It's 1.5 degrees hotter here already, the poles are warming so fast, i mean when i was a kid a 20 degrees Celsius day was hot, not 33-35 is hot, that used to be what we travelled to south France and Spain to experience, now it's here, it's crazy. Our nature is so fucked, in the middle of winter we had a heat wave, so our insects and first flowers started to bloom and right after we had a month of freezing winter, so most of the insects died and the flowers as well, now all of a sudden it's warm and small 🐞 can't remember the word in English, they are hiding inside our houses and windows, cause they just need a little warmth, but many will die from thirst, and they are already becoming rare, i really hope that some will adapt.

Just thought I would share my experience, I was born in the late 70's and while growing up in the 80's I still remember the smell and smoke of non catalytic converter vehicles and all the smog they put in the atmosphere it made me feel nauseous. I also remember when snow was a lot more frequent and now we get maybe 1 or 2 days of snow a year. Summers are now unbearable at over 30 degrees. I don't know if this is because of climate change, but the experts seem to think so. All I do is try to be as clean as I can and also use as little as I can when it comes to consuming the world's resources. I also try not to send garbage to landfill and try recycling as much as I can because I feel it helps, I don't scientifically know if it helps but it makes me sleep easier at night. What I can say is we have made massive strides in trying to limit man's footprint on earth, I mean look at the pollution during the industrial revolution. I am sure in the next 100 years we will be even cleaner as a species.

Have we crossed the point of no return in terms of damaging the planet? There is no such point. We need to trust that our thought, which is our greatest quality, can change nature. We only need to understand the direction to which we should aim our thoughts. What should we think about? What condition or state should we aspire to and ask for? In order to save our planet, we should think about positive human connections. That is, how can we, in our connections, keep nature safe? How can we all together protect our world? If we truly wish to better our planet, then we should see people holding a concern for how to positively connect everywhere that we look. It has nothing to do with recycling or other activities that we commonly associate with as being sustainable. If we come closer to and consider each other, that we will reach an entirely organic, perfectly connected and round state, then the negative forces will disappear from the world. We need to understand that if we start thinking better about each other, then the planet will recover from all harm, because our thoughts are the strongest force in nature. Likewise, our negative thoughts about each other are entirely to blame for damaging the planet. That is why the more we recycle and invest in energies and activities that we commonly think of as being sustainable, the worse our planet becomes. Nothing will work to benefit us until we reach a state where our attitude changes toward each other for the better to protect and improve our planet.

People tend to only show concern when major events or personal circumstances affect them. As humans, we often prioritize our own interests and fail to extend the same level of care and concern to others. This raises the question: why is it so hard to care for others? Perhaps it's because there's no monetary reward for doing so. However, if we want to make the world a better place, we need to start caring more. Though it may be challenging, it's important to start taking action now. After all, if we don't start now, when will we?

This is not reported by the media. This happens as a planet cools. The current warming phase stopped some years ago. This is widely know by the scientific community. It's hard to not notice such things when sattellites are recording tempertaures all over the planet. The North Pole is experiencing it's coldest Summer on record. @@myplan8166 It could be a very cold Winter. The apparent turmoil in weather patterns is producing some heat spikes, but larger parts of the planet are experiencing exceptionally cold weather. This is not reported by the media. This happens as a planet cools. The current warming phase stopped some years ago. This is widely know by the scientific community. It's hard to not notice such things when sattellites are recording tempertaures all over the planet. The North Pole is experiencing it's coldest Summer on record. Mostly I believe that the issue is more complicated than they are willing to admit. The models they rely on have been decades in the making and they are woefully inaccurate. I'm reading comments and wondering if some actually watched the video. Some folks have a hard time understanding that yes, we've had warm periods in the past, but with our dramatically increased reliance on technological advances today, a lot of our activities cause more CO2 to be released, so the effects will continue to snowball and become more frequent until we either figure out a way to maintain or immediately reduce carbon levels. A 100 years ago, there were a lot less cars, air travel was in its infancy, industry was still growing. And all these just to name a few all have one thing in common. CO2. Meanwhile, we haven't even come close to matching those in terms of activities that eliminate carbon. As much as we like to romanticize space travel, we still only have one earth, one home, and we must keep it livable for all species.

