I will apply for a couple cards at a time, but have found, for me, waiting almost a year between rounds works the best. Gives them time to see I’m actually using the card(s) and I can decide what is really working for me.

@Jungernaut5 жыл бұрын
There is no big concern. Average age of accounts is outside your control. Time is really the factor that affects this. My average age of accounts is still in the red on other credit reports. Bringing this up is what jumps people from high 700 to the 850 club. Don’t worry about it too much though. It’s irrelevant when looking to go from a poor to good score

It should be 3 to 4 months per card, on average, with the current rules. That way you can recycle bonuses. The churn cycles are 4 years. Unless you have crazy high cash flow, and don't care about your credit, it's a better idea to pace applications. People that are impatient shouldn't play the credit card game. It's a marathon not a sprint.

@greenbun5 жыл бұрын
D If it’s your first or second card, it wouldn’t be uncommon. The more cards/credit lines you get, the less affect each new hard pull will have on your score. When Brian applies for a new card, he probably only sees a 2-5 point drop now because he has such a solid base of cards and it will jump back up in a month anyways. The more accounts you have = the less affect new inquires will have on your score.

I received three hard pulls in the last year. New Years Day - 1st card February - 2nd card And an auto loan just last week. However I got 4 new cards during this time. AmEx pulled for the first card on New Years, then in March didn't pull for my Blue or Gold cards I applied for (and got). February was for a Chase Card. For 12 years I ran a single card, before learning how the credit scoring actually works. And now I went from low 700's (690-710) to low 800's (790-810). With the three hard pulls on my account. Totally worth it!

Hey I upgraded to platinum and now they are saying that i wont get the welcome offer of 60k points what should i do.
@sauteedgarlic32375 жыл бұрын
When you upgrade to a better card you will not receive the sign up bonus. That is because you're simply upgrading and not signing up for a card. Amex also has a lifetime rule where you can only receive the sign up bonus once to prevent credit card churning. Now because you havent received the sign up bonus yet you might be able to cancel your current amex gold card and reopen it. (Asumimg the sign up bonus still applies, call Amex to make sure). It might make sense to do that since the sign up bonus is pretty beefy. You could just apply for the Amex Platinum card and get that sign up bonus as well. But understand there will be a 550 annul fee for that card and you will have to spend 5000 dollars in the first 3 months in order to get the 60k points. When opening the Amex Gold card you have to spend 4000 dollars to get the 50k points. In my opinion I wouldn't downgrade the gold to a green just cause of the 150 dollar annual fee for it.

@brotherkenwin71595 жыл бұрын
Chase is going to look at your history with them you're probably not going to receive that car unless you have long history with Chase if you don't have a minimum of $5, if you have another Chase card you you can combine both of the limit on one cardif you have another Chase card you you can combine both of the limits on one card I do this now on my freedom unlimited I have $28,000 on one card
@HockeyJock5 жыл бұрын
Chase’s concern is you haven’t had a limit this big yet. The $5K for CSP is not a Chase requirement, but rather a Visa requirement. Same with the $10K for CSR, it’s a higher tier of ‘VISA’ benefits. I’d probably try to get Capital One to give you a credit limit increase to $5000, then wait 3 months and re-apply. You need to show Chase you can responsibly handle a $5000 limit and the easiest way is to work with the lending relationship you already have. If Cap One won’t do it, get a secured card and keep adding money to it and take the “manual” route.

What is the limit on hard inquiries to have a good credit score? And what is the best time of the year to apply and get accepted?
@alexaceves18363 жыл бұрын
there’s no real “limit” inquiries/hard pulls aren’t that big of a deal UNLESS you apply for credit too often (every 1 month for example) and that can bring down your score a little bit it can also decrease your chances of getting accepted for the next line of credit. so there’s no real time of the year where they accept more, it’s just an algorithm whether you mean the requirements or not that determines if you get accept

Cristian a new account would cut your age in about half since you only have 1 card.... but for the long haul you’ll have to do that regardless to get a firm credit foundation to build on. I would look into a card with no annual fee that has decent/good perks so you can keep it for years and build with it.

Hey Brian, thanks for the video. I've been in this game a little over a year and have about a dozen cards at this point. I mostly follow your practice in terms of spacing of applications. I now seem to have hit a brick wall, in that all the cards I am now after have either been denied or it's clear I can't get, because of the issuers' concerns about the number of cards I've opened in the past year or my existing credit limit total. I can't get any BOA or Wells Fargo cards, and Barclay appears to have a 6/24 rule. I've already got all the AMEX cards I want, and most of the Chase cards I want, and Citi apparently won't give welcome bonuses for 24 months if you've recently acquired another Thank You point card. I suppose it won't kill me to take a pause, but it's a bit frustrating. I have a TransUnion score of 829 and keep my pending balances low.

only a year and about a dozen cards?? bruh you need to take the foot off the pedal, that's more than enough cards. If you truly have a score of 829 then you literally are fine, 850 is the max...

I applied for the chase sapphire 2 weeks ago after yrs of not applying for cards and fixing my credit and I got it! my credit score are in the 700s now...I also have an Amex since 2016 that I’m finishing paying and they increased my credit limit a few months ago.... Now I’m trying to hit that shapphire welcome bonus... then I might apply for Amex gold card in dec.. let’s see.. perfect for Christmas...the only thing is that I have a lot of student loans....

Great video. What if I had a charge off with a credit card company about 10 years ago is it safe to try to apply for a card with that company say for instance Chase?

Yes u can

Chase, maybe. But not Citibank. They are known to blacklist you even decades after a personal bankruptcy for very small amounts of debt.

Applied for the Apple Card , Amex gold and the CSR all within the same month. I’ll enjoy my cards and re apply for the Amex platinum and CIC next year next around the same time. Then God willing, dumb down my CIC after the points are earned. I’m new to this credit card game and I’ve had the same cc with a 13k limit for YEARS. So these companies have been on my heels to join them for some time now.

If it’s within the same issuer I wait 3 months if it isn’t I actually wait longer 5-6 months so I can stay on the good side lol I currently have no chase cards and looking to start and am under 5/24 and should I go for the freedom or freedom unlimited?

So I just started getting interested in maximizing credit card bonuses. I have excellent credit and only a couple of cards I got years ago. Last week i applied for and got approved for the chase sapphire preferred, I want to get the freedom unlimited as well for the 1.5x back on all purchases. How long do you think I should wait to apply for it? I only applied for the CSP and got accepted and it would be my only other card inquiry for a few months until I cave and get the chase freedom to do the trifecta. But I have alot of expenses coming up quickly I would like to use the unlimited on as well. I'll be able to get the sign up bonuses fine.
