I sometimes think, that some Americans might think, that British accents just haven't developped into adult-American-accents yet. Like when I spoke to a lady from Florida and she thought that my country was called the Neanderthlands (instead of Netherlands) and that I was the (so-far-) endproduct of an evolved Neanderthal. As if we were from a lower stage of evolution. I can understand the association with grunting..youknow, with all the *g* -noises we make. Are muricans only now finding out that accents are not hereditary.. and that 90% of people do not have the same accent as their parents.. You get your accent from your peers, murican accents don’t vary much. There’s like 5 accents in the US. So you just hear similar accents your whole life. But most people travel, they don’t grow up in the same small town that their parents did. They meet people from all over the world and develop different accents. But muricans generally can’t afford to leave the US, not great quality of life or access to education that allows for that in the US

I’m pretty sure the European guy who fell off the waterfall was the same guy who got crushed for being greedy. American accent = badass hero character who is the best human soul since Jesus English accent = smart suave character that the female character is currently dating but really loves the American character who is also her ex, English guy always betrays the American because English people are evil Irish, ozzy or black American character = comic relief Russian, Arab or German = the villains, arab is usually not the main villain because that would be racist, the real villain is either English German or Russian because it’s okay to villainise white people Moral of the story is, American accent means they are a righteous amazing human being with a pure soul and everyone else is tainted. If you want the character to be ‘quirky’ and ‘foreign’, but not too foreign, you make him Canadian and give him a US accent anyway.

Sequel. The son is now a young man, chasing adventure because he thought the life his parents chose was boring. The government contacts him for a similar job, hoping he can be like his father. He meets that lady that stared at them in the market, which his father wrote about in his journal we never heard about but definitely existed. She hasn't aged a day, and it turns out she can tell the future and is "cursed" with immortality as a priestess of the sacred temple of Lejabi. She's also a descendant of that tribe that shot them with blow darts. She travels with the son, and they get to the temple of Lejabi. The government sent him to get a sacred mask from the temple. The priestess says that if it's destroyed, she'll die. During the climactic final battle with the Shaman who survived because they never found the body, the son looks the priestess in the eyes, and destroys the mask, but actually it just ends her immortality. The son has a touching conversation with his father about how family and peace is more important than adventure, and the son marries the priestess and they have a daughter... but they kept a fragment of the mask.