Think China, the number one contributor. Also, here in Canada. Over 90% lives along the southern border. What's the rest of the country filled with? Trees, Mother Nature's naturally occurring air filters. We have enough trees to handle most of the entire world's air pollution. Another obvious trait that falsifies these claims of global warming. Ocean front real estate is and continues to boom, worldwide. What bank, anywhere in the world is going to shell out billions in loans for these houses if it were true that these waterfront homes would all be under water in a few years?

Presenting this is good, and for those who are still unaware of the overall damage, this short video can be informing ... but at least presenting one solution, one direction, one action, at the end of the video would make even more sense! What other energy could we use? What actions could we do to reduce the use of energy, and by extension the use of coal-fueled electricity? What professional jobs could be more meaningful for our planet? What type of volunteering "for the planet" would be much more impactful? ... those are questions i hope BBC Earth can put a light on. Where i live, electricity is very cheap, but i try to use as small a quantity as i possibly can (adapting to the cold instead of using heaters in the early winter, same during summer, taking cold showers more than before, walking more instead of taking my electric vehicle, etc.) but still .. i don't think my efforts are what's having much real impact; so having more leads would have been appreciated BBC Earth (and your documentaries) [not blaming you, just an important suggestion, so you too can have a positive impact!]

@stauffap 2 жыл бұрын
I can tell you what's vital in countries with cold winters: 1. Switch from oil heaters to heat pumps. Why? For 1kWh of oil the oil heater only produces less than 1kWh of heat. The heat pump on the other hand makes 3-5kWh of heat from 1kWh of electricity. We save up to 80 percent of the primary energy for heating by doing that. That's massive without any decrease in comfort. 2. Switch from a fossil fuel powered car to an electric car (or bicycle or public transport). Why? A gasoline powered car uses about 70kWh per 100km. An electric car just uses 20kWh/100km. So we decrease the primary energy demand in this sector by about 70 percent. 3. We need to massively expand our installation of photovoltaic panels and wind turbines. All studies show that they are the pillars of renewable energy systems. It's impossible to make the necessary energy transition without those two energy sources. The good news that has been largely unnoticed: electricity from wind turbines and photovoltaics is now the cheapest form of electricity. In fact it's even more amazing. In 2020 the IEA called electricity from photovoltaics "the cheapest electricity in history". Every person should know and understand those three points. The energy transition is a bit more complicated than that, but those are the things that the average person needs to know. Other measures like energy storage and negative emission technologies are things that mainly industries need to be concerned with - not average citizens. Of course there are other things that are more well known -Flying: The distance is crucial here and the main cause for the emissions. In two 8-hour flights you can easily double your yearly CO2 emissons simply because you can travel such a large distance in thouse 8 hours. So simply travelling less far has a huge impact and of course one can have vacations that are just as nice, but less far away. It's going to be cheaper as well. -Eat less meat and animal products. You'll safe a lot of money by doing that. -Get informed about what the science says about global warming and the solutions. The IPCC reports are an excellent way to start -Get politically involved. A lot of the necessary emission cuts won't happen without the right policies. Don't fall for empty promises. You want realistic and concrete measures that climate scientists will say have the desired effect.

@@stauffap I sure wish people on my "side" would stop spouting BS. This, "1. That's massive without any decrease in comfort." Is absolute rubbish. Heat pumps are not magic. Your statement implies heat pumps somehow are able to violate the second law of thermodynamics, that is undeniably impossible. Entropy is a one way trip in this universe and nothing, certainly not your heat pump; can violate the second law! YOU CAN NOT GET MORE ENERGY OUT OF A SYSTEM THAN YOU PUT INTO THE SYSTEM!
@stauffap
@stauffap 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarkM001 Thanks for making my point. I'm mentioning those technologies because so many people aren't aware of what they are capable of doing in terms of energy. No, heat pumps certainly aren't magic and yet what i've written is completely true and not at all controversial in physics. It's simple thermodynamics, but thermodynamics that many people aren't aware of. If you had googled heat pumps before you wrote your comment you would have noticed this ;) So how does it work? And why doesn't it violate any law of thermdynamics? The clue is in the name "heat pump". A heat pump is nothing new. You can look at a refrigerator as a heat pump. You turn on the heat pump and one side gets hot and the other side gets cold. What this allows you to do is pump heat from the enviroment into your house. So those 2-4 additional kWh don't come out of nowhere, but from the enviroment. The reason why this work is because you can get the cold side (heat exchanger) colder than the enviroment and as you surely know heat flow from warm to cold. So if the cold side of your heat pump is colder than the enviroment it will get heat or thermal energy from the outside and transport it/pump it to the inside. So you invest 1kWh of electric energy, the cold heat exchanger gets 2-4kWh of energy from the enviroment and the hot side releases 3-5kWh of thermal energy. I teach physics myself and unfortunately it's the physics teachers fault why their students don't know about this highly relevant technology. I make sure that i teach about this technology whenever i can. It's some very counterintuitive thermodynamics. "YOU CAN NOT GET MORE ENERGY OUT OF A SYSTEM THAN YOU PUT INTO THE SYSTEM!" So this is ture. But you missed that the cold side is taking heat from the enviroment because it's colder than the enviroment. So energy in: Electricity + heat from enviroment Energy out: thermal energy into your house And of course we also have some losses due to friction etc.

