The B works because it's one of the chord tones. It's the 5 of that Emin9 which is the underlying harmony, since you tuned it down from that Gmin9 in the beginning. Also the piano line that repeat is playing E, B, E, F#, B. Chord tones from the main triad being played used as a melody are always really useful. The tension is happening because it sounds like you pitched up the chord for a half a beat right at the end of the loop and when you drone that B it adds some nice dissonance while the harmony shifts up chromatically. Killed it, man. Sounds great.

Great stuff. One thing I’ve been doing recently is to make my own mini sample pack for the track before touching my sampler. It usually starts with creating a chord progression loop on my daw and sampling matching other sounds. From that point I treat it as if I only had those sounds to work from. I have found I am making tracks much faster and fairly happy with my tracks with these little rules, lol. Anyway, helped get me out of a bit of a rut so thought I’d share…

4 days later and I just remembered something. Because the DT treats each pattern as its own "kit" but the sample pool is shared, you can dedicate a specific pattern as a scratchpad / record / bounce location so you don't need to sacrifice a track or two in the main pattern. Whenever I do this I just use pattern 16. And if you want to clear all the pages of a track just press TRK + Clear to "Clear Sound". This does keep the trigs though.

How do you manage to sample all your synths straight into the DT without changing the cables? Or are you doing that but cut it out of the video? Patchbay? Some other method? I thought maybe you could route one of the outputs from my audio interface (Scarlett 8i18) into the DT but that doesn't seem to work.
@johncitizen8828 Жыл бұрын
I’d love to know how the routing works with the patch bay. Do all your keyboards/synths go into there, and then the output from three goes into the DT, enabling you to sample any of your hardware instruments?

So good. Love the Digitakt. But I wish it had stereo sampling… those Nord strings sounded great with stereo effects coming out of the Nord but then collapsed down to mono in the Digitakt they lost a lot of the mojo. Wonder if we’ll get a Digitakt firmware upgrade from Elektron to give us stereo sampling one day? Probably not because Octatrack but can only hope…

Agree with the general consensus, excellent bassline. When resampling is there a way to just use it and keep it stored in the project file or does all the resampling need to be saved to the drive? I never resampling because it makes my file management sloppy and it’s always a challenge to know how to name them. Maybe I’m too OCD for it.
