Refreshing to see another bass player that doesn't have freakishly long fingers
@GingerBass8 ай бұрын
Agreed!!!! I mean I got huge hands but my pinkie is short and basically in any standing position it can't reach the E string.
@WilDBeestMF8 ай бұрын
Haha tiny little chipmunk hands plus missing a finger is why I use a pick 😆 I'm learning, though.

Thanks for letting me play BEHS through you. I have an autoimmune disease that has ruined my hands and I haven't been able to play for years. You make me want to battle through and play again. Your content is great, it's informative and fun. Thanks man, you are a great "Behs-ist".

@herseem8 ай бұрын
Instead of 'fighting', I suggest you try a philosophically different approach to dealing with the autoimmune disease. I had a friend who had serious Lupus and while working in Africa was taken to a South African hospital because his kidneys were failing due to the medication. In desperation he asked me for help, so I found a kinesiologist local to him in the same town who had loads of testimonials. After two sessions his Lupus went away, he was able to stop taking the drugs completely and his kidneys made a full recovery. Orthodox medicine is great for life-threatening emergencies, but the longer and slower the condtion the worse it gets at truly understanding it and I think you'll find it worthwhile exploring other options that are less about overriding the body and more about understanding it and dancing WITH the body.

How the hell do you bass players play the D and G strings without using your thumb to mute the above strings??? I just don’t see how that’s even possible to not mute those strings and to not hit them accidentally
@benbone25598 ай бұрын
This is basically how I taught myself bass. I had this Alligator Records 4 CD collection that was *all* blues songs, and I would sit in the dark, figure out whatever key songs were in, and just feel out different attack styles and walk patterns in 12-bar along with the music.

BTW, I think the reason everyone questions whether you really play bass is you are hilarious. I never met a bass player with a sense of humor before. They are always pissed off about something or other. 'No one listens to me. Even the guitar tech gets more action than I do. Why does everyone keep calling me Karl?' Whatever... Though, I am not a bass player, your musicianship is outstanding. When I was in junior college, I saw more bass players on campus than electric or acoustic guitar players. The bass and drums have a more symbiotic connection in a band. The guitar and piano also have this connection in a band if a band had either or both either in rock, jazz, or blues.

I am 50 years old, and just recently decided I'd like to learn to play a musical instrument, so I chose bass. After my choice I scoured the internet and KZbin for what Behs has the sound which is sweetest to my ear, and although I landed on the Music Man Sting Ray I felt $4,000 for an instrument I'm not sure I'll be able to learn was a bit steep, so I just found a cheap Ibanez that I paid $150 for. I thought about a Sterling SUB, but I read about too many negs and not enough pos, so I just found a bass that is going to be a learner. After seeing a couple of your shorts I subscribed to your channel and I love your videos. Keep it up, and I'm steady practicing. There's definitely a learning curve, and I don't get as much practice as I'd like, but we're moving, so I'll have my own music room, and my wife will be in Europe for the entire month of August, so I'll grow exponentially during that month

I'm a drummer, used to play in a few metal bands so I am accustomed playing with bass players who were not talented or skillful enough to be guitarists. But BEHS, particularly in metal, has so much unused potential. A great sounding bass in the right hands beats any frivolous guitar shredder any time.

Love this post! How many times has the guitarist said ‘just stay on A?’ Fortunately, I own the recording studio, so I can spend some time doing the extra bass track that still supports the track and doesn’t sound like the bass player phoned it in as an afterthought. The band is usually arguing about the crazy synth part I also added to notice.
