Just an idea, but maybe cover entertainment sometime? Board game (usually flat boxes easily stored), couple packs of cards, guitar/musical instrument, etc. For long-term societal disruption, marijuana seeds (yeah yeah, I know), easy to grow and take care of. It'll be a viable means of bartering too! Some people can make alcohol, but it's not a simple process, at least to me. Apocalypse downtime is gonna be boring as holy damn!

I remember taking my boys to the local grocery store. It was a regular grocery trip (as regular as one could get during COVID) and we walked the aisles, and I pointed out missing things, like TP and their favorite soups. I told them to pay attention to what they're seeing, because this was the first time in my memory I'd seen anything like this, with shelves this bare. We managed to pick up a few things at the store that day, and we had what we needed at home. And I was reminded why I took to heart seeing all those canned goods in my grandparents' basement.

We took all kinds of food & drinks. I would say that we took at least $100 worth. Plus we found a bskery that was open & spent another $59 worth - bought pastries & french breads. When we left, we gifted her with $60. Every meal was prepared with the food we contributed. We were very grateful to have a warm place to stay, with good good to eat. There were 10 adults in all.

At walmart there is a smallish portable propane heater, my buddy, about $75 or so, dont forget to buy an adapter hose, perfect for when no electricity or gas. You're warm and can cook. Next try to find a used 55 gal barrel and wash it out, fill it with water, add 5 ounces of bleach, congratulations, you have stored water for 1 year. Dry beans, dry rice, and chicken bullion will get you through in a pinch and store easily without power. I assume since your Texans I dont need to mention guns. Have a couple guns and know how to use them. I have to reveal, I have solved the AR vs AK debate once and for all time......have one of each! A thousand rnds each should do... I live in a rural area where most people know each other and are therefore, predictable. Once during a 5 day power outage after a hurricane, I was amazed by how some people became more and more selfish and savage as the days wore on. Ice and MRE's were available by day 2 until a few days after the power was restored. I watched people hoard the MRE's and watched one man who got the max allotment of ice each day and go back for another 20 lbs that evening. He was building a wall of ice around his patio to keep cool. Really surprised me how quickly some people got mean and selfish when they all knew that the power would come back soon and when none of them were in any danger of going hungry. Civility and common decency are fragile things.

This is a problem that all preppers will face. For Christians, it's an extremely difficult dilemma. We know Jesus wants us to share, but how do we do that safely & sanely while keeping enough for our families? What do we do when faced with a hungry family, or seniors who we know could probably not afford to prep? I worry about facing those situations and am not sure yet what I'll do. I certainly don't want to live in a world where people won't help others in need, but I prefer not to starve or face mobs demanding what I have either. I guess I will just have to pray that God will help me know what to do when the time comes!

I have a story from my childhood. One day i was playing with some other kids. The dad of the children showed up and had food from the store in his car. I noticed none of the kids went to help him carry the food in the house. I was 9 years old by the way. So i went to grab a bag of the food to help carry it in for him. He jumped a little like i was stealing his food. He said, what are you doing ? So i said, you worked for the money to buy this food, they could at least help you carry the food in the house for you. They get to eat the food for free. And they just stand around and watch you carry it into the house. Then he let me alone to help him carry the food into the house. Later he walked up to me and handed me a toy car that all the doors and hood opened on it. He gave me a toy for helping him carry the food in the house. I was already a good person , and willing to help him for nothing. But that made me feel good about myself, and is one of the reasons i stayed a good person all my life. BUT, i am not willing to help people who are lazy, and not willing to work for what they need and want. I am moral, but i am not a fool to do the lazy peoples work for them. I help those that are willing to help themselves.

There was a 3 can limit on beans but there were only five cans of beans even available to buy. Zero rice. It was depressing and scary. He has changed his tune since then. I have a decoy stash for relatives and inlaws, though i dont discuss shtf with them anymore as they thought it was silly and hilarious since 2k15. They are very not open to my ideas. However, i am getting them into backyard gardening. I also keep communication with a small community of like minded individuals. About interacting with others during times of crisis. My general rule is simply to treat each situation in a way that rests well with my conscience. My advice, seek The Almighty and he shall direct your paths and to him be all praise. Be blessed.

