I actually thought about this topic aswell and I have to make 3 notable additions: 1. Berserk - Griffith vs Guts round 2. I think this fight has sooo much impact on the entire series. It's humiliating for Griffith, sets future events in motion, shows growth for Guts... it does so much in such a short amount of time. 2. Killua vs. Jones in the first hunter exam. Jones gets so much hype and Killua straight rips his heart out. You haven't seen him fight before and you get the sense right away that he is emotionally messed up, dangerous, ruthless and yet still a kid. Great way to establish a character. 3. Goku vs. Nappa or Rikuum. Those fights serve the same purpose. They establish Goku as a real threat to the main villain and show the viewer the difference in power between the henchman and the real deal.
