record and post a fair bit of it. Some decent audio would clearly be good.

Hi thank you for this video, it is really helpful! I am learning to fly on sims, with a view to MAYBE one day going up for real, cash allowing. Can you tell me please, is it possible to induce a "skid stall" if you apply too much rudder when co-ordinating a turn?
@bartonovichnickel25549 жыл бұрын
A 'skid stall' would be a spin and yes you can get into one but only if you exceed the critical angle of attack and stall. The same thing could possibly happen in a slip, but since the upward wing stalls it would tend to right the aircraft instead of turning it sideways and upside down. That's why slips are always preferable to skids.