I have two married brothers who live about an hour away. I love them, they're great guys. While my words of caution have caused each of them to keep about a months worth of food on hand, they both scoff at the levels I've taken things to. I have no doubt they would both show up when their supplies ran out. As I've explained, I am unlikely to be here and will have relocated everything I need to my MAG retreat. IF they show up before then, I've decided I will take them in under one condition: they now work for me. I have loads of room for them, space is no issue, but I will certainly put them to work gardening, prepping, and - especially - with security. I can't cover all shifts, but three of us can. The most likely scenario is that they will find me gone and I tell no one where my retreat location is. They've been told this and elect not to prep. They're grown men. They've made their choices.

The harsh reality is that nobody is entitled to anything you have - many feel this way now; it could be worse in a bad situation. I learned a few valuable lessons from the Covid lockdown in London. It was an excellent practise-run because panic buying emptied the shops of food, nobody had bought masks in advance, nobody knew how bad things would get and my flatmate was a disaster area. I had to plan for the worst, and I honestly assumed that at some point I would be having the "hard chat" with a few people.... IF anyone close to you, like a housemate, knows about your preps, you need to lay down the law. Tell them in no uncertain terms that your preps are based on your survival and you aint cutting them in half and sharing them. "If I stop going to work would you give me half your wages" is a good line. Tell them STRAIGHT, you are not subsidising their laziness. Obscure your windows and watch your smells. Dont give anyone a reason to nose around. Turn your neighbours into allies, but dont trust them. I gave them spare plants from my grow... gifts that said "I'll help you if you help yourself" Trade with fellow prepared people with the right mindset. Me and one neighbour ended up keeping an eye out for each other, and I would give her my low grade FFP3 masks and advice, she ended up thanking me with food and gin (I shit you not) Never gift, exchange. Nobody should feel that your doorstep is a place to get free stuff. If they need food, ask for batteries. Even if you DO give stuff, throw in a request for something you are short of so that they realise its a transaction, not a charitable pick up. Remember that everyone who sees or hears about someone coming to your door and leaving with stuff, creates a future set of problems. Remind people of that when they show up. Talk kindly, but with a demeanour that says "I will physically defend my stuff". Luckily lockdown turned out to be relatively mild, but I was forced to learn some worse case scenarios. There ARE a few people on this earth that I would give anything to, if it would help them survive, but not many. As an anecdotal story, my friends mother was a small independent shopkeeper in an industrial town where the workers at the only major employer went on strike for a whole year. During the strike, she was strong armed into providing food for the local community on the basis that she was part of the community, she should support them, and they would pay back monies owed when the strike was over. Did they? No. When the strike was over, all the people who benefited from her charity vanished from their debts, wouldnt look her in the eye in public, and she quickly got rebranded as the person capitalising on the strike because she was the only person money lending. Nobody paid her back, she went bankrupt, and they hated her for it too. The moral of the story is, everyone is your friend when they are desperate and you are wealthy, but they reserve the right to hate you for being wealthy whilst they suffer. Great video as always. No Prepper is an island, sooner or later they have to deal with the community around them, unless they live in a bunker with a 100 year food supply, they built the bunker themselves, and have no friends or family.

That's people! It wasn't a desperate or pandemic situation and I had a business. If all those who owe me came fourth I would be fine financially. It has taken years to get back to where I started, not where I was, where I started. Lesson, do not extend credit without something on paper to hold them to terms. The next lesson, for me, was after returning from Cali, all the people we helped in the past, none helped us. Not family or friends. For the first time I was homeless. I don't help others now.

Handing out anything to total strangers during any kind of SHTF scenario is basically the equivalent of putting a target on your back and a sign in your yard that says "I have food and water, robbers stop here." As sad as it is, after a major disaster you and your immediate families survival HAS to come first. In the 1950s America, The Little Red Hen hard copy book was what could be termed 'required reading' for our public schools. Why it disappeared can probably be explained easily, but certain segments and groups of current society will lash out if it is brought up for discussion. It is a tale of self-sufficiency and independence. On initial looters, having gone through natural or man-made disasters several times myself , the looters are out quickly within the 1st hour and comprised of the usual suspects looking for materialistic goods, jewelry, etc. When people become hungry or act out of fear of where their next meal is coming from, then things get real dicey with strangers, let alone neighbors/acquaintances. We've been told for decades that ATMs will be down, cash and credit cards useless in a prolonged scenario of chaos. We always bring up the Donner Pass or the Chilean airplane disaster where cannibalism was ultimately a 'survival' tool, moral or not. Most people will cringe when talk of eating their own pets comes up when times are normal as barbaric and uncivilized. Hard decisions, like a living will, are eschewed or put off during good times, why not 'prepping.' Have seen it too many times to be ignored.

