Its not uncommon for an architect to design a build, but once you start building it, things dont work out to plan. That is what happened with this job, and now we are left to try and make it all work out.

Total agree, it's not your job to sort it out. Get the engineer and architect to fix the problem so you can build it to their design.
@stephens28502 ай бұрын
Get the architect to give you a drawing of it. A valley gutter that changes direction won't comply with AS3500. You are right about the converging flows being a problem. Water will back up in heavy rain. The design is a dogs breakfast.

With the AEG gun... Take the magazine off and there is a little compartment with a tyre valve that you can fill up to 125psi

Awesome onsite problem solving :) 10/10 and very interesting as well you need to think of a lot of things. Thanks for these type of videos.

@@DaveDoesCarpentryAlways great when a trade problem solves but the reality is they aren’t being paid for that and the plans should reflect what is required (and compliant). It was frustrating to hear that the builder directed you to go ahead and if you have to change it later then you will. Draw it correctly the first time on the computer screen so you don’t have to freeze your ass off onsite doing the draftees job!!

I don’t know if Architect know Building Code as I’ve seen lots of architect drawing can’t be build according to ASxxx

I've got the aeg framer.. if ya buy the aeg air pump ya can just top em up when they run low on air.. they are a heavy gun.. still prefer the paslodes
@KaosRising2 ай бұрын
I like the new tools coming out and all new tech it’s good for the building industry. But Paslode framers have been tested for years and are still king. Some times the old ways are better!
@DaveDoesCarpentry2 ай бұрын
Paslode framers are definitely the best, but they’re getting crazy expensive to run with gas these days
@anthonystroud1247Ай бұрын
I’m a custom builder and no house or roof is ever the same. Sometimes there are no books showing details of how things should work unfortunately. Dave and his builder need to just work out a way to make it work. In most cases asking a framer like Dave is the best way as he deals with framing everyday. If people think builders are experts on everything on a building site, you are wrong. I have a carpentry background which helps with these types of problems, but some builders are ex-plumbers or electricians and don’t have the expertise to work this problem out themselves. That’s why having good trades generally means you build good houses.

There's a tire valve on the gun, you can fill the air in the gun again and it will be back to having full power,

None of this stuff was a problem when we had normal free standing single story houses with hip roofs. Just added complexity and reduced quality.
@kelstra1997Ай бұрын
It's unusual for either the Architect or the project engineer to design roof trusses. What normally happens is the Engineer prepares a performance specification and it's up to the builder to obtain a suitable sub-contractor who is responsible for the the truss design. Makes it difficult for chippies like yourself but it's usually not the fault of the principal consultants if things go haywire.

How does this work on a fixed price contract ? Builder absorbs the extra cost for your time, or you just gotta get it done ?
@crossova132 ай бұрын
Surely he gets an extra, so much more work.. I'd be asking for one.
@reedjordan40462 ай бұрын
Builders allow extra on the contract for shit like this

Stupid architect. It is not the engineers responsibility to make sure things look good. The architect should have looked at the engineering drawings and changed the design a bit. Architects often forget that gravity is a thing and they often forget that water exists.

Engineers and architects. Highly intelligent but can be as dumb as dog s#&t sometimes. 😂😂 be safe up there mate. Looks to be a lot of mould on some of the timber. Do you need to treat that at all? Cheers from outback qld 👍

Engineer is intelligent. Architect, not necessarily. Carpenter, lucky if ever. Brickie, eats crayons.
@gadgetphilosophy82902 ай бұрын
That is against the code. You’ll probably need a performance solution. Unfortunately these architectural features don’t work with the code. You’re a good tradesmen but you should have proper sorted plans.

Architect and engineers are good at computer and paper but when it comes to building it they don’t have a clue about building it I have experienced it over the years as a carpenter doing framing , concrete , maintenance, steelwork , having to fix there cluster fxxks . Over educated and no common sense .😱😫😳😡💩💩💩

First Comment: Why should you be solving the Jobs/Projects issues with regards to design... strength... flow... = Engineering and Architectural design etc... BRO... MOVE AWAY... Second Comment: I appreciate that you endeavour to deliver the job to completion for the "client"... but You should not be solving these issue's as they are attached to council/ insurance company approvals.. I Say this to cover your A**.. I love your videos and encourage other to like and sub... But be aware this opens you up to litigious actions... Seriously... These videos open you up to a wall front of litigation. esp where the design from those supposed to be doing it are failing.. Choose your audience and delete this video asap. Signed Truly Concerned.

The building surveyor is ultimately liable, he needs to pick it up then it is up to the architect or the engineer to redesign and for the surveyor to sign off again. We need people like Dave to highlight literally shit we deal with on a daily. Most architects have no idea how to design roofs - yes, architect. Should also get a stormwater engineer involved but honestly 90% architects responsibility.

Terrible design, Any architect worth their salt would never have incorporated a box gutter.
