When things go wrong with seedlings 😞(Brassicas disaster!)

Ugh I'm so sorry about your seedlings but we ALL do it at one time or another. Luckily those ones you purchased look amazing. I'm surpised you found them that big and gorgeous. There is always a work around. Last year I stared my brassicas too early this year I started them too late LOL maybe next year Ill get it right. I bought some plastic to put over my hoop house just like yours but my plants are still so tiny. I think its great you show your failures along with all you successes, it helps keep it real and lets others know it ok to lose sometimes:)

I was actually really surprised too but this nursery decided to get some early… literally the place brought some in 2 days after mine died… it’s always a gamble with these seedlings!

Great job! I planted mine out recently. The other night, it got down to 34. I only had insect netting on them. They survived, though. There was no frost. After I thought about it, I realized I didn't even remember to harden them off! My seedlings usually get sunburned while being hardened off. I'm sorry you lost your seedlings.❤

I did winter sowings as back ups for mine and they are actually doing really well. They are slow growing compared to the ones indoors. But they will likely be stronger healthier plants.

Allegedly our last frost date is March 23. 😂 Only a rookie plants anything in Georgia in March. Typically I go with April 15 and direct sow the first week of April. All my seedlings were up and pretty by the 15th. Then we had a hard freeze on April 23rd! So yeah, I feel your pain. It’s the worst. I mean I had more seeds so it was fine but it still hurts.

Roxana, so sorry about the loss of seedlings, but I’m so glad you found some ready to go nearby! In the past, I’ve accidentally given some of my seedlings sunburn or wind burn from not hardening off gradually enough. Going through the same thing, had to start all over with my beets and cauliflower, but thankfully my broccoli is still holding on for dear life. But I will keep pushing!

I did accidentally leave a pot out last night. I think those brassicas, cold tolerant things will come back.

I keep the temperature in my house comfortable so my seedling are use to a cool environment. Lol I also keep a fan on them to strengthen them.I did test some tomatoes and cucumbers seedlings but i put plastic domes on them and they are fine .I purchased those domes from dollar tree.Yet im in north Florida so its a LITTLE different here.

O-o, that’s a bummer. You need to make another hoop house. This weather is trickling everyone. I have spinach growing under a clear tote in WI. We had no warning about frost/freeze last 5/25 and it wiped out most everything. We had 90s so why not plant-right? Amazing enough it didn’t touch the extras in the flats probably because it was warmer in front of GH. I almost threw the towel in. It’s a bit early for us to plant yet, just thought I’d experiment under tote. It’s a bit of work to cover everything. Been mulling over when to start tomatoes and believe I will stick with 6/1 when planting out and start seeds 4/1 or a bit later as they get big in a hurry. I’m trying 2 mini tomatoes and one isn’t so mini right now. Glad to see you weren’t in the tornadoes that went through.

I’ve had similar things happen but if the very center is still strong and green (I saw some that were!) they should recover 😊 mine have! It’s nice that you can buy starts locally at least…I can’t find anything 😢

Gatewoods opened Wednesday and they have brassicas, I also got my strawberry roots from them and some potting mix, I think they should be fine there.

I have been watching your videos sense before last year or so ... okay I'm old I can't remember how long ...any way this year I started my seeds using your suggestion of the Burpees potting soil ... so my question is when do you start with the fertilizer ? and how much and often ... or did I happen to miss that video ... I started my Geraniums I think it was the same week that you did and last week they where looking a little piceid -- off color -- so I gave them a little fertilizer I wondered if I should have started it sooner ... because mine don't look as good as yours ... Sorry about your plants ... you know .. we get busy at times and forget things ... !!1

Hey! I don’t do fertilizer as much indoors, since I use potting mix it already has some…. Probably by the time my plants go outside they get 1 or 2 doses max of fertilizer.

I can’t say I forgot my seedlings I’m too much of a helicopter mom which it not great i tend to over water and kill plants we all make mistakes good think is to learn from them and start again
