True story: I'm an RN and years ago I worked on a dementia unit. We had this little old lady in her 80s that the nurse in report told me was having her period because she was bleeding 'down there' and had reported it to the doc and her husband, but hadn't heard back from either. To make a long story short, I did an assessment and discovered she had a horrible UTI and had to try and explain to the husband freaking out because he got a message that his wife was having her period!!! 😂😂😂😂

@caramel30003 жыл бұрын
@@lepenseur8242 I'm going to assume you're not familiar with how hospitals work. A patient comes in with a problem and usually the first doctor they see after triage is an ER doctor who is SUPPOSED to take a good history and PHYSICAL examination to figure out what is going on with the patient and THEN contact the relevant team (in this case OBGYN) which will take over care of the patient. The ER doctor in this case failed to perform his duties because he was uncomfortable examining a woman. Bear in mind a big enough bleed can require a blood transfusion but he wouldn't know because he didn't ask her or examine her.

That must especially be rough because they naturally know the source. But you already know that and have your own treatment plan with your gyno/other specialist. Its just hard to give a medical history and explain you only need acute pain management while you're in that state. Also I've read about uterus hermoragging being mistaken for periods by patients, so if it's super bad the doctor might want to rule that out while also being grossed out. Unpleasant experience for all of us.

@@AbsolXGuardian I’m on tranexamic acid for the bleeding, as I do tend to hemorrhage. And I have pain meds I take, but the problem is sometimes I don’t ‘beat the pain’ and end up vomiting from the pain but can’t take pain medicine because I’m vomiting…and that’s when I end up in the ER. I always feel sooo embarrassed by it too, like I’m being dramatic because I’ve been told by so many doctors that “it’s only a period” where they down play the situation. The problem is, endometriosis pain is the same pain and intensity as giving birth and it’s been placed in the top 20 most painful things a human can experience. When I end up in the ER, I have a note on my health app that I just show them and then they usually do what it says since I know what I need. @nobodyyouknow72263 жыл бұрын
@@luvcherry I think what they're trying to say is it's hard for male doctors to feel like they can say the words but they have the right to say those words when women won't even allow them to actually perform procedures on those parts of the body. It might feel pretty awkward to say the word vagina even though you've been studying them your entire life if you've never actually seen one in person for medical reasons. Because even if those doctors do have instances where they come into contact with a vagina it's likely not going to be at work, it's more likely to be with their partner. And you can't be going around calling a vagina a p*ssy, which is language that would probably use with your partner. It's the same reason why little kids think kissing is so gross, so I'm coming to the point where they won't even say the action. Even though I'm pretty sure they've seen their parents kiss, they seen kissing on TV, and they know it's a normal part of human behavior. It's really hard for some male doctors to normalize a everyday bodily organ when female patients put so much of an emphasis on it. So of course it's going to feel like a naughty word to say even if it's an everyday bodily organ that 50% of the population has. Outside of a medical textbook and possibly their own sex lives, and that's assuming that they're not homosexual which just furthers the problem because that might cause a lack of experience with a vagina. It's a forbidden thing for them to even operate on in a medical professional field since most women will not allow them to, they have absolutely zero experience with since they never grew up with one if they're cis, it's something they've ever only seen in a sexual situation (pornography, magazines, their own personal sex life, etc.), things most normal people are not going to bring up in their professional work area or in a textbook. So of course some of them might feel awkward about saying the word.

In the ER you are seen by whoever is available. Plus I've bn called out many times for a pt in the early hours and since the admitting dr didnt look at the amount of bleeding it could be a few drops and not an emergency or the pt could be bleeding out and trt has bn delayed

This just happened to me. I delivered my baby in an elevator and the ER doctor didn't want to do anything afterwards. He wanted to leave everything for my doctor ( who obviously wasn't there yet)

Right up to "she's too old for her period" I was there. I've been that patient. Twice actually. First time was due to a newly developed allergy. Second was a miscarriage. Well done skit though.

Lol thank goodness an OB was sent to look at the ultrasound the ER residents were doing on me. Those poor residents couldn't tell what the heck was going on. Internal bleeding. I needed emergency surgery.

It is perfectly fine for a female to want another female to do the exam. For some women there are religious reasons for this request. It’s their job to accommodate if possible.

That’s true, but he gave a whole bunch of “reasons” why he didn’t do a pelvic exam.

They treat you horribly if you go to the ER for a extremely heavy period. Some women feel like they could be miscarrying it's so bad. I went twice for this. I would rather miscarry at home than be treated like that again. Horrible, horrible experience. No one deserves to be treated that way.

IV proton pump inhibitor? Medium and Prilosec are PPIs. Don’t see the connection haha. At least the patient will have any heartburn resolved!

Ugh 😩 i was an army medic once upon a time and worked in the ER and let me tell you.... being the only female medic on the all exiting night shift is BLEEDING VAGINAS EVERYWHERE 😐 literally every door you walk through... just bleeding vaginas... bleeding vaginas and my female medic self helping with every pelvic exam... ALL THE PELVIC EXAMS..

"that's not..." what? necessary? I know it's a bit, but if it were a real situation and something wasn't necessary then other doctors/nurses need to speak up and clarify that because the patient is getting stuck with the bill and if there is unnecessary shit being done the patient shouldn't be charged for it

I would be scare to do and say certain things around and about women too. Not because I'm scared of what I'm saying or what I have to do but entitlement and stubbornness of certain people can damn me because they don't understand /like things.

Bahahahahaha!! I'm an EMS instructor and the first thing I make my students do during OB/GYN is stand up and yell "VAGINA" and "VULVA" out loud three times like "Oh Captain, my Captain". Makes the words a little less scary to say to patients and over the radio.

So when you get the call saying you're needed right away, you decide to stall forever instead of replying "I'll be right there" and heading down? Good one!
@starfireonvf3 жыл бұрын
You kinda need to know what's going on before you head into an emergency so you know what to order and make sure nothing is being duplicated and prevent mistakes. It's actually done with every specialty in the medical world. The patient is already in the ER being taken care of.

Now I know why iy was specifically mentioned in bleeding esophageal varices to not use ppi unless already diagned with pud... So doctors tend to use as much ppi as possible , just in case! Well I'm not any better tbh!

As a women who has had a man do a pelvic exam on me before. I much rather prefer a women to do it. Not saying I didn't trust him, or that he didn't know what he was doing. It was just really uncomfortable,😅