I made the terrible mistake a couple years ago of telling a neighbor to stock up due to what was coming. He was the type of person like us who I thought would get it. When I told him he said "Well when it happens I will just come to your house". I instantly knew I had messed up. He was serious. I havent talked to him since. But instead one day I will be forced to remind him of his words. Yes, I will give him a few cans and then send him on his way. Imagine when that neighbor or passerby knocks on your door begging for food, and you can honestly just tell them I haven't eaten for a week. When your neighbors see you losing significant weight just like they are, and you honestly tell them you haven't eaten for days or weeks, how would they have the audacity to ask you for food. After you have consumed the perishables that cannot be stored longer-term,,, STOP EATING. By saying stop eating, I mean that each person capable in the group or household should initiate a water only fast. Most people in our society can easily fast for three to four weeks without any significant side effects. I should say without any significant bad side effects there are many significant positive side effects to a prolonged fast. This will do two things, the first of which is to prolong your food Reserves for another three to four weeks. The second effect of this would be to lower body fat, and make each member of the group or Homestead healthier. Also this would make it appear to outsiders as though you're struggling for food just as much as they are. My daughter referred to this as Tactical Fasting, LOL. One might think that just reducing rations would accomplish the same thing, but that's just not so. By fasting your body will burn fat and it is quite healthy. By severely reducing rations it pushes your body into a starvation mode which will actually burn muscle and is not so healthy. Tactical fasting the ultimate gray man option.

It is so important that we seek the wisdom of God for we are facing some really trying times. We are being attacked from every possible angle. If you believe in the Creator of the seen and unseen, of all things of Heaven or earth then hear Him in flesh (The Son) and spirit (Priest and King). Psalms 91:9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. Jesus referred us to The Father for reasons we may not understand but He knew we would need God's wisdom to show us our way. Just as Jesus followed The Father, so shall we. This is why: Protect your home and family and property by using the wisdom of God in Deut. 6:8-9 Psalms 119:151 Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth. Jesus is The Word, John 1:1-5 The Word God spoke: Exodus 20:1 The Word God wrote: Deuteronomy 4:13 and The Word God made flesh John 1:14. He is our example of The Trinity. He is The Law that hung on the cross and The Law that is written in the heart. Psalms 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me Hebrews 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. With obedience to The Father in Deut.6:8-9, The Father anoints us with His Word, putting us in His Son, The Holy Spirit. We do not work for our salvation, Jesus died and saved the world. But we can work for our protection from the PLAGUES, those coming to steal, kill, and destroy, from deception etc.. There is nothing wrong with works for we are judged on our works. Faith without works is dead. Why would Jesus tell us to pray for workers, if no work is to be done? Build up the body of Christ by 'putting on' The Lord. Cling to, dwell in the law (Ten Commandments) and testimony (Sermon on the Mount). We know His voice. His words are spirit and they are life. Hear Him. Prepare for your future and the life of your loved ones. As Paul tells us, "put on Jesus." Cling to, dwell in the Truth, in life. Learn of the armour of God and grow strong in our Lord Jesus Christ. The Spirit of God, the Ten Commandments, used to be everywhere across America, not any more. Few homes will contain the precious Word of God. Our schools, our court houses and public property have mostly removed the Commandments. God's Word will preserve us if we apply them once again across our Country. Each of us, on our property, our loved ones, on our all. He never left us, we left Him. Surround your world in Light. We are to serve Him with all that we are, heart, mind and soul. Are you one of His? Grow in Him and continue your armour so you and yours are standing strong in Him upon the day of His return. He is still with us, will we let them remove Him even from our families? May God go with us all in accordance with His law, His love. Cling to the Truth, dwell in Him. Protect your family!!! He always shows us a way out of our troubles. Let's seek His wisdom in all our problems. Protect your loved ones. Hear the wisdom of God or the advice of Paul and put on Jesus. Spread The Word in either or both preaching and in deed. When prayer isn't enough anymore, then try the prescribed instructions given us by our Father. Always use K.J.V. if possible. Jesus is our hope. The Bible is the greatest gift of faith, hope, love, peace, life, etc.. A book that offers us every Spiritual gift that money can't buy. Our Lord deserves His place as King. Too many doesn't know their Lord. "THE LAW IS KING", Thomas Paine. Common Sense 1776.

