I just added a new deep box last week, had 7 out of 10 frames filled out..but I didn't know to pull up a frame of brood when I added it. They seemed to be doing very well.. I added the apiva mite strips also when I added the new box ..I will need to go back in and check to see if they actually moved up or if I need to bring up a couple frames. Hi Kamon and camera girl. It takes two to make great videos like you do. I've just started beekeeping after a 20 year break, only had the nuc 8 weeks and they are in their permanent home now. Weather here in Manchester UK has been rain and wind almost every day. Still they are flying and getting stronger. I wanted to know your view on using Spirulina supplementing bee feeders. I've looked at the limited research, it looks impressive. Any thoughts? Keep up the great work you are an inspiration to us less experienced keepers. Mark from UK.

Hi Kamon. As always great stuff. Good job you guys!!! I was thinking about those feeder pails you have. Where can a guy pick those up at and the plugs for the hive lid? I lost several hives last fall after treating with oxallic using the fogger method. So I am in bee production mode this year and not too worried about honey. Looking forward to your mite treatment series. I also have apimaye hives, wooden boxes, and polystyrene. I’ve had incredible results with the apimaye hives. Polystyrene is still under review but doing well so far. I’m in Idaho 30 minutes from Boise and they are still in expansion mode here.

Just take your hive tool and flatten that fat frame to where it should be. Make sure there’s no queen or open brood below it. The bees will just move that honey and stop building the comb. It works if the honey is open but best if it’s capped.

Hey Kamon, I've just added a new super to a double deep swarm catch hive. They drew out both deeps (second one put on a few weeks after the catch) very nicely - gotta love how swarms draw out wax! All were filled with Premier double waxed foundation and I even painted on some extra wax. There's a queen excluder under the super. It's been 6 days and they haven't started drawing the super frames out - not even a little. Is there anything I can do to get them drawing the super frames out? Or is it really up to the bee's timeframe and needs? Thanks.

Hiya. New beekeeper here. Since you are doing alcohol washes ... I was wondering if you can make a video on the difference between sugar rolling... which is what the Penn State beekeeping 101 course I took promoted vs alcohol washing. I have seen other videos out there but I had issues with both of them. The first one used 2 different sets of bees. Which to me negates the test. The other one used the same set of bees, but was very gentle on the sugar rolled bees, whereas in the video's of the bee keeping course I took they were just as aggressive in shaking the bees in the sugar roll as he was when he put them in the alcohol wash. It would just make it easier for me. Also I got my hive about 4 weeks ago in my apimaye... they are almost at 6 frames... but I'm up here in Maryland. I found you by searching for apimaye on KZbin... it's been great watching your video's.

I’d stay away personally from this form of bee keeping. Treating bees for varroa is a waste of money and time. Do not purchase bees from any commercial areas. Catch local swarms, if they die they die. My family has been keeping bees for 100 years and we have no issues with varroa. Our hives do have varroa but we do not lose hives to it. This whole new age idea of bee keeping is a money scam.

In the north they would be a pain to winterize. When it is cold it is easier for the bees to move up than jump across frames when it's negative 20F. They are expensive take a lot of room and expensive and the bees don't produce as much honey in them some say.

After watching your video, I reworked my two hives and moved a brood frame from the lower box to the upper box to get some action upstairs besides a few drones hanging out. Worked great, the bees in both hives are drawing out comb around not only the new, empty one I put in the lower box to replace the brood frame, but they have drawn comb on both new foundation frames on either side of the brood frame in the upper box. I posted a video about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5SZqn5-qbt7rK8 . Great suggestion. I have learned quite a bit from your channel, and being in North Carolina puts us in a similar environment, at least weather-wise.

I'm a first year beekeeper and watch you put frames back in the box and move them together. I think I heard the sound of a bee crush, but not sure. Seems like I just can't keep from crushing bees either setting the frames in the box or moving them together. Is this just unavoidable?
@russellkoopman3004
@russellkoopman3004 3 жыл бұрын
It is a double edge sword. If you are real careful you can avoid a lot of crushing bees but then it takes longer and the bees get upset and more pile out of the box. There are some KZbinrs who have some tricks to minimize it. Scott Hendricks is one that is careful.

There has been some talk on one of the FB groups that im in regarding killing queens as the nectar flow starts. The idea is that the bees don't need the nectar to raise brood and will make a larger honey crop. By the time the flow is dwindling down, the virgin queens will have mated and start building back up.