Can't help the climate by printing debt. Can't tax the rich without the rich passing it on. Fake climate scientist are the problem. They are racing down the wrong road. Magnetic poles moved 40 degrees in the last 40 years. Now the plates are cracked, earthquakes doubled & we are going into debt to rebuild infirstructure in areas which are doomed from the start. A desert full of solar pannels only reflecks heat which catches birds on fire. Cheapest energy creates growth which can finance free energy. Profit can build modern, substanable Cities while pumping water from under cities cause those cities to sink below ocean levels. Pole shift causes plate movement, causes waves to destroy nuclear power plants, volcanos to burn states like Washington, & one third of our fresh water on Earth to become deadly. The Climate Elite are only interested in killing the majority of us. NWO wants to save 500 million of us to move their families to a younger planet. They use the CCP to take blame with their plan to use our intellectual properties of viruses & Vaccines to kill all but Chinese people. NWO uses Climate to distract from their deepstate of 200,000 enemies within to bankrupt all but themselves as to avoid going to Gitmo. Many of their midlevel soldiers have gone into hiding while they transfer their stolen wealth as 234,000 indictments are being unsealed in order with up to 99 names on each. James Hansen knows the historical data and has chosen to ignore it or manipulate it. The heatwaves and droughts of the past were much more severe. Check the past!! The Roman and medieval warm periods were much warmer. The Danes settled a new land, farmed it for a few hundred years and called it Greenland, but had to leave because it became too cold. The English grew grapes to rival French wines. It’s not warm enough now.

Like - hey why don't we put the solar panels on commercial rooftops and parking lots so we don't ruin even more wild spaces in an effort to be green. Like - we all need to reduce consumption and reduce transportation as this is more impactful than improving transportation. Find something positive to say instead of being obstructionists to any improvements at all.

Then the 15 Billion will use the same amount of energy and we'll be back to where we are now, but with more people. Or we could just let nature takes its course. When its too hot for us to live in these numbers then the population will go down, when we run out of fossil fuels the population will go down. My solution is to be sensible. Drive your car (one of life's luxuries) but just don't leave it running for hours to keep the air conditioning working until you come back to it. Don't dump acid in rivers and kill all the fish. Yes, the entire Earth Climatology will change and get hotter and at night very cold but it will be because of a (Geomagnetic Pole Excursion) that happens every 12,000 Years. Approximately 10 or so decades from now or even sooner the Magnetospheres will have dropped 25% causing more Solar Radiation disrupting animals and the human brains thought processes. At this time however the Magnetosphere has droped slightly more than 9%. One good (CME : Corona Mass Ejection) at 15% to 25% Magetosphereic Depletion it can plunge the entire planet into being powerless in otherwords (No More Electricity) and create a death toll unimaginable from Solar Radiation and Plausible Interstellar at night. The Human Race Is Powerless To Stop The Climatic Changes The Will Happen. It would be a bit wrong to use cell phone charging as an example of something that is noticeably involved in global warming. If the battery has a capacity of 3 amps, your charger is at 2 amps and 5 volts, and you charge your cell phone once per night, the power you theoretically use per night to charge will be: 2x5 = 10 watts x 1.5 hour (battery was at 3 amps 3/2 = 1.5) = 15 watts (during 1,5 hour per night). 15x365 (days per year) = 5 475 watts, about 5.5 kilowatts per year. If you pay e.g. £ 0,35 per kilowatt, it will cost you 0.35x5.5 = 1 pund and 93 pence (less then £ 2!) for a full year to charge your mobile. If you want to save on electricity, then it is first and foremost showering, air conditioning and heating of houses you have to reduce. Then comes laundry (large families with daily use of washing machine) etc. Today's light bulbs also use relatively little power.
