when the diesel starts

Famous last words.
This genset was fresh off of a truck and I had been told that "the 3-cylinder one has no compression", so I was completely unprepared for it to do anything at all. While it sounds violent, it didn't actually run away - it just started nicely and ran in a controlled manner off of the fuel left in the filters. I was able to engage the fuel cutoff and stop the engine after the video stops, I was just completely unprepared for it to actually start.

Literally! The fuel filters are about the size of beer cans, so, in hindsight, I'm guessing it'll probably run for a good 5-10 minutes on just what's left in them, lol. :D

Hell yeah! A proper generator to hook up to your house and run on used oil :) I got a free generator too, but powered by honda GX390! Still waiting for parts for it from ebay, lol❤

Thank you :) I don't know what to use it for, though, I think solar panels are way better x3, but I find lots of satisfaction in fixing them x3 it's just a little 5.5KW generator set, nothing huge, but enough to power most things honestly x3 single phase, and it has a fun feature that I might have fun with... All 3 power outlets on it are in parallel via a 30 amps breaker... :) I can pull 30 amps from a single 10 amp socket, lol! This will be useful for blowing things up... ;) It's missing the gas cap, pull starter, and airbox assembly and the AVR, once I get those I'm gonna restore it to it's former glory :) I got a new carburetor for it too, parts are dirt cheap, just a couple euros each, I think the carburetor was only about 13-15 euros :) which is fantastic because I love to keep my projects to a budget of 0 if possible, I'm willing to put a little bit of money into it because apparently there seems to be a bit of a market for those generator sets here, so I could always fix it up and sell it :)

There is no plan. When you're offered a free diesel generator, you take it. There's time to figure out the rest later. :D

This thing wasn't really written off as non functional, it was more of a "we haven't tested this thing in donkey's years, its reliability is unknown, and it's justified to replace the entire system" situation.

Hehe. The reason I wasn't too concerned with actually double-checking if there was actually fuel left in the filters, was that I'd been told that it had no compression and was basically fucked. I was expecting it to have stripped timing gears or some other equally horrifying internal fault. But nope, I guess it's just fine. :V