Well after about 2 days I noticed people doing things out of the ordinary and took note. I stayed busy outside cleaning yard waste up and taking care of some damage from the wind. But my being outside was the first defense to door knockers from out of my circle of neighbors. I kept them at distance from my house and made short conversation at the road vs letting them get close to see what I had. I have a security system and cameras with motion alerts. I never had one door knocker in the night come ask for sugar, because I mostly kept the talk to short conversation away and said nothing to the effect of just the damage we received. Now the line workers on the down power line from out of state, they ate well and enjoyed cold drinks.

My intention is to help my neighbors to pool donated resources and set up a soup kitchen and a first aid station if an earthquake, nationwide economic meltdown or other disaster suddenly makes a lot of my neighbors homeless or unable to buy food or causes injury to a lot of people. I would rather not have people coming to my home for help. I prefer to go to a common area and volunteer to help. And I will not go anywhere alone or unarmed because the human predators in the community will be emboldened if a law enforcement response in non-existent.

@Wally Balldinger No soup kitchen set up for an emergency is intended to operate forever. When food donations dry up or the need for the kitchen dwindles, then the food kitchen gets disassembled. And people have either then been evacuated or gone to where the National Guard is delivering food rations.

That's real nice of you to want to help, but you're leaving your home open for predators. Most people will stay home and try to protect their property.

@@Livetoeat171 You are making some assumptions that are incorrect. Donating to a local soup kitchen or a first aid station in no way leaves my home "open for predators." I have a hardened home that is difficult to break into and there is usually one or more armed adults inside that home at any given time. Every adult in my household has a concealed carry permit and many hours of firearms training. Any fool who tries to break in will have to make a lot of noise and expend a lot of energy over considerable time in the attempt to get inside and, if he manages to get inside, the intruder will discover just how accurate are the home's armed defenders who will be waiting for him to set foot inside.

I lived through two California wild fires, no one offered help. I thought I would be the same but not sure if I can turn away starving children. If my neighbor drives his Tesla over to ask for food - it will be an easy “no” & tell them to keep moving. Loose lips cost lives.

The problem there is they may have been sent by parents/adults, or at least share the info after. Would be hard to turn kids away though...have to be in the situation to really know I guess.

OPSEC, and as soon as the "event" begins, over the course of a week, slowly reduce your caloric intake, and play it off as you don't have food. Blend in and do what the others are doing. solution-shut the door. Negative outcome? You didn't listen. Don't give into pathological altruism. Don't scream "i told you so"....say "i wish you the best." Remember.."when you help a man in trouble, he will remember you..the next time he is in trouble." Pay attention..

This subject has come up several times over the last few years. This is how I see it. Now is the time to prepare for someone asking for help. Find a church or other group that distributes food and ask them what their plan is if there is a crisis. Be a part of that plan. When someone asks you for help you refer them to that organisation and tell them you have nothing you can help them with. This will keep you and yours safe. If you live in a small neighborhood you can arrange a community garden and donate seeds. If people have food everyone in the neighborhood will be safer and may work together. IMO

I live in a very rural area. The plots land around me are 4 to 40+ acre plots. No city services at all. It is an unincorporated, unrestricted rural area. Many of the older people around here, aren't technically preppers, but are naturally somewhat prepared simply because they're country people. I'm 51, my wife is 47... and there are only a few families that are younger than us around here. Most of this group are pretty up to speed on prepping. It is a high trust community, where we all communicate, and interact regularly. We all help each other. There are couple down trodden families who live off the government, but that's it. The knocks on the door in a shtf situation would be similar to knocks on the door we already get....just neighbors offering gifts, or asking for help with a project. Because of how rural we are, it's unlikely that people outside this known quantity, would venture down the back roads to our area. Distant non-prepping family, who wish to flee the suburbs and cities, are a definite concern though. Something me and my wife discuss and plan as best we can. We sometimes send links for survival stuff to my wifes parents. They simply buy it because we recommend it. We tell them to keep it all together and throw it in the car and bring it, if they reach the point of needing to head this way.
