We've trailered our Ultimate 18, Lady Emma, all the way to Brisbane in search of some warm sunny weather. Our first destination is Peel Island in Moreton Bay. We launched at Cleveland on a Friday afternoon with no real plan for the week other than see where the wind takes us.
Having decided to stay based on Peel Island we needed to do a supply run back to the mainland.
While Horseshoe Bay was calm, the forecast was for 15 knot winds from the north. Lets see how the sail goes.
Once back on Peel Island we take a walk to checkout some beautiful sandstone formations and the old quarantine facility.
Join us as we venture offroad, chasing landscapes painted with rich sunset colours and some beautiful swimming holes.
Get out there and travel Australia, it's amazing.
Also a big thanks to my wife Racheal (AKA - WE SHOOT STUFF PHOTOGRAPHIC SERVICES) and Amelie for there awesome photography. Check out her facebook page or website www.weshootstuff.com.au
Enjoy!

I did that run about 3 weeks ago...15 knots, however from the South. It certainly was a fun ride, especially in a metre and half waves. :) Great videos....thanks.

Thanks Craig, it was a great test and a lot of fun. What boat did you do the sail in?

@@VentureOffroadAustralia4x4 I have an old "Cal 14" - it's a 14' cruiser that was made in Brisbane about the mid-eighties. Only picked it up a few months ago and am enjoying it thoroughly.

I see photos of cal 14s on Facebook a bit. They look like a nice sail boat. Enjoy your sailing in sunny Brisbane. We're back in cold, rainy Victoria now.

That flapping genoa at 06:22 looked like its luff was loose. I would guess that it was not fully hoisted and needed pulling up a touch more. It certainly looked an interesting passage!

Thanks for the tip. I thought the jib car needed adjusting but it didn't help. I keep looking back and wondering what the cause was and you're probably right..

@@VentureOffroadAustralia4x4 - armchair diagnoses are always tricky and suspect, but the car position looked to be well back. It was the looseness of the luff that makes me think it was not pulled up enough. We have the luxury of a roller furler so once it is set right we are always good, but after dropping the genny it usually takes a sail or two to get it set correctly.

We also have an adjustable back stay, so if not slack in the jib halyard, maybe I needed to tighten the back stay.

It is surprising how quickly conditions can change in the bay I was doing a Skippering Course with RQYS last weekend on the Saturday morning it was quite calm in the afternoon we were surfing waves 9.4 knts on Elliot 6 back into Manly Harbour and a number of boats capsized. Looks like you guys had it all under control. Did you find out what those weird sea creatures are I tried to find something on google but didn't find anything that looks the same.

It was certainly a challenging sail but we felt comfortable the whole time. We still haven't worked out what those sea creatures are. I must keep researching. Well done on the skipper course, it would be a worth while investment.
